I have had the XZ1 compact for almost a year now and I don't think I've been missing something.
If anything my experience can be described as better than most because what was "flagship specs" (and is still respectable to be honest) is driving only a 720p screen, so a quarter of the pixels of other models with the same SoC.

I really wanted one like that to have when I go out to run, but it should be thinner, more near to a card, but it looks great

How do you type on this? Is it voice-input only?

Network consumes as much as display or CPU in modern phones, it will be dead in a couple of hours of actual usage.

Considering what the phone is yeah that's expensive. It's compact with good specs, but they should set the price down a lot. I have a phone with a 5.7" screen, 3 gigabytes of RAM, 16 gigabytes of storage and it has lasted me since Christmas time of 2015. It was under $150 and I paid the full price at the store.
