i asked on pleddit but i receved no answer, i'm hoping some of you will be knowledgable and kind enought to answer me.
Let's assume i built an aircraft in my garage, what would hapen if i flew it without any licence or transponder in low altitude from shouthern UK to northern France.
the aircraft have floats, i won't be flying over any populated area
A fighter jet would escort you to the nearest naval base
Jacob Harris
doubt, my cruise speed is much lower then the stall speed of a jet.
Josiah White
>tism Maybe not literally a fighter jet (not that it couldn't orbit around you), but I'm pretty sure you can't just cross a border without permission
Tyler Harris
> I'm pretty sure you can't just cross a border without permission
as an European citizen i don't need permission to cross the border in the European union.
crossing the border is "legal", the only thing i don't know about is flight without any papperwork.
Luke Davis
I mean, I realize you aren't flying over Colombia or whatever, but still, that's serious stuff youtube.com/watch?v=bWZwqNhJyLI

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathias_Rust If this guy could land in the heart of the USSR, I don't see why you couldn't land in Northern Somalia. All they can do is throw rocks at you and rape you in prison.
Jack Jenkins
>from shouthern UK to northern France >as an European citizen i don't need permission to cross the border in the European union. The UK isn't part of the Schengen area.
Jason James
Yeah, I know. But 1. maybe that doesn't apply to air traffic, especially if you don't have some kind of license, and 2. they don't necessarily know where you're coming from with your little non identifiable aircraft.
James Moore
>Rust was sentenced to four years in prison Besides, that was in the late 80s. Radar systems have evolved a lot since then. I'm not saying OP would go to prison (even though I guess that could happen), but probably at least would risk being applied some kind of heavy fine.
Jeremiah Ross
damn dude, it really put shit into perspective it still is untill the Brexit is completed >maybe that doesn't apply to air traffic definetly, i know you can't just take an aircraft and fly randomly. but what if i fly low over the sea ? no way i could be a threat to a passenger jet or anything. considering my speed and low altitude, i will probably look like a boat on the radars
Jonathan Lewis
you could probably get away with it flying locally (if no one reports you and you dont get detected on a radar) but flying cross country is a big no no, you see no transponder means you could be a terrorist/russian. Also in the uk you need a loicense for everything, pilot loicense, aircraft worthiness certificate, medical, you name it and you will need a loicense for it tldt if you dont get reported and caught on radar you are fine, but if they catch you depending on your circumstances they will fine you or put in jail, or worst they will shoot you down
Nicholas Ramirez
Nah, they definitely can tell the difference between a 3 meter high fast boat and something at 50ft It's an interesting question though
Alexander Allen
If you can't be bothered to do some research, how will you have the patience and motivation to build a plane? My guess is you probably need a VFR licence, some government body to inspect the airplane and get it registered, buy insurance etc. There's always the chance you won't be noticed or reported to the authorities, but is it worth the risk in the nanny state you live in?
Nathan Williams
This is a bad idea. A horrible idea. Even if you make it with no intervention and no problems and no laws in the way you still end up in Northern France. You and your plane are going to be ruined through "cultural enrichment" and then not only are you stuck in mainland Europe but you have no plane, no money, and probably a few new STDs from all that diversity.
Jeremiah Ramirez
Schengen Area is something different than EU, UK is not in Schengen. Many countries that are not in eu are in Schengen and not all eu countires are in Schengen.
Wyatt Fisher
kek
Josiah Morgan
this what's your endgame anyway?

>Implying OP can build a fucking plane in his garage
Yeah, but getting that shit shipped to the UK (presumably from the US) would be expensive as fuck.
Grayson Bell
dude its an ultralight made of steel pipes and a used VW engine, not an F35
any retard with free time and few bucks to spare can build one
Cameron Morales
Look up the criterias for microlights, some places don't need anything special for microlights, and are pretty stealthy to radar.
You'd still need a microlight license though.
You're looking at a C/VFR flight which is under CAS FL180 which I doubt your homebrew plane can reach anyways. In the EU you gotta stay 500ft above any obstacle within a 500ft radius and at least 1000ft above the any fixed object within 600m when flying over populated areas.
Owen Hill
So about half a year of full time work (at best) to make one from scratch? Yeah, OP ain't doing it man. And again, shipping one of these things would be expensive because it's not something that's sold en mass.
Ian Kelly
OP WE WANT PICS
Asher Bell
op, you don't have any radios and an escort swings left and right kind of lile a dutch roll, swing back, that means you're confirming radio failure
Jacob Reed
Gorbachev arranged for that so Gorbachev could fire military officers he didn't like.
