Manual tiling like i3, bspwm or herbstluftwm use is overcomplicated. Every time you open a new window you need to tell your window manager exactly where to place them, usually by telling it whether it should split the currently selected window horizontally or vertically and if you want to change layouts for already open windows it's a mess.
With dynamic tiling like dwm, awesome or xmonad(I believe) use the windows automatically tile into predefined layouts. This makes tiling quick and easy. You can also switch between layouts on the fly.
