I understand your frustration. I deleted all my google shit last month, facbook about 5 years ago. I have a pihole setup to block anything going to either domain, except for the fucking captcha. I also hate github. They've lived the good life for too long and think they're untouchable, but that complacency is their weakness. They're out of touch with people, and think they know what's best for everyone. I'm sure there must be some sort of archetype to describe them but it's escaping me and I digress. If not corrected soon, this behavior will be their downfall.

Excuse me, could you please restate your point, because it sounded like you just said Google, Facebook, et al, would never even think about blocking someone from their platform. Also I don't know what your understanding of cryptography is, but the point of cryptography is two fold: secrecy, and knowing if a message has been altered. If you encrypt it before you ever send it to a google server, then the recipient would know if it had been altered.

Of course the receiver knows it's not correct anymore, but just like a crc error on your download: it's nice to know and all, but you still don't have the message. Effectively blocking you.
And while we were talking about (IF, big IF) the phone company, or the post company doing this, it doesn't matter who does it from a technical perspective. Blocking you, or altering your text is pretty much the same thing, as your intended message doesn't get trough (altering is actually worse I think, because it's saying what they want you to say). This would be especially bad if you encrypt, because that would make it impossible to use encryption at all.
As a side note, encryption would also require you to have a way to set it up, so it's not even an option for a majority of communications. If only because most people simply wouldn't even know how, leaving it to only a very small group. But that's besides the point.
