Because apparently some retards have forum notifications set up and they will get notifications for year old dead threads and that makes them mad it seems. That and bullshit 'forum culture'.

forum software would archive threads after sometime to optimise for memory access. now that hardware and memory is cheap, it doesn't really matter anymore
