>Create a parts list pcpartpicker.com/ >Learn how to build a PC Search youtube for a guide for your socket
Want help? >State the budget & CURRENCY for your build >List your uses; eg Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose and graphics card pairing. >Don't use Speccy. Use HWinfo, SIV, etc. >For Win7 in Ryzen, refer to pastebin.com/TUZvnmy1
CPU >i3 8100 - Bare minimum gaming >R5 2400G/R5 2600/x- Consider IF on sale >i5 8400 - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs >Wait for i7 9900k and 9700k - Surely the best for gaming at any resolution >i7 8700k - Currently best high-end gaming at any resolution/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform >Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT
RAM >8GB - Enough for most gaming use >16GB - Standard for heavy use >32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal
Graphics cards >RTX 2000 cards are top of the line GPU atm but wait untill the price comes down a little >Avoid cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others which have small heatsinks and low quality fans >Avoid Vega they are poor values and inferior to their Pascal counterpart in every way 1080p >1060 6GB standard 1080p 60fps+ options >1050 3Gb or RX560 4Gb for lower settings and/or older games >GTX 1070Ti/1080 if seeking higher FPS /w a high hz monitor 1440p >GTX 1070Ti/1080 >GTX 1080Ti if seeking higher FPS /w a high hz monitor 4K >Upscale from 1620-1800p. Gtx 1080ti/2080. Maybe 2080Ti, but awful value.
Storage >Backup before using StoreMi >Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD >2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB >M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard >NVMe are not for gaming; See "More"
Display >Consider 75hz minimum; 60hz are mostly old models. >Always consider G-Sync with nVidia cards >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
>had a good monitor for years >it breaks >replace it with a TV-monitor hybrid >calibrate the display for DVI and for SCART easily enough >no matter what I do, HDMI never, ever looks right on it Fuck televisions, fuck calibration, I just want to go back to having a monitor that displays shit as it should. Why are televisions like this?
It means the max output on the 12v rail is about 180W.
It's a PSU, obviously.
Matthew Rodriguez
i certainly hope you arent thinking of buying this one, there is an easier way to bomb your own house you know, probably cheaper too
Caleb Cruz
the 12v rail is what connects to the motherboard, right?
Connor Russell
2080 ti or wait for 7nm architecture?
Xavier Young
its part of a prebuilt, whats wrong with it?
Julian Fisher
I'm sorry but this is true. Six cores six threads WITH A LOCKED MULTIPLIER in 2018 is an absolute joke.
Colton Perez
>the chad intel vs the virgin amd
Cameron Rodriguez
Within the context of the prebuild most likely nothing but upgrading might choke it, doesnt exactly come with much overhead most things in the pc use the 12V rail, GPU, CPU etc etc so it has to be good on Watts and amps
Leo Anderson
3.3v is rarely used outside the motherboard and add-in cards, but 5v and 12v is everywhere.
Be warned that 180W on 12v is too little headroom for anything besides a prebuilt. Do not upgrade that machine, particularly adding a graphics card, without replacing that PSU first. Lord knows if that shit even has overcurrent protection.
it should but i'd still becareful, watch for obvious signs and dont overclock
Robert Jenkins
besides the pc shutting down what would an obvious sign be?
Samuel Phillips
actually scratch that last part, make sure the 1050ti is without an external connector just to be sure, so it can only draw the 75W from the pci-e without danger of a bang
Luis Davis
burning smell, weird noises from the psu, pc crashes in more demanding tasks.
Ethan Jackson
An unusual smell.
Jack Reyes
Cutting it extremely close. What's most likely to happen is it works fine for 6 months and then one day you get a loud pop, your PC shuts down, and the magic smoke comes out. If you're lucky you won't have a dead motherboard, graphics card, etc.
>make sure the 1050ti is without an external connector just to be sure, so it can only draw the 75W from the pci-e without danger of a bang That's a good way to kill that shitty motherboard. Can the card even run without the PCIe power connected?
Joseph Brooks
depends on who makes it, low profile and non oc cards usually come without external power connectors but ULTRA EXTRA GAMING OC usually pack a single 6 pin
Jack Wright
On a psu calculator I got around 263w for that build with a 1050ti and without adding anything extra like fans/other peripherals. Kinda pushing it for a cheapo 300w power supply since they usually struggle to even reach their rated wattage.
Samuel Davis
i was looking at rx580 and r7 2700x, mostly for gaming, i dont really have preferences for any brand, just want the best performance per $
Noah Martin
Stop recommending intel cpu's, you fucking kikes. Literally no reason to buy Intel in 2018.
Samuel Phillips
for the gpu, all and all it usually comes to the cooling, so just look at whats cheap but still has a beefy cooler. Other than that its mostly about faggots shilling on their favorite brand and that some manufacturer's warranty is less troublesome than others
Justin Nelson
Thanks, should i wait for ram/gpu prices to go down? will it even happen?
Grayson Nguyen
A penny for your thoughts, lads
I have a 6 or 7 year old laptop and a 10 year old PC. I need to upgrade both as they are heavily underpowered for my workload (some stuff is outright unsupported lmao). I can only afford to upgrade one at a time. Which do you guys reckon I should upgrade first?
- over time both will get cheaper, so I wonder if laptops get cheaper faster than separate pc parts.
- the laptop upgrade would be more expensive.
- but the laptop would provide me portability, so I could use it at work, uni, etc.
- but at the same time, I don't reeeeally have the need for a laptop most of the time, it would be more of a hypothetical benefit (at the moment at least; possible change of circumstances very quickly, so a bit of a risk to wager that I don't need portability).
- 1,2k pc vs. 1,5k - 2k laptop
thoughts?
Justin Jackson
depends if you'd want to wait, cant speculate but in my opinion it will drop once DDR5 releases and everyone moves up, and GPUs might take a while too, if you arent scared of buying second hand i'd say go for it, its a jewish myth that miner gpus are totally fucked, they are usually undervolted and underclocked because aint nobody got money to water cool like 20 gpus
Aiden Mitchell
Spend less on cpu and more on gpu, retard
Kevin Peterson
Samsung is not going to stop price fixing memory just because they can no
Joseph Russell
Desktop, anything that needs power can be done on desktop and the rest you can do on the laptop
>Planning to drop a £3-4k on a build Will be a felony if it's not a dual Xeon build desu
Sebastian Ward
thanks a lot user
then what should be my best bet? can i use a r5 2600 instead and still get good performance?
Joseph Williams
nope. there's never a "good" time to build a computer. as soon as a part hits the shelves it's obsolete and no one really knows where prices will go. it's better to act now and have a nice system instead of waiting for whatever "might" happen. I'd like to remind you that the US tariffs against Chinese products begin January, making it hard to predict pricing overall. Yes, I know you're probably in the UK but the tariffs might affect pricing all over the world. It could be negative, where things get really expensive, or positive where things get cheap. Not sure, user.
Brayden King
I'm leaning the same way. My current desktop is a lot more out of date and I prefer working on it than on the laptop.
Tbf, as I'm writing this, I just realised that I didn't even think about upgrading my laptop. I can probabably just get a decent ssd, some extra ram and it would be enough for my needs without the need of a better cpu. I'll have to look into it.
Thanks, lad.
Juan White
I'm putting together a Ryzen build for 3d modeling/gaming. I know everyone says you should get CL14 ram for Ryzen but how much of a difference does it actually make?
Mother supports up to 2666mhz ram. Get one of these
Cooper Perez
Welcome to the ryzen experience
Wyatt Richardson
non RGB ram costs considerably less as far as performance goes it seems to be very minimal and certainly not worth paying 50% extra for as long as you have reasonably good ram (3000/15 or 3200/16)
David Hall
Doesn’t make much of a difference.
Benjamin Bennett
How is 2133 mhz ram for a ryzen CPU?
Henry Jones
Imagine you pour a canister of piss into a bucket of shit
Jack Bennett
A bit too slow, might as well use intel at that point if speed isn’t your thing.
Angel Wright
That's true but not by much. Non rgb cl14 3200 is still $120 more.
Landon Hernandez
My GPU died, and i want to upgrade my ancient system. I can purchase a used 4770k/MB/16GB ddr3 ram/GTX 1070 or new 2600x/MB/16GB ddr4 ram and a used r9 290 for the same price. I mostly use my computer for productivity, and will probably buy a RTX 2080 for 4k gaming if the price drops. What do you think will be the best purchase? Is there a big difference between a 4770k/ddr3 and 2600x/ddr4?
wtf. i paid 216 ukbux for my cl14 3200 16gb. how fucking much is the other ram to be 120 american dollars more?
Ryan Rogers
This is for a 32gb kit. It's $400 for the cheapest cl14 3200 32gb kit.
Easton Evans
Samsung EVO 860 and Crucial MX500 are /pcbg/ approved 3D NAND SSDs.
Aiden Sanchez
Intel's VP is a Pajeet, not even American
Intel also has Raja
Josiah Nguyen
There's always something better coming out
The worst time to build is actually early next year because you'll cuck yourself for not waiting for what AMD will pop out in April/May
Then after AMD shits out a new CPU you'll also wait again for Intel's CPU to show up 6 months later
It's the same on the GPU side even, if you wait for next year you'll be suckered in into waiting for 7nm gimmicky AMD GPUs and then Nvidia will crap out a new GPU late 2019/early 2020
Xavier Cook
What's a good motherboard for an i5 6400 and 2133 mhz of ram? I don't need any fancy stuff like built in wifi
Camden Howard
>Wireless Cringe in all fields, i don't have to explain why its inferior, just learn to hide wires and do cable management pcpartpicker.com/list/YFcgpG
Leo Baker
Dammit is meant for
Wyatt Hernandez
>Not samsung shit
Sebastian Murphy
>What's a good motherboard for an i5 6400 corelet lol
5 stars over more than 4700 customer reviews isn't enough for you?
Oliver Robinson
It's overpriced and a technology behind. Can find a 500GB EVO 860 in my country at 100€, probably around 85 British ruppies.
Dylan Parker
Lmao, point of build was to reduce cables and still game and you just added more and switched to Ryzen
Just stop. Wireless is getting unnoticable. I’m not going to the grand esports final I’m fragging children
Brandon King
gotta check with with you neckbeards first
Adam Young
Any of you fags really own a threadripper? Two questions in case yes:
1) Is it really that hard to install Win7? Some people state no X399 chipset drivers and other crap 2) I read AMD is going to enable some local mode feature or whatever that'll going to boost Threadrippers by 48% WTF. Are you ready for that and is it even for real? 3 (bonus) how it feels? Is it enough for watching porne in 1080p and freeze-free imageboard shitposting
Carson Howard
buying used motherboards a good idea?
Cooper James
Should I get the GTX 1080ti regular or OC edition? Help please
