Don't get tricked into installing/using Linux by Loonixfags unless you're a developer. Except for you health, nothing in life is more valuable than your time. There are no official statistics but we all know it's true: if we had two samples, a group of Windows users and another group of Linux users, the mean amount of virgins, unemployment and faggots who watch anime would be higher in the Linux group. Don't deny it, we all know it's true and again, I am talking about the general rule because like in every statistic, there are exceptions. Being unsuccessful almost always results in a lack of self confidence. They can't stand the fact that they suck at everything in life so what they'll do is trying to convince you to use Linux because apparently it's safer and easier to use (lmfao). Maybe they're not even aware of it but subconsciously they know that their counterpart is not going to be able to handle Linux. In their subconscious mind. they want their counterpart to come back and say "what were you talking about? Linux is not easy to use, it's a wase of time" so they can him stupid for it and feel superior to anything/anyone for once in their life. You have to consider it's not really their fault, it's just their brain trying to compensate. We shouldn't be mad at them. This does not apply to developers (actual developers, and most people on this "tech" board aren't developers) because it's understandable if a dev doesn't want to deal with cygwin, mingw, wsl or installing libraries on Windows in the first place. But using Linux as a daily driver it a timesink, so don't fall for the trap.

lmfao and if you actually did manage to get yourself around it they'll give you shit and call you a noob for using distros that are easy to use like Ubuntu, Mint or Manjaro.

If your job actually requires using computers for shit more serious than an office package and a web browser then It's more likely you will not be very pleased if your OS is constantly trying to tell you it knows better than you what you want and doing anything feels like arguing with your OS.
"Oh I see you want to use firefox/chrome... how bout you try muh fast AF browser???"
"Oh, I'm sorry to tell you but the ads that take 1/5 of your screen space when you click on your menu can't be removed... deal with them... btw we can track the shit you do to "tailor" the ads experience you get..."
And so on bullshit.
No one is telling you NOT to use Linux. If you need Linux you will use it - simple as that.

hey user, if you got here without reading the OP you could install and mess around with a linux distro in the time it'd take you to read that mess in the OP

Attached: 1482687924589.png (480x480, 202K)

Really? That’s odd, I got away from this steaming pile of shit BECAUSE I VALUE MY TIME.
I just loved when I would have a limited timeframe to complete a task and windows would decide NOW is the best time to waste a fucking hour installing the latest candy crush shitware (again!). And the time spent fixing anything when you get past the initial “I’m a retard” curve is low because you can’t break the system. Meanwhile I cannot tell you how many times I needed to full out wipe windows and reinstall because one thing got fucked up and took down the whole team with it. You’re literally too fucking dull to learn something new, so you fall back to what’s familiar and comfortable. Nice blog faggot.

>hey user, if you got here without reading the OP you could install and mess around with a linux distro in the time it'd take you to read that mess in the OP
I have been using it regularily for dev work, especially lately because I've been playing around with the GraalVM which isn't available on Windows yet.

>If your job actually requires using computers for shit more serious than an office package and a web browser
hence "unless you're a developer" .. most people don't do shit on their machines except for playing games, watching netflix and wasting time on social networks.

Neither one of those things are true tf are you on about. I never get any messages about IE or the other Microsoft browser.. Also don't get whatever you're talking about with the ads

I'm not a developer but I still use Linux. I enjoy being able to boot into my OS in less than 30 seconds. I enjoy being able to do whatever I want without being interupted by constant reminders to update my system. I enjoy being able to turn off my machine without having to update my system. I enjoy my freedom, and I enjoy my time. Good day, sir.

I'm sure this is a bait thread, but not all distros are time sinks. You could install some sort of Debian/Ubuntu/Mint/Whatever and be done with it, only taking about 15 minutes to setup. As opposed to setting up a Windows installation, where you have to chase down drivers and .exes.

> unless you're a developer

Okay thanks. I will.

>I enjoy being able to boot into my OS in less than 30 seconds
Don't know what you're talking about youtube.com/watch?v=4zklM6T_l2E
> I enjoy being able to do whatever I want without being interupted by constant reminders to update my system.
Another overexaggeration, typical.
>I enjoy being able to turn off my machine without having to update my system.
So disable updates and in case they're critical updates, they should be installed.

>As opposed to setting up a Windows installation, where you have to chase down drivers and .exes.
As soon as you have to deal with programs that aren't in the official repos you'll have to deal with the same shit (if not worse) on Linux.

Fuck off, I use Kubuntu and it literally just works.

>Fuck off
let it out, it's okay.

>As soon as you have to deal with programs that aren't in the official repos you'll have to deal with the same shit (if not worse) on Linux.
Fair point, but you can find .deb and flatpaks for most things now that may not be in official repos. Unless you're compiling yourself from source, it shouldn't be more difficult than following a windows installation prompt.

>just disable updates

i am 67 years old and let me tell you, unless you die early you have more than enough time. too much time. you find yourself actively looking for things to distract yourself with in an effort to fend off the numbing boredom that creeps up on you year by year.
if you want to use linux, use linux. if you are involved with technology it will always benefit you to learn about it at a deeper level.
learning is always a valuable endeavor, and will never be a waste of time.

>that purple link

nobody shoud be taking advice from you.

i have three grandchildren. two of them have graduated college and are living their own lives and the other just started. needless to say they are currently too busy to hang out with the old man.

It didn't take me much to get to boot times this fast, I spend most time staring at a blank screen before BIOS starts up, I want to replace it with coreboot set up to go into GNU grub directly. Keep in mind that this is an old i5, and CPU speed matters when booting off a SSD.
>disable LVM
>use a simple partitioning scheme with MBR and only primary partitions
>disable FSCK if you like taking risks, it could save you a couple hundred milliseconds on an SSD
>compress your initramfs with LZOP on the slowest preset
>disable unnecessary services and use sockets or other means to make ones that aren't essential lazy

> I enjoy being able to do whatever I want without being interupted by constant reminders to update my system.
I guess you don't remember updates that delete files or ones that render systems unbootable (remember microcode patches for meltdown?)
>I enjoy being able to turn off my machine without having to update my system.
Windows is absolute garbage in this regard, it takes your system hostage for a long time with major updates for no good reason. The worst case scenario with GNU/Linux is a reboot after a kernel update because you haven't loaded some kernel module that you needed to work. There are hotpatching solutions, but if you spend 15 minutes it takes to get your boot times to become stupidly fast, a reboot results in next to no uptime. Also, I can just not update my system if I want to, I don't even need to disable updates because I do them myself.
>As opposed to setting up a Windows installation, where you have to chase down drivers and .exes.
Windows 10 made a major leap in this regard, and windows update seems to install drivers in majority of cases, unless your hardware is obscure or very old. Still, Linux seems to have better hardware compatibility from my experience.

Linux is not that bad, if you get used to it and learn to deal with stuff like packages and terminal, everything is okay, and I can understand why is so popular for programmers, servers and shit, I was forced to learn a bit of ubuntu for a project, and ended trying various distros like majaro or antegros, yet I can't uderstand how people can use it as main OS (not work), that crap of "even your grandma can use it" is trash

Attached: r_248526_XcefY.jpg (721x505, 71K)

Why did you boot 2 times and why did it take longer the first time?

No shit. Most normies use Loosedows.
The mean of Jow Forums would be a brazilion percent higher than total Linux users also.
And your grandma is absolutely better off with, say, Linux Mint than Loosedows or Android.

nice blog

I use both Windows and Linux, but Linux really isn't that hard and in some ways even easier than windows. I'm not saying that to feel better about myself, I genuinely mean it.

That being said, use whatever you want to use. Nobody cares.

the privacy subreddit is actually good but i agree with everything else. what a timesink linux is. at the end of the day, you can only protect your privacy so much until it becomes an inconvience. there are always backdoors.

Those people who complain about Linuxfags are even worse.

So, because some information can leak here or there, one should just stop caring and let out everything?

I don't have any philosophical reason for using Linux. I just enjoy using it more. I don't talk to people about the fact that I use Linux. I don't have any feeling of superiority over those who use other systems. If I wanted to, I could afford a Macintosh or buy Windows. But I don't enjoy using those operating systems as much as I enjoy using Linux. so I don't.

>nothing in life is more valuable than your time

not if you have an iq above 75, the ability to read and the basic cognitive ability of a capuchin monkey.

>using Linux as a daily driver it a timesink
if you have no valuable time and spend your days on social media, gaming & looking at porn, then linux is not for you.

but if you don't depend on windows for work, you don't game and are not social-media-dependent, linux is for you.

>inb4ing your own post

better than doing IT work in your free time

It's insanely easy to just install Ubuntu and use the update GUI without really having to touch the terminal(unless you want stuff that isn't in the official repo)

Loonix is absolutely dogshit for graphics design. Libre office compared to office is laughable in terms of snapiness.

It took fucking 12gb of ram, not even when running/building anything

Clearly never used windows
