CPU >R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming(dGPU optional) >R5 2400G/i5-8400 - Consider IF on sale >R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs >R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform >i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc. >Wait for R7 3700X - Surely the best overall and not a massive disappointment like the 9900k >Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT
RAM >8GB - Enough for most gaming use >16GB - Standard for heavy use >32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal
Graphics cards >RTX 2000 cards are worse performance per $ than previous gen >Avoid cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans 1080p >RX 570/580 w/ Freesync or 1060 6GB - standard 1080p 60fps+ options >1050 3Gb or RX560 4Gb - lower settings and/or older games >GTX 1070Ti/Vega 56 - for higher FPS w/ a high hz monitor 1440p >Vega 56; 1070Ti/1080 if you already have Gsync >GTX 1080Ti - for higher FPS w/ a high hz monitor 4K >Upscale from 1620-1800p. Maybe 2080Ti, but awful value. OpenCL use >Vega 64
Storage >Backup before using StoreMi >Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD >2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB >M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard >NVMe are not for gaming; See "More"
Display >Consider 75hz minimum; 60hz are mostly old models. >Always consider FreeSync w/ AMD cards >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
I'm pretty fucking new to building my own shit, so anyone want to reccomend me a build mostly used for gaming with a budget of about 700-750? Already have a monitor etc.
My r3 2200g has been reaching almost 70C while gaming inside of my small case. I've been thinking of getting a Be Quiet BK008 (pic related) for my small case. I can't go much bigger due to limited space. I'll likely upgrade to a 2600 during Black Friday and try OC'in it to 4.2 Ghz. Will this cooler do a good job? I have around 60€ in Amazon gift cards so I can buy something much more efficient end expensive if need be.
Since this thread is already CPU related: Just delidded my 8700k and overclocked it to 5Ghz on 1,225V. The package reaches max 62°C on Prime95 with an AIO. Is this any good?
Josiah Harris
Yes that's good.
Christopher Wilson
Hey guys, I plan to upgrade some stuff once Cyber Monday rolls around, but I'm not sure what to prioritize as my budget may be limited.
My build is from 2014 and consists of: CPU: i5 4690k GPU: Radeon R9 290 (I originally used 2 of these on Crossfire but one of my cards shat itself) RAM: 16GB DDR3 Motherboard: Asus Z-97 Pro
Obviously I use it for gaming, but I don't play too many AAA games so getting >60 FPS on high settings isn't something I care about, I'm more concerned about future-proofing and having to upgrade as infrequently as possible.
Blake Jenkins
Yes congrats you bought the last good CPU intel ever made untill 2020. GJ not falling for the aggressive AMD shilling.

Is it decent enough? Is seems kind of cheap. My last cooler was a 30€ gammaxx 300 and that thing was too loud for my taste. Should I go for a 50€ noctua cooler and buy am AM4 kit for compatibility? I'm ok with my processor reaching 60C while gaming but I'm definitely not Ok with having jet engine sounds coming from my small form factor PC.
>want cpu for high refreshrate gayman >8700k shortage hits boosting it to same price levels as 9900K >9900k released it's a joke for price >nuclear facility levels of heat and even harder to delid and have to die lap >forced to be cucked by Incel or into buying ryzen and cucked by performance >can't win Thanks for reading my blog
This is perfectly legitimate way to clean nasty dust off hardware as long as >it's turned off >is dried before being turned on
Not surprisingly, the amount of retards who can't follow those simple rules have created very poor image for this method.

I'm looking for parts for a music ripper/player, I want it to be a small as possible, completely fanless and ideally with room for a full-sized optical drive, but a slim one might be fine too. I need spdif out, either on the motherboard or some pci card. Doesn't need room for too many harddrives, I'll probably just have 1 ssd in there.
Posted in last thread, updated according to suggestions pcpartpicker.com/list/ZG4cmq I know people think the i9-9900k is bad price/performance, but it's still top of the charts for gaming, and I'm willing to pay the extra cash for it just for that fact.
Forgot to state shipping from Canada is ideal but USA is fine too, price doesn't matter too much.
Asher Sullivan
Are intel and nvidia trying to do the limit test on their fanbois loyalty with these ridiculous price or are they really not considering AMD a threat at all?
Charles Smith
Unironically both increased prices by 200% for the lulz. Atleast here in eu
Zachary Powell
>newegg Too bad it's not r/amd here and your manipulation doesn't work :( Not my fault that you live in tanzania
Ethan Hall
keep an eye out for cheap haswell/broadwell i7s on ebay, really no need to change platforms yet
Colton Jenkins
At this point Intel and Nvidia are just like Apple. They have a cult-like crowd of fanboys who will buy whatever their cult company shits on a silver plate for them.
Grayson Russell
>nvidia still doesn't even have competition past the 1080 mark >Outperforms themselves with RTX cards, the top end bringing hugh refreshrate 4K gaming to the regular man Why would they not price it high? They have no competition. As for Intel, I'm a Intelfag but 9th gen is an actual joke, I'll admit.
Matthew Jenkins
>tanzania Please... It Would be have been better. Pic related
NVIDIA definitely is Intel doesn't like what they're doing, but they can't get to 10nm so they have to farm the shit out of 14nm in any way possible, which means rebranding Broadwell for the 7th time, except now the thermal design isn't quite as terrible
Ryan Cox
Anyone else have that case? I saw it in a desktop thread and it looks cool, but looks like it's for water cooling only?
kinda. its 20 quid more from a 3rd party seller but you get immediate delivery, or i have to wait for them to come back in stock in november (they are on pre order now)
Mason Morales
You're just proving my point by being a fag.

2600x for the better cooler, + overclock your ram

Noctua is usually better, yeah.

yikes even Linus says 9900k is a huge disaster and 2700x is better lol. How will incel ever recover?
Christian Morgan
by buying 8700k
Benjamin Morgan
589 US dollars lmao
Adrian Ortiz
Linus has always been critical of Intel's i9 lineup, and he isn't losing money because very few people are realistically dropping $488 on a CPU, and even more on motherboards and coolers. I don't think he's the biggest Intel shill, however in the majority of the reviews he does, he knowingly markets the product to his huge audience.
This is for a 1080p monitor, I simply converted the prices from Germany so you can probably find better deals in your own region. RX580 and R5 2600 is more than enough to play the majority of current gen games with 60 fps on the higher (if not ultra) graphical settings.
Linus didn't shit on the 9900k, he only bashed the astronomical pricing that is unattainable for most gamers.
He didn't even nitpick AMD shill talking points like the higher temps.
Brandon Reyes
>exaggerating the price Why are amdfags so desperate?
Samuel Sanchez
Literally took the cheapest 8700k available, there were a few for 600.
Grayson Lewis
I want to build a dual streaming computer. I generally play games like R6Seige, Overwatch, CSGO, and I guess black ops at the moment. I'm currently using a 1080p 240hz monitor so I'm not sure what GPU I should get for the gaming PC. I'll probably go I7-8700k for gaming CPU.
My old PC which I currently run an 3770k with a 980 could be salvageable as a dedicated streaming computer but I'm not sure on the specifics. But I might potentially buy a ryzen 2700x for streaming computer.
guts list going to change the Motherbord if the i7 8700k comes back in stock first. ive got an old noctua in my current pc so may use that as the cpu cooler if the wraith sucks
I've seen the Evolv X and the case needs better fans (Noctuas or Corsair's meme maglev fans) to cool your shit. Phanteks didn't even include 2.5 brackets nor the ITX bracket. The supposed PSU that should go inside it looks awesome though.
If you go dual systems on it you're basically cucked into using a giant CPU cooler as opposed to an AIO.
So you mean billions of dollars doesn't matter? Can we add that to the list of things which don't matter.
Nathan Ward
amd cucks anti 9th gen complaint list: >waaahhh too hot >waaahhh too much money DX are there any actual arguments as to why intel's 9th gen cpu's suck? no?
Christian Ramirez
AMD shills are working overtime to deter people from buying Intel.
It's coordinated cointelpro.
Grayson Evans
Stupid idea but I've actually been considering it:
What if I bought a shit ton of Rasberry Pi's and just linked them all together to form a PC build?
Would that be possible? Has this been tried before? Would it be cheaper?
H-help me, it's confusing I don't know what the difference are between the models. It's not the best of time to get RAM so should I just go with the cheapest Ripjaws, downclock them and tighten the timings?
Austin Rivera
Intelchad here, the temperature issues are significant tho. It was advertised as a CPU that could handle a 5 ghz oc, but it barely keeps its cool at stock with a fat aio
Elijah Taylor
yes just get the 3200/16 ones you can find them for less though
Carter Rodriguez
Imagine having to pay 250€ to get a working ram for ryzen lmao
Hudson Lopez
reminder that "stress test programs" like aida64 and prime95 are snake oil.
>overclock works fine for 24 hours in prime95 testing >BSODs immediately trying to play runescape
Michael Jenkins
So any of you can post rigs? I bet brand new 9900k that you all own some 5 year old i5
Bentley Mitchell
Cheapest I could find was 150€ (shipping not included and a week of waiting), so since I can get the other with free shipping in a much shorter time span I might just go with that one. Thank you.
Jose Gutierrez
>runescape it's the cpu detecting that you're a massive faggot and putting you out of your misery

I have a laptop with 6700HQ and a 8086K on the way for my desktop. Don't get what your point is though
Julian Smith
oh as usual, never any proofs lmao.
Easton Gomez
Is a 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor overkill for a 1070? I'll be playing older games so 100+fps at high settings are pretty much guaranteed. Is the 600€ price point for an IPS monitor justified? It's a high-end product so I don't imagine that it would be completely devalued in 5 years or so.
>gsync yikes >ips for gaming double yikes >600euro for a monitor MAJOR TRIPLE YIKES
Dylan James
They are all compatible with my board.
Lucas Bell
I can't prove that my 8086K is on the way because I'm buying it from my friend from Denmark. Shortage hit hard here and barely any 8700K's or 8086K's are left. Those that are are heavily overpriced. Luckily my friend bought one months ago and hasn't gotten around to finish his system yet, and is moving to USA for an exchange year, so he is selling me his. Here is a pic of my laptop's 6700HQ and I can provide a pic of the Z370 board that I have ready for the 8086.
But again, I don't get your point. Even if I had a 5 year old i5, what would be wrong about my statement?
>>gsync >yikes >>ips for gaming >double yikes euro for a monitor >MAJOR TRIPLE YIKES can you recommend anything better? Pro tip: not freesymc and no vega's. I already pay too much for heating
Samuel Parker
enjoy your stuttering, tearing and ghosting. Anything that's not gsync and ips why do you even need it?
Nathaniel Powell
>determined to buy a grill. >Willing to pay a premium for a 15% "advantage". That cooler isn't enough, you need a wind-tunnel.
