It was though. C64 was outdated a few (3) years later, when the Amiga came out (well, even Atari ST). 8-bits vs 32-bits, 64k vs 512k, 170k 5.25" floppies vs 800k 3.5" floppies, 320x200 vs 640x512, etc, etc.
Plus the fact that he has a C128, it was outdated when it came out.

Supported does not mean it wasn't outdated, it was only supported because it was cheap and widely used, on a hardware standpoint, it was toast few years after it's release.
Hardware grew at a much higher rate back then, your computer from 5 years ago back in the 80's felt like somethin from 2006 does now, compared to modern equivalents.
