yes, precisely i don't use snapchat cause i don't want to meet anyone.

I only use Facebook to participate in a few local car/track/racing communities (full of 30-40 yo boomers) and to buy used tech. I only got like 8 "friends".

Kind of annoyed that I have to keep my Faceshit account running, but some of my dearest friends use only that for texts. And I care more about chatting with them across the ocean than killing my FB account. Luckily with Rambox and Messenger, you don't need to go to FB itself.

Otherwise, fuck it all. Social media is an utterly failed experiment, and I can't wait for it to die quietly.

It's exactly the opposite. Snapchat is the most impersonal form of communication, and requires the least amount of effort from it's users. If someone isn't willing to text or call you, they're not worth speaking to.

I created fediverse account on mastodon. Posted bunch of dumb shit. Read some dumb shit other people posted. And stopped loging in soon after.

I only use discord because it's pseudo anonymous and I like the way it's structured a lot more than twitter, specifically how you can only see someone's posts if you're a member of the same server but I'll only use it through my browser because it is a botnet. Ideally I'd just stick to irc but most people don't even know what it is anymore. Nothing irks me more than the idea of someone just knowing my name and being able to instantly know a ton of shit about me.

Only social media I am on the fence about actually using is linkedin because job recruiters will hit you up with actual job offers. The downside is there is shady people on it and they rape your personal data just like everybody else.

I would like Snapchat if it wasn't for the SnapScore feature and the Best Friends feature. No one has ever said anything to me, but I always feel so bad for myself when I notice how low my score is, or how every person I talk to would be instantly labeled as my "Best Friend" because I never talk to more than 6 people every month. Worse, other people can see if they are one of your "Best Friends" even if you aren't one of theirs -- imagine how laughable it is for that fucking stupid smirky face to come up next to someone's name after they only send you three snaps... For the reasons you described SC is the only social media I keep, but for these reasons I still try to use it as sparsely as possible. I have to refrain from sending anyone more than three snaps in a week so they don't become my "Best Friend" (my list is typically empty so it's easier for anyone to get in) and hope they don't notice my meager SnapScore. I've considered making six alts and spamming snaps between them and my main acct to pump up my main acct's SnapScore and keep my Best Friends list full, but I don't use the program enough to warrant doing this, yet.

No, we aren't. The local Unix users group (those still exist) that I attended has been attracting a lot of younger members lately. I myself am 18 going on 19 and none of my friends are using social media anymore outside of Telegram. Modern social media is trash that's made for low IQ thots and niggers. I tried Snapchat once because my gf asked and I dropped it in a day because the interface and messaging systems are ass backwards.

Zoomers are turning their backs on social media (theguardian.com/society/2018/aug/29/teens-desert-social-media), but I don't know if they're just not using it for privacy reasons or because they're using cool platforms they're grandparents aren't on. I have noticed a lot of young people on IRC these days I guess.

1. You don't have to log in: not daily, not ever
2. You don't have to read or comment on anything

But when some guy or qt or whatever asks, instead of being a fucking autist and stammering about botnets, you can just have them search you up.

Again, you don't even have to stay logged in. Just sit back and let FB email you about any events or private messages. You can then log in (in incognito mode if you're that autistic) and reply.

Also, a lot of tech people seem to enjoy Twitter, but I literally do not get it. It just seems like a place people with unwarranted self importance go to spew their shit opinions at other people's shit opinions, I understood the novelty at first when I was tweeting at people I knew on real life but it wore off.

I've been using the fediverse a bit - specifically, my own Pleroma instance. It's nice to be able to interact with lots of interesting people publicly while still controlling your slice of the platform you use. It's pretty okay.
Of course, I also use IRC and XMPP but I'm not sure I'd really call those social media - not enough javascript involved, ha-ha.

I use WhatsApp because everyone I know does, its worth it but that's me. Don't just sign up for random accounts, use what your in real life friends, classmates, coworkers, and family use. Only to communicate with them, their friends and family. Don't be political, be someone people don't mute/block instead.

Depends what you want out of it and what your situation is. Twitter is now the fastest way to get news, updates, etc. Reporters post to Twitter before publishing, websites and organizations do the same usually. So I use Twitter to stay informed.
I only have a Facebook because some websites and technology require it. My University also uses it. But it's fairly barren and mostly unused.
It's the beginning of the end for instagram. Their technology has been surpassed by others and it was too niche to last long term to begin with.
I have no experience with Snapchat.

If your post is more about being more social in general, then I would advise against it and instead discover hobbies and passions first then use social media to be social in these areas.

If you've never used it let me give you the rundown:
>Snap stories are public snaps that all your friends can see. 30% of the time they're just random mudane shit posted for the entire purpose of "Hey I exist give me attention please" and the other 70% of the time they're unintelligible videos of your drunk friends in a club wanting to show you how cool and high social status they are
>Snapchat filters: There's a bunch of face filters such as the puppy ears and nose one that you've probably seen a bunch of thots using. As well as adding quirky accessories to your face ALL of them smooth your skin, contour your face, shape your eyes etc. Basically every woman who uses snapchat uses filters in every single picture because they're so insecure about how they actually look. (I have a 8/10 female friend who's admitted to me that she hasn't posted an unfiltered picture of herself in over 2 years)
>Snap streaks are a count of how many days you and another person have messaged each other. If you don't send a snap to that person on one day, the streak resets. My teenage brother wastes like 15 minutes every day just sending pictures of his blank face to 20+ people just to keep up his 300+ day streaks with them.

Also I should add that the whole UI is unintuitive as fuck and involves randomly swiping and holding down on things to reveal menus you would have no idea were there.
It's basically impossible to use unless you get someone else to show you how, which legitimately feels like it's done on purpose so that 14 year old thots can feel rebellious using an app that their parents would never be able to figure out.
