He's not wrong, but I'm a brainlet so I chose vidya.
This.
Also, it's not like my friends even want to program.
Someone else makes better worlds than me.
I considered making my own command and conquer. And when I was working on it I realized my art is terrible. And I'm wasting time doing something that someone else can do way better than me.
But what if I mod the game?
Retard.
this
They said he could create anything, so he created ugly, dysfunctional, botnet garbage.
Also at least some games have waifus. Gmail's design language is hideous and it's literally less functional than yahoo mail
>literally less functional than yahoo mail
For Russian hackers perhaps.
When programming you have a boss telling you what to do, when gaming you are your own boss.
>With books you are trapped inside someone else's world. If writing yourself, you can do anything you want, right? It's an open canvas, there's no limit. Reading books seemed like a pointless waste of time compared to writing them yourself.
retarded logic if you ask me
also MOOODS
it's not Jow Forums related, it's a statement on vidya, which belongs on /v/
creating > consuming
Makes sense desu
That's true though. Thats why you pay the writers to read their book.
>programming is more fun than playing games
t. omega autist
honestly I want a programmable vr reality
>But what if I mod the game?
You're in someone's world (not necessarily the game's creator)
>But but what if I created the mod
Then you're programming.
He’s right. Everyone who plays video games past the age of 18 should be killed off.
No, you can't do "anything you want". Even though thats true in theory, you are limited by time and the requirements to deliver content that is well received.
Development of software is also not simple. Very few people are capable of designing and implementing unique systems.
>not designing hardware instead
Brainlets.
Okay, in you go.
I don’t play video games because I’m not an useless manchild who could be killed off without any loss to the society.
>I’m not an useless manchild who could be killed off without any loss to the society.
You posting on Jow Forums says otherwise.
Keep telling yourself that buddy
Sure bud
>an useless
Why does this use of grammar make me so uncomfortable?
It follows the rule of, “an before a vowel,” but violates it in speech at the same time. It made me shift in my chair and lean in toward the screen just to re-read the sentence a few times.
user, forget abandoning vidya, work on your grammar before you consider yourself to be some sort of superior being.
He's not wrong but I'm still going to keep playing videogames.
>It follows the rule of, “an before a vowel,”
It doesn't because "useless" does not begin with a vowel.
But youre on Jow Forums?

Fuck programming.
I program in my job for 4-6 hours and have 0-4 hours of meeting, after that i learn new shit. On weekends i have university.
Programming is ruining my fucking life, before job i was reading historical, classical, ancient history books, learning Latin, painting, sometimes running, having long walks, cooking.
Now i just fucking eat whatever the fuck everybody have for lunch (mostly fat, salty meaty shit), go write useless crud Enterprise shit or hyped meme startup, work ether in meme loft or a fucking concrete farm. Then go for tons of useless mettings, go home to learn something so i can be productive, then pass out of flustration taking tranquillizers with tons of alcohol watching anime and manga that have complexity of 14 year old. Sometimes play dumbest game or watch the movie/tv show, on the verge of fucking collapsing. I had gained weight, have bad blood pressure, trouble with eyesight from being 12hours in pc, i can't sleep.
Before that i lived with my parents, read a lot, worked out, contemplated, meditated, cooked, i was poor but happy. Since 3 years of working as programming everything is getting except salary, productivity shitter, I was in startups, freelancing, corporation, even thing out moving out from my country. I have savings, but i don't think that sabatical will have me. I hate fucking programming as a job
Who would have guessed that a boring corporate job turned out to be a boring corporate job
hes not wrong but varg said video games are a good tool for teaching
My favorite video game is the C compiler.
If you want your program to have waifus just add a Pixiv scraper. Just admit you play video games because you're either a brainlet or a cuck.
He hasn't played the witcher. Has that pleb ever lived?
Any platform has defined boundaries.
>with video games you're just trapped inside someone else's world
>with programming you're just trapped inside someone else's world that's nothing but finances and business shit that you couldn't care less about
truly woke
Still sounds like escapism to me. Sounds like he needs to be brought back to reality.
pixivutil2 ftw
I'd be willing to program 24/7 if I had programming buddies.
I find friends in video games. :^)
I only ever feel comfortable contributing... somehow when i'm doing something from scratch i get total writers block and a strange sense of anxiety and anticipation that it'll suck anyway.
So that's why i don't program in my spare time. I have the same problem with writing fiction.
Lose some weight and go outside and meet people you fat nerd. Pathetic.

fuck coding.
you're frustrated most of the time.
does not weigh up to the short delight of it finally working.
If you can't program, you are an NPC.
I can though (I’m not that other guy btw)
Meh, 99% of modern programming is doing literally what the libraries allow you to do.
So it's pretty damn limited and you can't do whatever you want to do.
Program video games to trap others inside your world and consume their souls, using them to fuel your mirthful ascension to godhood.
but what about the fact that gamers play a game better than its creator?
Gmail is a pretty boring world
>he thinks he's in control of his life, in the drivers seat, so to speak
So, does this mean life is a pointless waste of time, if i'm not God?
yes
>people ITT unironically defending interactions with pre-programmed stimuli as a worthwhile pastime
How can you not become self-aware 5 minutes into any video game and feel like it's a massive waste of time with no benefits? And unlike other media, video games have very little if any artistic merit, and are produced solely for consumption.
>but it's fun!
Escapism is not a merit.
>it's a waste of time to read books because it's not your stories
>it's a waste of time to watch movies because it's not your stories
>But with writing, you can do anything you want to the world, right?
>But with drawing, you can do anything you want to the world, right?

The original article is a goldmine, dude is hardcore narcissist and he does not seem to realize it.

This dude is full of shit, don't listen to him.

So is coding.
You rarely actually "create" something.
You are still trapped in a world of libraries written by other people and your job is to glue them together to fullfill the job the client wants done.
And you have to work around the undocumented behavior and the bugs in the other people's libraries.
What a joy.
Literally the only consumption past-time that requires interaction and that retard doesn't acknowledge it.
No wonder gmail and chrome are wasting GUI space with emptyness nowadays, it seems to be a realistic reflection of Alphabets devs brains.
It's a PASTIME for a reason
install gentoo and stop using unity3d
Life is a waste of time since you're gonna die anyway
>But what if I mod the game?
you have 0 idea what vast ocean you are trying to swim. mods don't really change the games all that much
>reading isn't interactive
>striving to understand art in mediums like film isn't interactive
Look at the state of /v/ at any given time - interactive or not, there's no semblance of anything outside of gross consumption.
>How can you not become self-aware 5 minutes into any video game and feel like it's a massive waste of time with no benefits?
>having fun has no benefit
Some of us don't live to work.
>And unlike other media, video games have very little if any artistic merit, and are produced solely for consumption.
>produced solely for consumption.
keked, you don't watch movies/series, do you?
Same for music...
>Escapism is not a merit.
If you can't understand the difference between playing 2 and 12 hours a day then we can't do anything for you.
Like anything in life, the poison is in the excess.
You can do both. Programming my own games is fun but it gets tiring to work all the time. Playing other people's games is more relaxing.
Consider telling that generation minecraft. You'd be surprise.
Also:
>What are multiplayer vidyas?
>Some of us don't live to work.
Yes, but with video games, you're perpetually wallowing. Suppose for a second you could have fun while simultaneously doing something productive or otherwise bettering - why not strive for something more?
>keked, you don't watch movies/series, do you?
I do, just not mainstream Netflix-tier or Hollywood trash. I figure the same people who consume drivel like that also play video games and the demographics are the same. If you step outside the video-game mentality of consumption, you'll find there's more merit to film than just mere entertainment value.
>2 and 12 hours
To engage with a video game is to engage in escapism. Otherwise, you're too conscious in how artificial, manufactured, and inauthentic the stimuli is. People are smart, they can see video games aren't real, but they still choose to engage with them and the process is the same regardless of duration.
I think this was taken out of context. The question that was asked in the interview was how he got into programming. And well to him programming seems a whole lot mor interesting than games. Though true be told he's not wrong, at least for some games. I mean how can anybody stand to play a rerelease of the next assassins creed, though truthfully it doesn't add any challenge anyways so it doesn't matter if it was a good rerelease. Grinding all day is also fucking boring in those shitty mmorpgs.
What's up with all these faggy social media profile pictures? Are they made with a creator of some kind or why do they all look the same? Try being original once in a while
Real life is just being trapped in someone else's world.
That's why every Jow Forumsentlemen loves C
everything is a waste of time. productivity is a meme
My BMI is in optimal range. I have no need to socialize, maybe I'm retarded or something.
I can program, but I play video games too.
I'm not this guy ->
he sounds like a cool guy, a bit full of himself sure but that was a nice interview. quote is out of context.
Real life is just being trapped inside another world's hell
>I think this was taken out of context.
I don't think todays society would repeat such mistakes.
quadruplets
I would like to be able to program a game to my own liking but it's a lot of work and skill and studying to get to that level
What if I make more money from playing video games on Twitch than programmers do programming?
>t. Pajeet
>trapped inside someone else's world
This is funny because it also applies to pretty much any programming language except for Common Lisp, Scheme and Racket.
OpenRA2 is open source, so you can still make your own stuff quite easily
This man dislikes video games, music, and books. Will only spend time to further his own knowledge and experience.
>Implying you have friends
I wish that everyone who’s over 18 and plays video games would be killed off
Neither of those are interactive. At best you are trying to interpret meanings and messages. Vidyagames have actual mechanics to learn and master.
Roastie pls, it's not my problem that playing video games is more entertaining than fucking your vagina.
It begins with a vowel but that "u" sound is pronounced more like a consonant so it should be treated as a consonant. A useless
He's right though. a/an follows the rule of sound, not the rule of writing.
>you can do anything you want
K E K

>with programming you can do anything you want, right?
no that's any of the physical types of engineering
No it doesn't. I'll program your NPC gmail brain to follow suit.
He got this idea from me, I posted it on Jow Forums about 3 years ago
Yes it does, according to every English test in existence referring to the rule in questions with answers following the rule of sound. Program your neckbeard off.
I agree with him. I've always considered video games to be nothing more than a mental vacation for when I'm taking a break from real work and allowing ideas to percolate in my subconscious.
Man, achieving something can be hard. Who who would thought
Just believe in yourself, user.
