Any data hoarders here?

What is your set up?

What do you mainly hoard?

Attached: Mini-mining-rig.jpg (720x960, 68K)

you should consider linux those terminals look disgusting and unfunctional, just a server running linux without graphics your hoarding potential will sky rocket

You need to freeze hard drives. They start going bad after 15 years.

>What is your set up?
internal 5tb hdd, external Samsung 3tb hdd
>What do you mainly hoard?
All tv shows, dvd movies and tutorials related to my field of interest.

Synology 1817+ with 8x8tb Reds
4 8tb externals

Looking to buy the 1819+ when it drops and another BB deal on 8tb shuckables.

I host Plex so take your guess.

What keyboard?

just anime, porn and some movies, thought I jsut delete them now that I am starting to run out of storage again.
I have about 14,5TB of space and 8tb occuped after cleaning, I started downloading more now that I got some space free. I will mainly save just the private trackers shit.

Not HDD, but SSDs do yes. An alternative is also to get tape drives (yes, just like cassettes, they're still around and they're actually really really good in many ways, just sort of uncommon).

after 6 years of downloading crap, i'm still less than 2tb of junk on my current network drive. thinking some kind of dual 4tb nas (raid1) would do me some good, with extra singles for user backups. i've got a nice router that i can just plug a usb dual drive into and get shit shared that way (gigabit, usb3.1), currently looking at those western digital dual drive nas things (saw one with dual reds with $320 or so).

Lol. Why would anyone download stuff in 2018

Seriously what is the point then you have YouTube, spotify etc

Server with 9x3TB HDDs in RAID6. I use it for backups, shows/anime/movies, games and other shit. I also have 2 8TB HDDs which I keep offline with a full backup of the array, they're updated once a month.

I wish I could get tapes or something like that, but the tape drives themselves seem to be prohibitively expensive.

Made the switch to UnRaid from FreeNAS about a week ago. Around 65 TB array w/ 2 drive parity that's stuffed into a PC case. Next step is to get a server with enough bays to put into my rack.

Lot of archiving of software, some movies, tv porn

>What is your setup
Internal 2TB hdd and 4TB wd mycloud NAS
>What do you mainly hoard?
Chink cartoons, indie porn game from dlsite, and eroge all of which I've started collected since around 2010.

Non nude pictures of cute and sexy girls.
I have around a TB divided by different drives. I also keep deleting and cleaning the "uglier" girls, but I can't seem to reduce the full size. I also lost track of duplictaebsets/collections.

Literal NPC-tier thinking.

Attached: 1539697203715-g.jpg (754x617, 129K)

youtube goes down, channels get deleted or banned, Spotify costs money or has ads, quality prons aren't on the 'hubs.

If you have to ask, you don't understand.

How do I into data hoarding?

HDDs go bad as well, dingus.

>each one of those with a separate power source
>not keeping all of them in a small case
what a fucking retard

>What is your set up?
I have a 24 bay Supermicro that has some BB 8TB Reds in raidz1. Ubuntu with ZFS.
>What do you mainly hoard?
Backups of everything (photos, VMs, documents, families files) and media (TV, movies, pron, more games).

Jow Forumsdatahoarder has some good guides. Torrents, open directories, website ripping are all good ways to begin the accumulation. What kind of things do you like user? Start there.

image being this retarded

Sports, I can't find motorbike events in high quality and when I do they are ~16Gb/event.
Downloading history.

>What is your set up?
2 1TB USB HDDs for personal shit and backup of shit from my main PC (I don't keep all my shit on my PC), one on my desk and a back up of that in a fire proof box.

1 500GB HDD with non personal shit. List below.

>What do you mainly hoard?
Old Macintosh software for a few old PowerMacs I have. Old games, some productivity software, etc.
Windows ISOs and some useful older Windows software
Old computer magazines.
PDFs (whitepapers/spec sheets/manuals) for SGI, Pre-Intel Macs, Sun Microsystems, DEC, etc systems and software.

What a great creepshot, this is how it's done!

>wincuck

I've gotten into saving any erotic fanfiction I enjoy.

sometimes i download data but then delete it because i don't really care

Continue deleting, until you realise that it was meaningless all along.

my 10tb helium drive seems heavier than it was when i bought it. is there any way to refill it?
will regular balloon helium work?

currently rocking 3 ceph servers with total of 768tb

not everyone is as basic as you

I have a about 12 tb of storage distributed across all of my computing devices but I probably won't be buying anymore drives. I just use cloud storage now.

Attached: storage.png (260x100, 57K)

OmniOS server with ZFS on 4x 3tb + 2x 6tb hdds. Emby, Subsonic, Nextcloud in separate zones.

>Any data hoarders here?
yes
>What is your set up?
ultralight pc running lubuntu with 12TB of hard drives
>What do you mainly hoard?
all of my steam library, and roms, mainly from the nds, gba gbc and some isos for the psx and the psp and 2 or 3 games from the wii u, also like 50 or 60 anime series along with a copy of all the main windows releases for shenanigans and maybe 2 or 3 software licenses that some folks from the neighbourhood always request

Imagine a zettabyte

Porn
I don't hoard any generic stuff though, only dmca

NPCs

proof pls

i have posted my stuff countless times on various "server threads" around
im sure you can find em

>Non nude pix
Do you ever actually look at said pics, or just hoard?

>2x2TB in main PC, 1x4TB backup
>GCN & Wii ROMS, instagram videos, wallpapers, documentaries
Staying lean, no weebshit and all TVshit gets deleted after viewing. Thought about a NAS but I can probably just run 2x4TB in the house PC and get by for another 5-10 years.

>no weebshit

if you have more than 2tb you are either creating content or stealing it.

6 external TBs of Gravure Idols and JAV since 2006.
Some are pretty rare at this point, and can't be found on the net anymore

yeah because below 2tb you just rename everything you steal as linux.iso

I used to hoard data until I started living in Germany.
The government allows rights holders to issue you with ~600 Euro fines for downloading illegally, so I cut it out.
This being Germany, if you get the notice, you pay. It's that simple.

what field?

>my 10tb helium drive seems heavier than it was when i bought it. is there any way to refill it?
Its the your filled space that weights so much

get a seedbox and download from there
if they send you something
>i have family on whatever place the seedbox is and they send me stuff

Just random media

around 20TB in my main desktop, another 26TB in another machine downstairs.

bullshit i have 500mb HDDs from the early 90s that still work.

>Why would anyone download stuff

Attached: Do7la_wU4AAwVrb.jpg (441x900, 64K)

>What is your setup?
Local machines are in the networking closet. Data is kept in a 90 bay with 8tb drives, running 10 drive raidz2s. An identical machine lives in a datacenter as the backup.

I'd like to expand to 1pb locally, but I'm already bottlenecked by the network connection.

Regular internal hard drives with cloud backup (rclone).

I hoard mostly obscure persuasion/ hypnosis/ NLP shit, with some esoteric works, etc.

By "hoard" I mean "tightly curate for the best stuff".

Probably doesn't qualify as a hoard (I'm still not even 2TB into "tightly curated content", but I'm quite happy with it.

I have a 1TB tar file...
It contains a few million images. Has to be in a tar because zfs is retarded and if left untared it takes up 70 percent more space.

Based actual retard

Holy fuck... care to share/ magnet?

>2018
>start of the pseudocyberpunk era
>not being data yourself

Mostly anime and porn. Running a raid array,
Don't use externals, bros. Build a real nas

4x 3TB WD Reds in RAID 6 inside a 4-bay QNAP. 1x 8TB cold storage backup I manually backup the array to every now and again when I have the time.

Usual personal stuff, photos, software and torrented things, plus FLAC library, but I also have a bunch of 64+ channel live audio multi-tracks from concerts, each gig can be between 100GB - 300GB depending on sample rate so that takes to most of the space

>Any data hoarders here?
Sorta
>What is your set up?
However much I can fit on my 500gb or so /home partition on my internal laptop hard drive. Occasionally backed up to an external 1tb drive.
Looking to get some bigger external drives when I have some extra cash. Eventually shucking those and putting them in a dedicated system down the line.
>What do you mainly hoard?
Movies, tv shows, anime, porn if I really like it.
Usually download anime episode by episode of some shit streaming site. If I like it enough to keep it I find high quality versions of it and reencode to h.265 to save space

Such as?

>I hoard mostly obscure persuasion/ hypnosis/ NLP shit, with some esoteric works, etc.
What do you mean by all of that?

I mean that if you want to learn how to use hypnosis on stage, on the streets, or in therapy, if you want to do mentalism, and use those methods to assist your current psychotherapy/ psychology practice, I have *all* the resources you would ever need.

There's very few things which I don't have on the matter.

And yes, it's a legitimate thing with plenty of science behind it.

weak

wouldn't it be smarter to have a single hot drive and use the other drive for scheduled backups so you aren't constantly wearing out both of the drives and you get more redundancy

Attached: 1d77f7651fd4e94d4286adf18feaafc7.jpg (627x886, 149K)

Have you tried it?

8tb external HDDs frequently sell for like half the price of the internal drive on its own. Shucking them just to put them in a case just adds more cost

I've had 21 TB for 10 years

Havn't really needed anything more than that

Mostly filled with movies and tv-shows

Yeah, worked as a hypnotherapist; due to business disagreements, moved to marketing and sales. I still use more-or-less the same tech.

streaming bitrate won't come remotely close to bluray-rip quality for at least a decade

if you can't tell the difference, your tv/monitor/eyes+ears suck.

>What is your set up?
30TB FreeNAS in my parent's home. I pay their internet for this.
>What do you mainly hoard?
Textbooks, slides, papers, recordings from talks/conferences/classes.

Depends on the goal. RAID is not a backup. RAID is generally used to keep the data resilient to failure while still being accessible. Backup is backup, it generally won't be accessible in the same way as the primary copy (which is as it should be). RAID does provide resilience but does not protect against things like malicious software, user error or catastrophic hardware failure.

You do more downloading than I do. Every time you want to watch a movie or listen to a song, you download it, you just don't save it. That's all streaming is. If I want a song, I download it once then play it locally.

got 6 hp proliant microservers each with 32tb storage

games, tv, movies, anime, books, porn, you name it i got it.

Attached: 1539684205776.jpg (1080x1080, 146K)

I pirate literal TBs movies out of principle because I hate Hollywood. Got a problem with that?

>posts on a technology board
>can't into getting a seedbox or vpn
Check out this faggot.

Why are you even living in such a shithole?

They won't be able to see what you are downloading as long as you're not retarded and use encrypted protocols.

>2x10TB WD Reds
>4x2TB WDs Greens/Blues
>1x2TB Seagate Barracuda
>several smaller drives and SSDs
Thousands upon thousands of hours of 1080p movies and TV shows, thousands upon thousands of albums, every single reaction image, every link, book title and note I've saved on my several desktops and laptops since 2006.

It's a sickness. The further you carry your data, the more you're bound to it, especially as the cost of replacement storage goes down every year.

>data hoarding
>on Windows
Be seeing you soon, user.

Attached: Cryptolocker-V-3.jpg (700x463, 118K)

> Data hoarding
> On internal HDDs

Also you must be so dumb to catch a ransomware.

I hate the NPC meme, but you sure are one.

your face when it encrypts your network drives?

>he doesn't use plex

Attached: girl-holding-laughter_1194-414.jpg (626x464, 89K)

how often do you rewatch videos to justify hoarding it?

>what is your setup
A drawer full of 1 and 2 TB HDD's
>what do you board
Everything, but my specialty is a lot of raws and high quality UC Gundam anime, books, manga, Model Grafix, movies, you name it.

If you're retarded enough to be using SMB then a network worm is inevitable

are you accessing your freenas box outside the LAN? that's super risky and questionable

>SJWinux

Nooooooope. You trannies can drink my pee.

Attached: the new Linux boss.jpg (2048x1159, 360K)

>xer uses plex

Attached: 623f2c6.png (258x287, 42K)

why are you buying big hard drives when CDs are cheep, and can be removed for security.
we all have read write readers
it only takes a little effort
so why the hell not use CDs for data storage?

Attached: 800px_COLOURBOX2484091.jpg (800x629, 85K)

well I just fucked up.

Attached: 1537650760911.jpg (465x465, 70K)

what would be a good setup to archive aprox 100 TB of data with some safety net in case a drive fails, without forking out for RAID1?

also, tape is off the table because this data needs to be readily accessible.
