hello npc

ubuntu... the npc distro

There is no shame in using a distro that just werks

i'll stick with 16.04. the most comfy os right now and unity > gnome

this. ubuntu isn't just cool enough because even my 72yr old father is doing fine with it.

BASED and redpilled

>non-LTS Ubango

Minimal install

Useless endevaour if you ask me, rather install "debotnetted" Windows or "debotnetted" macOS then.

>"By switching to linux I'll uncripple myself! But wait, first let me uncripple my noob-linux" *fiddles*

Yeah, nah.

is that unity

Attached: c4b.png (1465x1007, 67K)

how does it feel to still be living in 1999

how does it feel to seek joy by always sprinting after the latest fad

>.conkyrc
what year was this made

unity + 18.04

how'd you get unity on 18.04, i thought they dropped it at 17.~

i have no idea

is it true they finally got rid of the net install / minimal install disc images?

/thread
GNOME never works

min install option is available while installing

Fuck GNOME. I use unity

>2018
>Using anything but LTS

If you want current packages, use something rolling release.
Arch with AUI is so simple to set up even >>YOU could do it.

>implying I use arch

>implying it is intuitive or easy to use

>implying best OS for an old man is an OS that doesn't need to be updated

> literally a checkmark on the graphical, installer, is the default on the netinstaller
No fiddling required m8

What fucking version of unity is that?

That looks pretty nice, shame it's not a LTS version.

>npc
please stay in leddit

sudo apt install ubuntu-unity-desktop

I like it. Imho better than LTS.

pretty good

dumpster fire desktop
no thanks

>GNOME never works
It works on Ubuntu, not so much on any other distro. Cannonical is working some sort of voodoo on that shit.

man I've tried like a million times to get into linux. there's always some fucking error that occurs and when you look it up, there are literally no helpful answers. it's always:
>i'm having issue with thing
>did you try this this and this
>okay yeah I just tried that and it shows me this. any idea what I should do?
>no response

it's like that for every fucking issue. nobody knows a goddamn thing and the few that do are unwilling to help. why do you guys want linux to be a "sekrit klub" so much? how the fuck did you even get into linux? were you raised on this shit from birth? college? because coming at it from a "this seems interesting I want to get involved as a hobby" point of view, it just seems like I might as well be learning voodoo magic lost to time.

Looks nice. Is that all default theme and icons?

Some hardware is just a bitch to work with. My last build had all kinds of weird bullshit going on until I installed a rolling release distro where the kernel got the necessary changes to fix my issues. Laptops are the worst offenders for annoying issues, though. Install something on an older desktop and you'll likely have a good time.

maybe I need to take some more courses so I can know a bit more. not even sure where to start though.

I've been using Linux for roughly ten years. To be honest, I only use a handful of commands on a daily basis. cd, ls, cp, mv, mkdir, rm, less, those are the main ones outside of package manager stuff. It's a lot easier than people would have you believe. Besides, if you install a decent file manager, you rarely even need to bother. Linux is pretty much as easy as Windows these days.

upgrading from 17.04/16.04. That keeps unity

wish it felt like that for me. I can barely manage to install most distros without some error occurring

doing it bois

Or just use Debian.

I just use the oldest LTS still supported and update when it gets to end-of-life.

Distro-hopping is a young man's game.

what game is that ?

I'm on Fedora

Just tried installing it and it wouldn't accept my WiFi password and kept converting everything to lowercase.
Great fucking job.

i think it is Xonotic

>debian 2018
>whoopsie doopsie, looks like your NTP and DNS configuration is borked! time to tell google about it! no opt-out btw!

tried it in a vm but it has repainting issues. good job canonical

so a poor mans unreal tournament

Perfection

i tried it a few months back (im on debian)
it's too fast for me, i couldn't keep up with the pace of the game. maybe its because i'm an old man

>>Ubuntu, consistently in the top 5 distros for the last ten years, a fad

Stop being such an autist. Even Linus says he doesn't like the hobbyist bullshit

ubuntu is based

9/10 bretty good

better than what i was running before

it's still in the repo, it's just not the default desktop anymore, see

For some reason Ubuntu didn't like my boot partition's size on updating, but running an update afterwards seems to have fixed it.

>gnome
no ty

Attached: 2018-10-19--00:08:33.png (932x1028, 483K)

So Ubuntu got their shit together and fixed Unity? That looks actually decent.

they switched back to gnome [/pretend spoiler tag]

>Excited
>Install
>Gnome animations are still shit
>Cry

That's not what I actually meant, but I'm too tired to explain because of the abundance of tiresome posts.

lubuntu is now lxqt by default. pretty neato.

Attached: aenothuanoehu.jpg (1280x800, 119K)

I haven't used gnome since edgy but isn't this easy to change to whatever you want?

I'd rather use Solus

Shitty as in stuttery and laggy
And I want streamlined gnome experience

This is my first Linux PC, how does the upgrade happen, do I just apt dist-upgrade?
This is my only laptop so I can't afford for anything to go wrong

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-10-11 16-51-46.png (1366x768, 211K)

KEVIN GTFO

That's Gnome and not my graphics card? Why on earth do they use 15FPS for the animations? Fuck Gnome and I hope the developers literally kill themselves

is there any reason for updating? 18.04.1 seems good so far

Have they fixed gnome using far too much CPU usage yet?

The funniest thing is that on 0.001% of setups it works flamelessly and so buttery smooth you'll want to kill yourself for using stuttery shit you have. Here is some random vid I found on the Internetz:
youtube.com/watch?v=N5tGmNpsvTc

Solus is actually pretty good tho

Least you could do is warsow or openarena

This isn’t Antergos with Deepin.

go ahead, it's fine as long as you don't have any weird repos enabled. don't forget to "apt update" first, then apt dist-upgrade.

how do you make Jow Forums look like that? also are you the ruri/windos10 poster?, because you made me change my wallpaper

God damn Ubuntu 18.10 is smooth as fuck.

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-10-18 18-59-34.png (2560x1080, 1.79M)

sudo do-release-upgrade
is the proper way btw, it lets you review what's going to happen and also roll back the repo changes if you don't want to go through with it

booting the livecd can't enumerate my usb, meaning no inputs whatsoever on my rig.

I first got into linux because I simply liked the idea of it. And because Microsoft was starting to force software incompatibility on WinXP users.
I remember back then making your WiFi work was a real pain in the ass even on newbie distros, but nowadays I can't think of any major issue that would stop anyone from using linux for the first time.
You're either using some really obscure hardware, or you're full of shit. ( Or you're one of those shining retards that fell for the bait of installing arch as their first distro )
If you're installing Mint or Ubuntu and it doesn't work out of the box, its very very likely that the problem is you.

>Ubuntu is botnet tier now
How?

Attached: 1479509471509.png (947x644, 794K)

There are some packages you need to watch, but it's not as bad as it was before and nowhere near microsoft levels of botnet.

>If you're installing Mint or Ubuntu and it doesn't work out of the box, its very very likely that the problem is you.
It fails to enumerate my usb devices on boot. Must be a kernel bug. This is a recent motherboard. Works great everywhere else.
Blaming the user for software bugs is hostile behavior.

You missed the
>very very likely
part of my post.
You're an exception, though.
>Must be a kernel bug
Are you using a notebook?

No, custom built. I'll figure it out eventually. I probably need to install the long term release and upgrade manually.

how is it vs lxde? last time i messed with anything lxqt it was still in it's infancy.

what's new with Amazonbunto these days?

Attached: amazon_logo_500500._V323939215_.png (500x500, 14K)

ubuntu a shit

Attached: 1473438013594.png (272x265, 74K)

What's new?

Does the UI still look like something from 1999 but with purple instead of grey?

the UI is new
new name
new number
