It wont turn on

Legit thing?
9/10 times it's a dead power supply. if not it is usually motherboard. But always worth getting yourself a power supply tester to confirm it is not your power supply:

If I put 2 sticks of ram in my computer I get a beep code saying I don't have ram. If I put in either one in either of my two slots it starts up. How do I fix this. It started recently

How do I install Microsoft Office click to run using SCCM?

What performance impact would it have if i'd use ssl certs with gcm and ctr or hmac and which gives me better security in the long term so i won't be needing to change cipher suites for my certificates and stuff

Okay read the manual and make sure you are aware of what configuration is needed for a dual-channel config. Confirm you have that correct.

Another thing you have to know is the clock rates could be different. If they are different your computer won't boot.

Don't use the damn SCCM - you have a key and take it through telephone activation. Activate it using the telephone hotline, but I can assist you in skipping a few extra steps. Basically you're going to end up calling the number which then sends you a text to this link here:

m.vivr.io/UAJdGAL

This link is the Microsoft Office Activation wizard that allows you to activate any volume license you may have. Input your numbers and it will give you the answer numbers. Always set the installation number to 1 when asked.

I've had these two sticks in for a couple years now. This problem started recently

I would need to spend some time researching that. Sorry user.

Windows 7 install gives me bsod on as020nr.

CMOS reset. unplug power, pull battery, hold power button for 15 seconds

if this doesnt fix it, either ram or board is bork, probably board.

Sticks of RAM can go bad. Still, doesn't hurt to make sure you have it in the right slots with your motherboard manual. It may work. Most likely not. But always worth a shot.

i bought one of the new rtx 2080s and some times games just freeze up, like dota 2 or wow, for like 10s of seconds of time before it eventually unlocks. like just the game, cause i can alt tab and shit, and even though the "program stopped responding, do you wanna wait or close it" thing comes up, i can have it wait and eventually it will come back. however it will also have degraded performance for awhile after it happens, until i restart the game maybe. or maybe it actually will go away if i give it enough time, never really tried to wait i dont think.

anyway, does this sound like hardware or software issue to you? im guessing software, and i too am a fairly experienced computer guy, but more opinions are always great.

thanks m8.

what is the code on BSOD?

Hey guy, that link associates with the microsoft account you signed into to generate that link.

Hope it was a burner.

Have fun.

Use windows 10 instead, use your win7 key to activate 10. 7 is depreciated garbage.

Backup your shit and reload your OS. That is almost certainly a driver issue but spending countless hours tracking down which one is a huge pain and waste of time.

See if you know anything about this.
So I bought a new Legion Y530 and the battery shows that it's charging, but it's staying at the same percentage. And it won't start without being plugged in

Also the other issue is if I enter any game, it automatically shuts off. It's not from the heat so is it battery/charger related or just software related?

Are you too stupid for EE?

>i too am a fairly experienced computer guy
>i bought one of the new rtx 2080s

Attached: 061.jpg (500x500, 33K)

Yeah I'm going on the thought it must be a software issue. Try updating your .net framework and stick to the recommended Nvidia WHQL drivers with the symbol next to it. If that doesn't work go with an older driver.

>I'm 29 now with a bachelors of management of information systems
are you me?

Either charger or motherboard is bad

probably charger,

you get that link calling the activation wizard. It is not associated with any account.

Booh

kek you go ahead and think what you want then i guess.

Hm. What happenes hwen you remove the battery and you have it charging? Does it stop your gaming?

yeah i figured. sucks being lazy. thanks senpaitachi

I've unfortunately already tried that so I guess I might just be fucked. I'll try to find some cheap ram to try that before worrying about a new board. Thanks m8
I've tried them both ways in the slots.

bad battery would cause fault sooner than load. load only failure indicates bad charger or motherboard.

>If they are different your computer won't boot.
Incorrect. normies stay off my board.

Not OP but i am helping him since i do the same thing and its amusing me atm, this made me kek too.

the dimms will slow to what ever the slowest dimm is

Yeah new RAM then.

When you have different clock rates you assume the motherboard developer had compensated for differences in clock rates. Why would you assume this? You're pretty much going to stick to the same numbers regardless. Anyway it's pretty much confirmed the person needs a new stick of RAM

Not sure if a windows 10 problem or of my mobo is just fucked but I cant get a mic to work at all, it shows up in Windows but there's just no sound coming through, tried fresh install and installing different drivers but shit just doesn't work, even tried a usb dac but that doesn't work either

Sometimes my computer freezes when I open a file, even if it's from a SSD. It's only the app that freezes, so if I attach an image in Chrome, sometimes it lags for a few seconds and I can't do anything in Chrome. Same for other applications.

Also sometimes my computer shuts off when gaming even if it's not a very demanding game. It doesn't BSOD or anything. Sometimes it'll give me the "overclocking failed" in the BIOS. It's not overheating, and it's not the power supply (Corsair RM1000i, it also did it with a XFX 850W), and it's not the RAM (I ran memtest and it didn't report any errors after 2 passes). Likewise, burn in tests with SuperPi and furmark didn't cause it to crash. It does this even at stock clocks.

Attached: speccy.png (690x608, 47K)

Yep, still shuts down. Also tried other charger, same result.

>7 is depreciated garbage
found the goyim

Make sure you're plugging it into the right port one. If it is a USB. Make sure you have the drivers installed by the manufacturer. Then open your sound settings and test your microphone and set it as default.

Thought about this as well. Could it be that it's too weak and the laptop needs more? 135W btw

install gentoo

Remove the overclock. A lot of people attempt overclocking and simply just causes instability issues. this is one of those examples.

So then we know it is not an issue with the battery. Is there anything the Event Viewer will tell you before the full critical turn off?

I don't have an issue with Windows 7. Some people need the stability over Windows 10 forced installations where there is no WSUS server in the domain. Makes perfect sense to have Windows 7 sometimes.

There is nothing that you can do on that laptop that would make it turn off unless there is something wrong.

Can confirm using right port, Windows picks up that there's a mic connected but no sound comes through, the dac I got was just a cheap generic one and the audio out on it works so I assumed the mic in would as well

Hm. Interestingly enough, you can use a speaker to use it as a mic. To confirm if it is your mic or the port... take another mic (or even a speaker) and plug it directly into the mic port. If it is a speaker just talk into the speaker right up close and do so a bit louder than you would. If you get bars that indicate it's picking up sound then you know it's not your port but the mic having issues.

Before anyone comes at me for this, sometimes you have to be resourceful and you wouldn't have 2 microphones lying around. Considering that a speaker is fundamentally also a microphone, it works both ways. Give it a whack and let me know.

No. But when I boot it after it goes into automatic repair loop and blue screen until I reinstall the OS

Is that laptop designed for Windows 10 or 7? How long have you been experiencing these issues?

why the fuck won't my custom kernel start Xorg :((

Can't help you here. Believe it or not most people who have computer issues aren't running Linux. 99% of people are unable to run anything. Best bet is to check forums to give you results on most Linux issues as there is often a lot of documentation for this.

wow well thank you for the good faith response but I didn't actually expect anything serious. Just wanted to throw whatever Linux problem I was currently having into the thread for fun. I have an idea of the documentation I need to skim through too.

I'd expect most people with computer issues use GNU/Linux though just the only ones dumb enough to pay someone else to fix them are Windows users.

Came preinstalled with Windows 10. Worked fine 1 week, put it in sleep mode and went directly into boot loop when I turned it on. Been fucking around to fix it for one month almost.

Worth mentioning that 2 repair centers don't have a clue what the fuck is wrong with it. Also can't return it as I bought it in the US right before coming home so I'm fucked.

That explains so much Fml, not why my mic isn't working but why I can hear it when I speak into my headphone but not the microphone, can't confirm if I turn on the "listen in" option or whatever it's called and speak really loud into the speaker it picks it up slightly, but tried to record any of it just results in very loud static and maybe the faintest hint of my voice in the back

I mean take for example people who are in a profession. People who make shit tons of money running some accounting firm or engineering this or that. They just aren't focused on computers. They bill out a huge amount per hour and it makes sense to pay a guy a couple of hours (roughly between 180-250 bucks) to fix their computer problems. I wouldn't call them dumb. There are just some things that people can and cannot do. Like I can't fix my car for shit. I don't know anything about cars but I know a lot about computers. So I do my computer work and get my car fixed with the money I make from computer work. Same thing.

Can confirm* not can't

Nah.
Anyone who uses something other than GNU/Linux is dumb. This is the truth.

Ah then we know your port is working properly. Plug your mic in and make sure you have this option set to off in the microphone settings.

If you're giving anonymous advise on a korean BBQ eating contest image posting forum the best solution is the easiest one and win10 is the simplest windows to install ever.

Yup definitely off, still no sound coming through though unless I speak through the speaker, I've tried to different mics, they were working at one point but one day just stopped, what are the chances that I just have 2 broken mics?

Is there anyway to change Windows 32-bit into 64-bit? I heard that you need to clean install to do it, but I'm just trying to see if there's a way to do it without having to clean install.

it is possible. The other option is an attempted workaround where you get one of these:

amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8/ref=zg_bs_3015427011_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MB414NPAZJ3ZT3692DCQ

Also check to see if you have ports in the front as well as the back of your computer for a different port to try.

Clean install buddy. Sorry. Yeah unfortunately a 32-bit installation is a fundamental change to a 64 bit. It requires a clean install. But also just as a thought, if you don't want to lose your data just buy yourself a new SSD to install your new 64-bit OS on.

Actually I know the mic isn't broken because I use it on discord with my phone so it's not that, and I have a generic ebay version of one of those that doesn't give me and mic sound either

Alright. Thanks for the help, take care.

HOW THE FUCK did you acquire that MS Activation link? I've been looking for it to activate 80 Windows 10 and Office 2013 for my clients but the MS link that I found online expired. I had to activate them through the automated voice messaging bot and that was a pain in the ass.

Okay. Do you have multiple ports for your microphone? Like I know most towers have a front port as well as one in the back. Have you tried both?

IF you call the activation telephone number on a smart phone, it will request if you want them to send you a link via text. That is the link you receive. I looked close and saw that it was a static link that auto-overrides for civilian activation (no microsoft account) very very useful.

jews, and the fbi are using porn to brain wash me and spy on me, what do?

how do I extract the UEFI image for a Lenovo G575 so that I can use flashrom to update the image directly using a SOIC clip instead of going through the Windows installer (can't do this, because image on flash is corrupt, and the emergency flash procedure doesn't work either), doesn't seem to be a valid image if I just extract it from the official file, it's like the InsydeH2O util bundled with the firmware update has to convert it to something that can be used - but this is impossible if the machine doesn't boot.

Basically I just want a dump of the 2MB UEFI image for a G575 (4383) so I can use a SOIC clip to update the UEFI directly.

Yeah I've tried both ports and they give the same result

Use incogneto mode.

Okay... what are you trying to do? It sounds like you are in the middle of a current solution, what is the initial problem?

So when you open the microphone utility you see green bars or no green bars when you talk to it? Is your mic set to mute? Is there a button on the mic that can disable the microphone?

I do recall that part about the request when talking to the automated voice messaging system. The bot claimed that it sent the link to me but I've never gotten it. I recalled several times over the span of two weeks with no luck. My co-workers tried to make the request but failed too.

Maybe that was just a bad week/month... eh I don't have to worry about activation anymore though lol

Mic is definitely not muted, screaming into microphone gives no green bars, screaming into headphone on same line as the microphone gives green bars

Yeah haha I do know it works though.

I think I know what is happening then... is the microphone and speaker sharing the same port where it has 3 bars on the aux? If so it is a TRRS and it specifically requires a more modern Aux like what a phone has for you. There do exist adapters to take a microphone jack + aux jack to make it into one of these TRRS AUX

Attached: file.png (726x522, 149K)

Here is a link for turning a regular microphone/headphone port into a single TRRS aux.

amazon.com/KINGTOP-Headset-Splitter-Computer-Version/dp/B01I3A47KM?keywords=trrs adapter&qid=1540778633&sr=8-13&ref=sr_1_13

Here is documentation so you can see what I mean

Attached: file.png (1000x1000, 237K)

The headphones I'm using do indeed have 3 bars. I already have one of those connectors (see image) which doesn't seem so fix anything

Attached: received_2189682324636978.jpg (390x526, 15K)

Make sure you're plugging in that adapter properly then. If still no work then it's an issue with the adapter.

>Okay... what are you trying to do? It sounds like you are in the middle of a current solution, what is the initial problem?
Someone gave me a laptop which wouldn't POST at all, tried removing HDD, RAM, etc, etc to listen for beeps, still no POST. Figure that UEFI shat the bed somehow, and that the only way forward is to use flashrom and a SOIC clip to try updating the UEFI without the Windows tools to do it.

Problem is, a: the firmware image seems to be slightly larger than the capacity of the chip (2MB) that holds the UEFI once extracted from the file downloaded from Lenovo - though coincidentally it matches the size of the UEFI plus 512K which is the size of the embedded controller flash chip. It's not two seperate files though.

and b: it doesn't look lile I can just connect up a SOIC clip and flash it directly because it might be encrypted, and may need the InsydeH20 program that comes bundled with the firmware update to decrypt - but that will only work on a machine with an InsydeH20 UEFI.

There are tools out there which can read the UEFI image and parse it into various chunks (i'm thinking of Andy's Phoenix/Insyde tool), but the result is way bigger than 2MB, and fuck knows what to do with it once it's been unpacked and decrypted.

Windows 10 laptop, frequent BSOD with "page fault in nonpaged area"

You're absofuckinglutely right. I plugged in the adapter and tried blowing into the mic really loud and there was a little bit of sound, but speaking I couldn't hear my voice, was fucking around with the adapter like you do with a pair of earphones where both ears work only if you hold it at the right angle and voila I could hear my voice loud and cloud although it's hard to keep the cable that way for longer than half a second. Thankyou so much my dude I'll order a new cable

Wait, if it's not POST then why would UEFI be a thing? Correct me if I'm wrong but POST is the testing that is done to check that the hardware is running fine before it even attempts reading from a hard drive either through Legacy or UEFI. Regardless if on Legacy or UEFI it should still at least pass post and tell you it can't find a drive to boot to. if you are not there then there is an issue with something hardware related. Put one of these babies in and listen for beeps. if no beep it has not enough power to output a beep or your looking at a motherboard failure. Its at that point I would just get a new board as opposed to doing everything you are trying to do well beyond my pay grade.

Attached: file.png (1200x950, 309K)

oops forgot the picture of the 'baby'.

Check your event logs before the fatal crash. Often times it will tell you what program or dll is erroring out and gives you a hint for what you need to fix.

Awe man great to hear that bro. Glad someone's shit got fixed in here and it's not just people trolling thankfully.

Got a btc wallet or accept any other crypto so I can send you something as a thanks?

should i buy thinkpad?

Oh man I mean, I do have a paypal if you would like to donate thank you.

My date/time format won't stay the same. When I log off and back in. It'll revert back to month day year when I need it as day month year for excel.

Yes, it's a domain computer but I've tested two other laptops and they keep the options when I log off and log in.

You mean the formatting in excel and not your clock right? Obviously if it were excel it is just an issue with Excel. I do know Excel can give you some really glitchy ass crap when it comes to formatting. Yet the other computers don't have this issue and are also on the domain?

I want a work station laptop but don't know what I should buy. All I know is VIRL is a bitch and so is blender as unrelated as they are. I have a desktop but I travel a decent amount.

It's the system clock as well. It keeps reverting back. Yes both computers don't have the same issues and are on the domain

What's the best backup solution for an Enterprise environment? This is a trick question.

Okay. Are you going to be moving around with it a lot?
Is weight an issue?
Do you require a lot of 3d processing needing a dedicated video card?
Is aesthetics important to you?
What is your price range?

May be a privacy setting is turned off. Go to settings -> Privacy -> App Permissions -> Location -> Location service set to On. make sure your date/time and time zone is set to automatic and you should be good to go.

i think my computer has a virus

Heh. Yeah it depends on how big your enterprise is. Generally I recommend a server. For enterprise you're going to have multiple servers with redundancy and with a load balancer. This requires some advanced technical knowledge that is beyond my pay grade to assist you further.

I've always wanted to mess around with load balancers but clients like this are unfortunately out of my reach 'yet'. But maybe someday.

I'll check that out tomorrow. Thanks user. Other than that, is there any other things i could check out?

Classic!
Run malwarebytes.
Then install/run Adware cleaner
Install/run Avast and run the full cleaner
Then ccleaner/ install and run.

Uninstall all the apps and your computer will be clean. If still unclean then you may have a rootkit requiring you to perform a system refresh. (this removes apps downloaded but at least keeps your documents. will ahve to reinstall programs)

From here it would be registry edits. I don't have the exact settings or keys memorized but this is found through google searches

>ccleaner

Attached: IMG_4083.jpg (309x334, 27K)

Keep in mind the fixes that I suggest are for general computer users. Ccleaner does a good job getting rid of junk and residual files that have been installed. You're under the understanding with what the situation is amongst the tech community and people who are a lot more tech savvy being very doubtful of CCleaner due to it removing a large swath of residual files without question, as well as data mining. This can cause harm to a computer to someone who is extremely savvy. People who are very concerned about privacy also would not use Windows. This is for the general user. My recommendation? Just backup your registry before you clean it out. Overall it works well, and you will be uninstalling it later because you don't really need it.

Tower computer randomly shuts off under certain loads, for game 1 but not for game 2 etc. power and mother look ok
