Why have you librebooted/corebooted you thinkpad yet?

Attached: image.jpg (2011x2242, 1.96M)

Hi there, got myself a t450s and a Thinkpad Pro Dock. I installed Kubuntu on the Laptop and connected the Dock via DVI-D to my monitor. Thing is, the maximum resolution I can set for the monitor is 1920x1200 while it's a 2560x1440 display. Going by the dock description, the Display Port and DVI share the same connection as you can only use only one at a time. By that logic, it shouldn't be a problem of the dock itself and the cable used, correct?
If that's the case though, how do I go on about setting the correct resolution for the external monitor?

What do u think about ThinkPad Edge E480, Edge E580 and L380?

I don't have an rpi or spi clip.

I want to fall for the meme, was thinking on buying an X220 or T420 from ebay

I have an rpi but i dont know what other tools i have to get or where to get them. Im also too scared about bricking mine desu

>ThinkPad Edge E480
trash
>Edge E580
garbage
>L380
junk

what's your average cpu temp? I just got this new t440s and it stays consistently around 50-60c, that seems a bit high, or is that pretty normal?

>I want to fall for the meme, was thinking on buying an X220 or T420 from ebay
I fell for x220 meme and got a x220t and I like it a lot. Only complaint is battery. I have an ips screen though so I don't know how bad the TN panels truly are.

Depends on fan profile, load etc. 60c is nothing in full load but high for idle

Anyone here with some experience with the Precision 7720? If so how are the keyboard and nipple compared with thinkpads?

Update, generated a new modeline via cvt and added it via xrandr, but when setting the new resolution the external monitor stops displaying anything, with the notification that a proper 2560x1440@60 mode needs to be set. Any ideas?

Just bought a T450s with FHD IPS, i5, 8GB RAM, 240 GB SSD for 258€. Did I do good?

Does anyone know where to buy replacement caps for the W541 (W540,T540p) TrackPoint?

I tried amazon and got these shit "low profile" caps that fit, but went in too low. Searching on ebay didn't help too much either.

I've felt for it hook, line and sinker. Bought a t420 and a x220, put 16gig of RAM and ssd's on them. I couldn't be happier. I've paid 330 yuro dollars for them with the upgrades.

What the hell do you even need 16gb of RAM for?

Porn, anime, and anime porn

I don't have the equipment and I don't know how. I'd like to do it though.

I have an x200 tablet with a dead battery. Should I stick to the original Lenovo batteries for a replacement or are there some chink ones Jow Forums would recommend?

I dont even think that would take up 4gb

I planned to buy a T420 but it turns out the screens in those are terrible. There was a hardware mod that let you install even a 1080p scren if you wanted but the creator stopped selling the kit to do it. So now I have three options:
>T420 with a lousy screen that I replace with the following panel: Chimei Innolux N140FGE-LA2 (supposedly at the same time lousy and the best of the ones available for the T420)
>A maxed-out T410
>Another laptop with a classic keyboard (it's a must for me)

What do you suggest?

Just buy a T430

What's the cheapest business-class 6-core you can get nowadays? Thinkpad P52? Need that shit for VM management in the field

And there's no 6-core with USB-C charging, right? You need to get some fucking propriety plug...

Attached: thinkpad autist.png (2184x1344, 139K)

Yo, boys, is HP total garbage? Is Acer any good? I would ask the same for lenovo, but I am not touching a lenovo that isn't a thinkpad ever again.

6 core laptops are basically brand new so yes P52 or X1 extreme are your choices pretty much from lenovo, proprietary plug is there because usb-c supports only up to 100w of power and the 6 core + dgpu configuration exceed that, I think they ship with 135w ac brick.

HP business stuff is aight. Acer is straight-up trash though.

Are there any thinkpads with decent screens that can be found for relatively cheap? I have a t420. Good laptop, but the display really is absolute trash. My criteria for a “good screen” is:
>at least 1920x1080
>good enough color reproduction for chink cartoons

Attached: image.jpg (624x624, 168K)

T440p. You can mod the trackpad from the T450 to make it less shit. Can quad-core mod. Can 1080p IPS.

Linux Mint's file manager likes to leak memory

user who has the problem nvidia/intel on his w540 here,
so...problem still here, but now that i have installed linux on dualboot i think it will be possible to do something

Attached: 2018-11-01-222536_1920x1080_scrot.png (1920x1080, 1.36M)

b-but the keyboard is so good on the t420

what was the last Dell with a keyboard like that?

You can mod the t420 keyboard in the t430 i think

>the keyboard is so good on the t420
You can mod the old keyboard on very easily.
>what was the last Dell with a keyboard like that?
Lattitude E6410, IIRC.

Thoughts on the tablets? What about the tab 2 or the helix?

Attached: Screenshot_2018-11-01-16-38-47.png (1440x2560, 702K)

they all fucking suck

Anything with a 6-core and no dGPU? I know there's no Thinkpad like that but maybe other brands do?

formerly good

is there any noticeable difference between the t430 and the s model other then the size? I have an x220 but I'm tired of the resolution

I want the newest possible thinkpad for the real business experience.

which model is that? Its hard the tell the year make of these models, desu

T480
or
T480S if you need to carry it around a lot
or
Latest x1 Carbon if you wanna need to carry it around a fucking lot

Not that I'm aware of, I've looked through notebookcheck and all 6 core laptops have some sort of dgpu, mac pro can charge through thunderbolt if it's that important to you kek.

is the 470 the model before that?

Yes but don't even consider those, 480 has quad cores 470 has dual cores.

Eugh, I can buy a dozen chinkpads and shitty slim tip chargers for the money I'd pay a macbook

Has anyone bought anything from 51nb?

Bought an x220. What do I do now?

use it

gentoo gentoo gentoo

Can't decide between a T420 and W520. Are the screens in T420 really so terrible? Is W520 really so huge? What should I choose, Jow Forums?

let's say I had a momentary lapse in judgment and went and ordered a new X1 ~~~extreme xD~~~. how bad of a financial decision would this be? And where are the autist reviews? Everywhere shills saying it's the best laptop to ever grace the earth but I know that's not true, because it's not a t60.

Attached: cool.png (402x344, 54K)

Is 950 a fair price for a new T540p, still in box? Full specs are, i7 4600mq, 3K 2880x1620, 512gb ssd, nvidia quadro k2100m, 16gb ddr3

It is the best laptop to ever grace the earth, user. You're fine.

what's a good thinkpad for my mom and dad who will really only use it for lightroom, streaming soccer games and looking at emails?
a pretty big HDD is probably necessary since they cant into using external hard drives

Have you gotten your T580(c) FEMgineering BIOS(tm) yet, /tpg/?

Not sure if this is exactly thinkpad related but can someone recommend a keyboard (name/model) with a trackpoint in the middle? Looking for something like pic related but it's got chiclet keys and I'm looking for something like the keys of a T420. Anyone also know if the keys on the keyboard will be mapped correctly if the fn and ctrl keys were already swapped in the bios?

Attached: a.jpg (1000x827, 94K)

IBM had something like that and you can buy them on ebay, but they're kind of expensive. At their pricepoint you're better off with Unicomp's EnduraPro. It's a Model M with a TrackPoint. What's not to love?

(There's also the M13, but that's rare and expensive as hell).

Attached: 0ldpEM2.jpg (3965x1496, 955K)

Either or a Tex Yoda

T440 with 1080p IPS screen is probably a safe choice.

>Tex Yoda
Cherry MX garbage.

EnduroPro is shit: the trackpoint does not feel like a trackpoint, but a shitty little joystick. Also doesn't have the center button.

At least the typing is good. Plus you're at a desktop and probably better off using an actual mouse 90% of the time anyway.

IBM spacesaver II

Attached: dims.jpg (640x473, 41K)

You'd be better off just grabbing a Classic or Spacesaver M then. Or if you really want a trackpoint, try one of the SK-8845 knockoffs floating around out there. I hear they're shit too.

pls respond

Attached: flat,1000x1000,075,f.jpg (1000x750, 87K)

thanks senpai

What exactly is this, is there a t480s version? How safe is this anyway?

Some Redditor bought a new/open box T580 on eBay that had an engineering BIOS on it.
He doxxed the seller, outed him as some Lenovo marketing executive, bitched at eBay and tried to get the seller banned, dumped the BIOS, tried to flash a stock T580 BIOS and failed, continued to bitch some more and is now probably still bitching.
Still, we got a working T580 engineering BIOS with a fuckton of options that would never be available on a retail model.

Redditors are such massive faggots.

Jesus, what a faggot

I'm not a fag neither a lunatic.

imagine getting an old clunky laptop when you could get a macbook or similar ultrabook

Attached: devil-pepe.jpg (396x482, 28K)

I got a similarly spec'd macbook pro for the same price
Macbook wasn't new though so it might be worth it

That's a very cute pepe, user.

>EnduroPro is shit: the trackpoint does not feel like a trackpoint, but a shitty little joystick. Also doesn't have the center button.
this, unfortunately.

>At least the typing is good. Plus you're at a desktop and probably better off using an actual mouse 90% of the time anyway.
Then why the hell would you bother getting a stick version at all? Poster obviously wanted a trackpoint.

Except it's cheaper, more durable and more useful than your regular mactrash.

Just bought the FHD mod kit for my T420 off ebay.
Did I fuck up?
ebay.com/itm/372318133135

success rate is pretty good for that kit. any problems people reported were either with quad core t430's or installing counterfeit panels

t. 1080p ips t420 haver

Well it's in gods hands now

Search for ThinkPad SK 8835

I need a charger for my x220 (it shipped with some crappy chink charger that only charges when the laptop is in sleep mode/shutdown)
is a 65W 20V charger alright or should I be getting something else?

Forgot pic

Do you use any peripherals?

not at the moment. I might buy a wireless mini mouse later on but the chances of that are pretty slim.

You'll be fine

Thank you very much user!

Attached: 1502327993889.png (502x590, 689K)

For me, it's the T60P.

Attached: 1538837214845.jpg (845x1000, 622K)

Manjaro Budgie?

got a t440p for free, it’s missing the clit mouse, has a 1366x768 screen, and the trackpad sticks a little, probably needs a cleaning. What am I in for with a display replacement to 1080p ips panel?

post results if you're successful

Would a Thinkpad T400 with out a screen work still? I will be setting up a screen reader so I can be used by blind. Would doing this save battery life. Or would it have a screen requirement.

$2000 to spend on a laptop. Should I get the X1 Extreme?

Thx user. ;~; just got out of my coma. I'll probably meet the seller tomorrow. Hoping it's not just flushing nearly 1k down the drain

Attached: 1539477356914.png (860x1214, 1.27M)

How do I clean dick cheese off my ThinkPad's clit?

Attached: beta cuck shooter.png (592x459, 137K)

Are there any thinkpads with numpads and thunderbolt 1/2?

Attached: 01.jpg (1200x1600, 339K)

The new P series ones do.

>P series
neat, i like the specs.

>I should ask her if she wants to type on my keyboard
Fucking kek

yes it will still work fine. i've got a few thinkpads with broken/missing screens that i use as headless servers or just plug into a monitor when i need them
