* LEDs other than a small power indicator and disk activity * Glowing peripherals * Case windows * Black PCBs (100% pointless and green is generally cheaper) * Non-free software * Keyboard colors other than gray, black or beige. * Hardware packaged in anything but plain brown boxes with a black-on-white label that lists the specifications. * 16:9 and wider monitors * Glossy monitors * Non-ECC RAM
Most of these have solid arguments, not just subjective taste. OP is 100% right. >* Case windows Increased EMI. Increased acoustic noise. >* Black PCBs Pointless. Does not improve function. Cheaper. >* Non-free software Freedom is better than no freedom. >* Hardware packaged in anything but plain brown boxes with a black-on-white label that lists the specifications. Colored packaging is pointless, does not improve functionality, requires more chemicals. >16:9 and wider monitors The human field of vision is circular up to mid-peripheral vision. 1:1 is objectively the best aspect ratio. > Glossy monitors Proven to increase the likelihood of headaches. >Non-ECC RAM ECC RAM is more reliable at little extra cost. If everything was ECC, the price differences would evaporate due to economies of scale.

That doesn't invalidate it

Black PCB isn't always more expensive and green isn't always the cheapest. Having colors for things can make it easier to buy peripherals that fit with the rest of your decor. This isn't critical, but having a nice looking workspace is beneficial for sure.
You're pretty bang on with the rest of the list. Normies outnumber us by orders of magnitude though so you'll just have to suffer through the childish nonsense marketed at them.

Programmers should start a real union and fight against the open office meme. It is counterproductive and destroys all focus. We should have isolation booths with brain wave generators piped in for maximum focus, not this fit-inducing madness.
At my previous job we all got together and made management pay for separator walls. We had to organize everything ourselves and we encountered some issues with sound proofing but in the end it worked great.

>more than 128mb vram >tempered glass side panel >sleeved cables >mice with more than 3 buttons >matx >plastic shrouds on mobos
>tempered glass side panel Yes. It's objectively inferior to stainless steel with noise dampening.

>* Black PCBs Pointless. Does not improve function. Cheaper. So don't buy it then? >but it should be ILLEGAL! I don't like that people are buying things they like, it upsets me greatly!

Free software 99% of the time means "I'm a programmer, I do what I want with my own code, and you're free to go fuck yourself if you don't like it". Software developed in a corporate environment by people who get paid for it are updated more frequently, and aren't arbitrarily abandoned for random intervals.
The development and support cycle of FOSS is way too unreliable for my taste.

Black PCBs are pretty noice in general.
Angel Jenkins
I agree, black PCBs fit with well with my black case. Green is just too jarring of a difference.
