It takes tremendous effort and decades of dedication to become an executive, and the result is that the ones who make it are more often than not the most cunning, ruthless, efficient and hard working ones. You could cut CEO salaries by 80% tomorrow, and have a bunch of money to do other shit with, but then you just removed 80% of the incentive for going through all that effort to become an executive and thus most of the competition that breeds the people you want to run your companies. You'll end up with an increasing number of incompetent people who run shit into the ground.
