What’s going to happen to Intel and AMD once transistors stop shrinking?

What’s going to happen to Intel and AMD once transistors stop shrinking?

OwO whats this?

Hardware specialization will become more important.

Focus on refinements and success rates.
Standalone transistors already shrank to 1nm, getting 15B+ onto the same die will keep them both busy for the next 50 years at least.

Bigger chips due to process refining and overall decrease of wafers costs. $200 16-core threadripper snd so on.

There's been research regarding materials other than silicon to use for micro chips, you might want to look into that.
Also the ever prevalent meme of quantum computing.
Other than that, market stagnation I guess.

Revival of dual-CPU platforms and than hence room-sized PCs

Whatever happened to graphene processors?

I highly doubt that.
Anything CPU intensive is already done on server farms, with bandwith nowhere as near as silicon is to it's physical limit, so I guess cloud computing is going to be more prevalent for serious CPU heavy lifting.
Personal computers will probably be slightly more powerful than they are now, and that will be enough for the average facebook machine.

They'll just make them bigger, and drive down costs elsewhere in manufacturing. They'll move to giant wafers or something.

What about GAMING computers?

Monthly subscription gayman service app.
It was tried a couple of time, but the tech just wasn't there yet.
Well, by the time silicon can't be further shrinked, it should be.
Either gaems will become so demanding that you just can't run them at home, or gaems will stagnate at their current grafix.

Aren't GAYMING companies already starting to push the streaming meme?

they gonna finally make larger chips

Broccolibutts

reversible computing

Being unable to further shrink microprocessors is not a positive sign for the tachyon project, user.

a massive mentally ill faggot

I had a dream of him once, I walked into my bedroom and broccolibutts was in a Link costume and laying on my bed. Then he said in my dead friend's voice "they don't call it the "try-force for nothing." Then I woke up and went to work fixing copy machines. What a mind fuck.

Seriously this

I know that girl (male) I jacked it to her a few times

Collective computing protocols or shit like that.

100% tösapåg

Can bleeding edge gayming tolerate the inevitable lag of remote processing? I'm pretty sure that's an impossibility.

They'll probably try for a form factor adaptation

make the chips bigger

CPU power is already overkill for majority of users. That doesn't mean companies will not need to find other sources of revenue. Intel was already doing it trying to relable itself as a service company.
Computing power will accelerate more towards network process. Companies are pushing for dumb terminals and remote desktops like Microsoft.
It will be funny to see in next few years how internet and how controlled internet will be a must for companies.

they'll just switch from silicon to graphite.

Deep learning, once we can make A.I.s that refine themselves it won't be long before they create processors that surpass the human brain, and after that, well...

Broccolibutts is actually the hung dude pounding him. He's elf-slut on tumblr.

It's all over. The ride ends. We enter a new dark age. The singularity doesn't happen. Huge chunks of arable land are lost. Riots, the likes of which we have never seen happen. Mass death.

they can make 1nm transistors but the problem is manufacturing it

>meme
He thinks he's going to be able to pirate shit in the future :D

>transistors stop shrinking?
already
>What’s going to happen to Intel and AMD?
bancrocy/sellout/fireouts

>look at his desk
yep, this faggot defiantly looks like he belong on Jow Forums

>t. saw what's under the mask
i wish i hadn't

>they can make 1nm transistors

he looks good, if he wasnt a fag posting porn on the net he could probably model or atleast drown in pussy

>pirate shit
oh yeah what ever will I do when I can no longer pirate all of that non-free software I'm not using

10nm -> 7nm ->5nm ->3nm->?

terahertz InSb

software """"""""engineers"""""""" will finally have to
start using their brain to optimize their software.

maybe people will finally be forced to care about software quality again

Have you seen some of AMD's 20 core server chips? They're literally just double the size.

Something like this:

Still plenty room for architecture improvement

The Great Space War II will take place

Yes please, central room-sized home computation systems connected to all of your portable devices.

>In 2012, a single-atom transistor was fabricated using a phosphorus atom bound to a silicon surface (between two significantly larger electrodes).[44] This transistor could be said to be a 360 picometer transistor, twice the van der Waals radius of a phosphorus atom

This
Came here just to say THIS

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT, FELLOW HACKERS

they will start wearing spandex suits and will use actors in carton suits to simulate gigant robots ?

that';s kinda hot

Intel won't go anywhere
They've acquired Altera
They have a non-volatile storage medium called 3d crosspoint with access latency comparable to DRAM
Both have potential to be world beaters just like GPUs were
Speaking of that they partnered with AMD to work on a GPU also.

This will never work for actual gamers. You cannot cheat the speed of light.

who is this and is there more?

>Companies are pushing for dumb terminals and remote desktops like Microsoft.
This, they've actually been pushing it since at least the early 90's
Not just remote desktop either. I remember seeing some slides from M$DN talking the long term goal to make everyone's PC part of a distributed / peer-to-peer computing botnet running networked OLE containers

I want to cum inside elf-slut's ass.

I suspect more processors per computer. We already have graphical stuff outsourced to GPUs
Your 2030 desktop will be a sum of several little pcs with dedicated tasks

This probably just find better ways to save power and add more CPUS and make the lag of them talking to each other less and less

But more than likely we already have enough processing power for a long time and we will just see alot of stuff scaled into the cloud

What a weird photograph.

Why isn't he wearing a shirt? Why is he holding a skull while covering his face and hands?
