Are they worth it for laptops?

If you're not doing content creation, get a *nix operating system, otherwise use windows because its easier to install.

I'm programming but I want to try out the Mac environment. It has amazing font rendering and visual studio support.

>picking an OS for font
>visual studio

Yes and?

>Programming with poor font rendering
Ok, you suffer over there.

>he looks at the screen while programming

Mac OS is shit. There's barely any software for it and much of it's workflow defies logic simply to be "Different". Linux and Windows are all anyone really needs.

MacOS laptops are what you buy your gf(male).

What do you mean? You can still run visual studio like in windows only without shutting down before saving your files for updates, and with better fonts.

Visual studio for mac is actually xamarin studio, not the real one.
Also i use mac os on my t430s for iOS dev. Installing is not that difficult but not everything werks.

>T430
Wow so basically what are the requirements? That my CPU has been used in any macbook?

Gentoo has better font rendering now.

>There's barely any software for it
Most things that run on linux have a port for mac.

Mac is extremely lacking in options for specialized software for security and things like electronics, to name a few. It's the basic bitch of OS's.

> buy a lenovo T-series laptop.
> install ssd in primary slot.
> replace cd-rom with hd-caddy. install ssd in hd-caddy.
> install msata ssd.
> tri-boot with Mac OS Sierra, Win7, & Loonix(whatever flavor you prefer)

This is my setup and it's glorious. Hackintoshes are fun and useful if you need access to the MacOS ecosystem for work/fun/etc. You have to be selective on hardware though for the best experience. I own a T420 which happens to work 99%, internal wifi isn't supported & I haven't librebooted my thinkpad yet, so I'm running a MacOS supported usb wifi card in the meantime. If you only need MacOS for occasional goofing off, you could install a VM, which will work regardless of hardware. I mostly did it for the lulz. All my co-workers are Mac Fags and I wanted to troll them with my $100 laptop running their "Holy OS". There's nothing I need MacOS for that I can't do in VM, but it's a fun project.

This was meant for OP

you're a nigger

Lol as if

>specialised software
aka fringe case software nobody cares about

inb4 some mactoddler brainlet tries to argue that screen resolution = font rendering

Nice shoop

It's enough of an issue to convert me (a former hardcore macfag) to Linux. I use my computers for everything under the sun, I enjoy using computers. Apple has barely progressed from what it was 10 years ago, in terms of software availability. It's sort of sandwiched into a remote corner,Wangdows is more popular, and Linux has a more technically minded user base as well as the freedom to do pretty much anything. Mac OS immediately takes a hit with hardware and driver limitations, too.

So how does this matter when macOS supports visual studio and linux doesn't?

It does.

That's not visual studio and it doesn't have a quarter of the functionality of it.

Read the description. You can build it up to whatever you want through extensions. Linux users aren't going to want all that bloat as a default.

Hm nope I don't see the microsoft debugger or the tool that instantiates templates on the fly anywhere and yes I am currently using vscodium.

the rest of macos looks nice though

Depeneds on the laptop, I have an optimus one which isn't even supported by any hackintosh. Hell it's pretty shitty on windows and linux too though
