cmus is the best.
How can other players even compete?

I use mpv because:
I already use it to watch anime.
It just works.
It has terminal control and a graphical window.
My files can't be expected to have correct tags, so some of cmus's modes are useless.
My file manager is better than cmus for browsing.
I've never understood the playlist vs queue system used by music players.

Let's say you're listening something and you want to set few more songs to play in succession. How do you do it?

If they were in the same directory (i.e. an album) you'd just use mpv /path/to/album/*

You run mpv with one of the input control options, and send a 'loadfile' command. Shell escaping might be annoying with special characters in filenames, but mpv ships with the 'umpv' python script that seems to work well.

It's a nice player but I prefer mpd for its client-server design. Here's a pic of my client for comparison :^)

>using a client-server design
>the client can only control audio devices on the host
why?

No

Does it have a visualizer?

there's a generic visualizer which works with basically everything if you're really into that stuff github.com/dpayne/cli-visualizer

mpd is nice because you can close ncmpcpp and the music keeps playing

spooky

You can also do that with cmus but you have to use screen or tmux.

I like cmus a lot.

>can keep playing music in the background even when you close it

MOC is the best, how can other players even compete?

looks nice. I'll check it out.
It it's defaults good? I don't care for customization.

Default is nice, interface is dead simple and it feels like Ranger the file manager. Obviously I like it how I can tweak it and is not hard.

I've never bothered ricing moc, didn't even think to given the defaults. The only real negative I've had with it is that it doesn't particularly like sshfs mountpoints for some reason.

>My files can't be expected to have correct tags
just use beets and never think about tags again

>The only real negative I've had with it is that it doesn't particularly like sshfs mountpoints for some reason.
What do you mean? That's the way I've listened to music for years.

>beets
It literally tells online music sellers what you are listening, I don' say you shouldn't be using it just be thoughtful about it.

Not seen anything about that, is that when you query musicbrainz?

I read that musicbrainz isn't the only service it queries.

You have to configure which services it hits, just turn off the ones you don't want. ezpz

mpd + mpc
Where are your gods now?

Maybe it's just muh setup, then. Kills itself sometimes when I add a huge mountpoint with tons of directories.

Talking somewhere around 7500+ top levels with 2TB+~ of data.

Can I save automatically after adding tracks? If I do it manually it says "can't save when tracks are being added"

why not just use spotify?

pape?
