Bullshit. Enlightenment can't run for 4 hours without crashing.

I haven't had a problem with it.

Why?

wangtard

Because it's one of the most underrated Linux desktops, right after TDE.

How so? Try to sell it to me. I'm genuinely curious as I never see it used.

enlightenment is such a great desktop. it deserves more attention

Dare you say... he should enlighten you?

Attached: Ixhefqz.gif (600x338, 455K)

I personally don't like it because I think it has too many animations and looks like shit but that's a matter of taste. The Enlightenment toolkit and the window manager are light on resources and extremely stable.

I'd rather sell you on TDE though, or more specifically, Q4OS. It's my go to Linux distro. Whether I run it from RAM or boot into an installation it's always fast, stable, lightweight, runs comfortably with half a GB of RAM. TDE is a KDE 3.5 fork and it's the absolute peak of Linux desktop computing. It looks and feels like Windows XP out of the box but it's built on top of Debian, which makes for a rock solid and compatible base system.

If you ever find yourself getting sick of ricing and you just wanna use your computer to get stuff done, then install Q4OS. It even has thumbnails in the Chromium file picker.

Different user here. I like Q4OS and TDE, I just wish it supported removing the title bar in Firefox. Unfortunately that option in Firefox's customize menu doesn't work yet.

Who is she? Tell me right now!

Nice to see you back, I haven't seen you here for a while.

So I see. Why the change to Debian? I think it's an awesome OS. I spent a lot of time with it and really enjoyed it before moving.

Whee! A desktarp thread! My favorite!@

I just got sick of the compile times. I will switch back to it once I get better hardware. in the mean time I will use debian because it always works and it has a massive repository. I also might switch to slackware when 15 comes out

First

Attached: Screen Shot 2018-11-01 at 6.02.40 PM.png (1440x900, 1.23M)

Compile times are the reason I don't move to Gentoo, and I just love Slackware. Objectively I think there is no reason not to move to Slackware 14.2. It is the only Linux OS I've been able to do everything in that I want to. It shouldn't be a problem for someone with your experience. Have you considered the -current branch? That has a lot more up to date software. I think, since it's slightly harder than stable, that it would give you the intellectual stimulation you need.

I just prefer using the stable version of an OS. the reason why I'm waiting for slackware 15 is because it will have plasma 5 and I used to hate plasma but now I'm really starting to like it ever since I tried it on gentoo and I'm also excited for it because it's guaranteed to not crash unlike the beginner distros

Oddly enough one of my first Linux distributions was Slackware or RedHat, I can't remember which. I'm pretty sure it was Slackware though, because I used tarballs before I used a package manager (rpm.)

What are the benefits of Slackware? No systemd is hardly a benefit anymore.

Packages are tarballs, basically.

that's great! nice to start with something good

I use Debian now though, for the convenience of the package manager and repos. This is my desktop

nice

>No systemd is hardly a benefit anymore.

I disagree, SysV is extremely reliable and stable, I have never once had a failed book in Slackware, which I can't say for Debian. For me the benefits of Slackware are user control over every aspect of the OS, a mature and knowledgeable community, absolute rock solid stability and a continual, low-level learning of Linux. But it depends what matters to you, it's all relative. If you enjoy your current Linux OS, there may be no reason to change.

OK, you may indeed find it exciting to move over. Maybe lurk on the LQ forums and post if you're curious. Would love to see you there.

I go there quite a bit but I never post

>If you enjoy your current Linux OS, there may be no reason to change.
Sadly, that's why I'm looking around in the first place.
I was thinking to switch to Fedora or Debian Sid, but I need time to realize what my best option is. Slackware -current looks like a decent choice too.

OK well, maybe you will feel like it at some point. I can guarantee you will find the level of communication far superior to here. I post there pretty much every day.

As with many things in Linux, testing things out for oneself is the only way. Move around, try the distros out and get involved in the communities. On the latter point, communities are somewhat underrated and, I find, the key to what makes using a Linux distro enjoyable and productive. I won't say any more than that, but anyone is welcome in the Slackare community as long as you are willing to do some research and reading. We won't hold your hand, but we will definitely help you at length if you can help yourself a little bit too.

who here home server master race?

I never knew you could run gnome on artix

Mine has two RAM slots, with one 8GB DIMM installed. I opened mine up in order to add a 2TB HDD for KVM and Steam storage.

Model number is 4LB42UT, if you want to check for yourself. Should have added that in the previous reply

thx, will look it up

also, you should populate the free slot with the same type of ram
your performance would benefit quite a bit from dual channel

Sure can. I feel artix is not represented enough here though. Runs pretty sweet, no hassle

>testing things out for oneself is the only way
Hell, I know. I only have one computer though and even if I'm still a student and my social life, or the lack of it, allow me to spend time on this shit, I rather not distro hop too much.

I value updated packages way more than stability, to be on the leading edge of technologies is also appealing (that's why I like Fedora, one of the first distro with btrfs, systemd and now flatpack). I like rolling release distro and minimal installation tho, so maybe Sid or Slackware -current are a better option.

just look at those embossed css tabs!!!!

If you have one machine and you are a student, I would definitely not recommend Slackware current or Sid. Remember that Sid, even though 'cool' to a lot of people on Jow Forums, *exists to break* so that fixes can be found for the next stable. To me it sounds like, if you are considering moving from Fedora and you like systemd, you should go for Debian testing. That way you will still get newer software, a little more stability, and be able to do the work you need as a student. Just remember to always back up your shit.

same slackware was my 1st and true love, but debian netinst these days for the simplicity and easy package management.

ive read probably 20 times now that debian testing is less stable than arch because they just dump packages after 10 days in unstable and never bugfix

Truth. I've used Debian testing repos before in the past for the updated packages, but far more bugs than stable.

what about just backporting your browser and others

Attached: Screenshot_1.png (858x291, 24K)

I really can't say since I haven't used either Debian testing or Arch at length. I used Debian stable for over a year and found it ample for my needs, but I've never really been into bleeding edge, I prefer productivity. Good luck in your quest, it seems like you have a good handle on things and need some more time to experiment.

Also it's actually 4.2GHz

enjoy your botnet

Came across this distro yesterday.
Close to perfection as it gets.

Attached: mx linux.png (1920x1080, 198K)

Nah, I'm not afraid if something breaks as long as I have the possibility to fix it. I already used unstable systems, in fact I'm currently using one.
That's why I rather use a rolling distro than something and I think I'll not be totally comfortable with fedora and its 6 months big updates.

try this distro bro.Very stable, blazing fast and you have gui tools to make images of and so forth. easy to fix

Just switched to Sierra on a hackintosh from Leopard on a PowerMac G4. OS X (macOS now, I guess?) hasn't really changed much in a decade from what I can see, but damn am I missing the old Spaces. I need to build myself some x86_64 TenFourFox, too.
