Explain that to game devs. I mean- they did, but they also provided lots of documentation for it, and provided just slightly more low level access than open gl did, and hence the problem. Never mind that OpenGL is so much more fucking standard and easier to implement, and is extensible, so you can swap out one library for another, even at the firmware level.
