Okay friends let me be blunt, recc a Thinkpad for a complete normie who is switching from a mac. Pretend you work at the local computer shop and some dumbass has come in looking to buy and you want to convert them to the cult of thinkpad.

I literally need something to just take around and the hardest task I'm doing on it is multiple tabs + office processing software, what get?

>X1 Carbon (or older models): Has best screens (remember I'm a normie so I care about this), but I don't like how non-upgradeable it is and I've read cases about overheating.
>T480s (or older Ts models): Can work on it more than the X1, cheaper than the X1, can't think of many downsides here, it's definitely portable enough for me (but do I really need to pay the big bucks to upgrade past 1080 IPS though?) Could I get away with a T460s?
>X280: I've read it's a X1 Carbon in a mini package and they took a lot of the features away from the X270. 12" screen may be too small for me.

I've also been recc'd the A485 but once I spec it up it becomes the same price as a T480s and because I'm a normie I really don't know the difference between an intel/AMD, for my purposes I should be a-okay with an i5.

Can I use my Thinkpad screen as a RasPi display?

Any of these will do. Just let them type on it and compare the experience to that shitty Butterfly keyboard. That keyboard is what's making me give up my mac for a T480 -- it's literally within an ounce of the same weight of my 2015 rMBP. The screen is not as good, but getting work done is sooo much better than trying to write on that butterfly nonsense.

replying to the guy on the last thread, batteries for the x220 seem pretty expensive on ebay... are the 9 cell chink ones worth it?

post ur freedumbpads

Not possible, my T60 has Ati graphics

my condolences

I've had my hands on two Thinkpads for a while (T40 and T43) not even sure what to do with em at this point

where can I buy the 555BJ? I checked ebay and there are none available

i have the same, it's barely usable though. i use it only for browsing and tor.

Is the t420s soldered or socketed?

t420s is soldered. normal t420 is socketed

100 for a x230 i5-3320 with 6 cell, charger, 8 gb ram, with 240 gb m.2 and 320 hdd, I have a another 240 gb ssd that I was going to upgrade my x131e. But i figured for a 100 that its a good deal.

it is a good deal right?
Where can I find a 9 cell battery with 80+% charge for a good price?

Thank you user

bj stands for free blowjob

is there a collection of these jap ads somewhere?

Looking for something lightweight and only 12.5 to 13 inches. Anything for this? Looking to replace my 2015 Macbook pro.

I'm having some weird issue right now with my thinkpad with the trackpoint click buttons. For some reason, the left click and right click seem to be conjoined, not physically but on the software side of things. I can still left click, but it also activates the middle click button and vice versa. This started when I decided to clean my keyboard. I wiped it down with a moist cloth, but I don't think this would be responsible for the issue, since it wasn't soaking wet or anything like that, and I don't think this would cause an issue with what is supposedly a spillproof keyboard.

Thinking of getting a w510 over a w520 because of the keyboard and ports. Just anxious about the processor being wprse on the w510, how much can that really matter in the end?

You want to look at the X2** series or the A285 (Ryzen equivelant for the X-series).

Hey lads. I do web dev for school but have recently also started doing some back-end stuff.
I really like the portability of the X220 and would ideally have it docked to a larger screen for working. Would also go for the IPS screen.
Anyone else here have experience with Thinkpads for this kind of work or should I consider a different laptop?
Pls no say mac. :(

what's wrong with the W520's ports?

Thanks for the info. the A285 looks good. But a cheap X2** seems like a better plan.

IPS X230 with classic keyboard and I do this for work. It's pretty good for it. Resolution can be a little bit of a pain, but I can manage by running smaller fonts and no space wasted by panel, etc. If you can't live without a panel on your screen all the time, go for the T420 or T430.

"IPS" 20s and 30s are meme plebbit shit with awful image retention
fuck off to where you belong faggot

You're welcome user. I assumed you wanted higher specs, which is why I mentioned the Ryzen machine. If you're okay with lower specs, the X230 with a modded classic keyboard is a great machine.

They're not gaming machines fucktard. If the colour reproduction is good and the viewing angles are better than the eye cancer that is the TN screen, I don't give a fuck.

I have an hp elitebook 8440p with i5 520m and an ssd. I am thinking of changing it to a thinkpad in a $350 range, what would you advise and would there be a significant difference? BTW I have an additional monitor connected, so the current gig has become too slow to run all the tabs and whatnot

>gives a shit about ghosting on a $100~ shitposting/porn device

Thanks user.

>jumps on board the board in 2016
>tells anyone you have to go back

lmao the color reproduction is worse than laptops that are over a decade old now
again, fuck off with your shitty plebbit machines
there's not a single good thing about them. Not every nigger colored laptop with a trackpoint is worth owning.

Attached: 2018-11-03-1541284561.png (1906x510, 22K)

T480 or P52? I like both but damn nigga this is like a presidential decision.

Anything wrong with the x230?

Finally falling for the meme and an x200 from ebay is on order!

well it was japanse-only and rare af

Where's the Trap?

Attached: FaceApp_1535314171406.jpg (1280x1280, 780K)

still wondering what battery to buy for the x220

Better than TN eyecancer on just about every other thinkpad. Stock colours aren't too bad, but are actually pretty good with calibration if you high colour accuracy. Glad my machine makes you so angry, faggot.

Keyboard needs to be swapped with the one from the X220. Screen isn't the best but it's okay if it's IPS. Beyond that, it's a great machine.

anyone know any cheap european-based thinkpad sellers?

sorry meant to write w540

You could have bought a T450s or X250 fhd or a older thinkpad with an AFFS screen
but no, you bought plebbit garbage and I'm sick of you faggots polluting this thread + board.
There's nothing wrong with the W540 either?
Just make sure you get a W541 and consider that TTYs and other "older" linux programs just don't worth right with hidpi, so maybe go with the FHD model even though it's not as good.
Or just get a P50

ebay.com/usr/itsco?_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2754

for last second bids, usually enable bidding only for older thinkpad deals (-220, -230, 440 etc.)

>recommends new chink garbage or shit so old you barely even do anything on them anymore
hahahahaha i can't with this shit

point on the doll where the x220 ips panel touched you

yes so middle of the road shit is much better
look at all the x220 faggots getting triggered

>the whole world is wrong
Careful not to type too hard on your garbagepad with all that rage. Wouldn't want to break it, right?

What the fuck are you talking about, you stupid nigger? What an inane post, seriously.
>muh X220 is sooooo durable!!!
>guize I just bought an X220 for 300 dollars!!!!11! How did I do??
>just installed Arch on my X220! upvote me!
fuck
off
you stupid faggots

us$215 for an x220 with 8gb ram and 128gb ssd in europe
is it worth it guys? should i buy it?

Got this info out of my T450s that I bought on ebay for 260€ 3 days ago and that arrived today.
How fucked up is the SSD?

Attached: ssd_1.png (1002x720, 96K)

Nah. Shop around more. You shouldn't be spending more than €150 on an X220 or X230.

lmao are you retarded how much do you think an x220 costs

>can't even understand a greentext
typical of x220 niggers

I borrowed a 14 MBP and was highly surprised how damn heavy it feels.

anons, please make my difficult decisions for me.

should I get a P51 or X1 extreme?
the X1 extreme has a better gaymen graphics card but the P51 has a numpad and can hold a 2TB hdd for my music

Attached: 1494658473321.png (429x294, 230K)

Which Thinkpad models have an optical drive slot that I can replace with a caddy for a 2nd SSD?

No thinkpad models ever came with an optical drive slot.
You should get the Apple Macbook Pro instead.

I'm guessing he means Ultrabay, so

look for models with Ultrabay (on thinkwiki or somesuch)

Yes that's what I meant, ty for being helpful

>wanting a numpad
>voluntarily opting for a last gen processor
>not choosing the one with 50% more cores
>not choosing the one with an objectively better screen in literally every way
Are you fucking retarded?

please no bullying

Brought an x60 tablet for about 60 and crucial ram+ssd for 40. Did I do good g?

it is good %97

How much should I spend "fixing" (swapping motherboards) my x201 before it is more economically just to buy a x220?

out of these, which is the best when fully upgraded:
x200
t400
r400
t500
w500

I think that I actually managed to kill the trackpoint mouse buttons. Is there anyway that I could try fixing them? I ended up disabling them in the bios because it was as if someone was pushing them down. I would prefer if I didn't have to drop twenty bucks on a new one.

W500 of course

How do I buy thinkpad parts ? I want to buy a keyboard for a T460s and a battery for a X230.
The lenovo website have nothing and ebay isn't giving me anything.

What model is the 1tb SSD that the X1 Extreme comes with?

Just won a x230 via auction on ebay for 178 AUD.

Am I going to regret it?

Only if you don't upgrade the screen to fhd

get ips screen and x220 keyboard and its great

Yea I'm new to thinkpad and definitely am going to try that. I'm also planning on upgrading the hdd to ssd, is it really worth it considering the price? Also which budget ssd would you guys recommend?

SSDs make any computer feel much, much faster. It's one of those things where you don't really notice, until you have one, and try using a computer that doesn't. Then doing anything less than instantly feels slow as shit.

Where can I buy a legitimately good x220 keyboard that is not chink remake shits?

You can find legit Chicony keyboards on ebay if you buy from reputable sellers. They're pretty good, even if not as good as NMB (good luck finding a new one of those that won't cost as much as your whole damn computer though).

just paid 89 USD for a clean, great condition x60s with a 1.66ghz CD, 2gb of ram installed but i'll likely just swap one of the 1 gig sticks out for a 2 gig so i can max it out. No battery, but that is fine as I ordered a cheap chinese aftermarket one and will likely rebuild that with some genuine samsung cells. As soon as I've got an os (((void))) running on it i'll likely libreboot it and swap out the wifi card for an atheros one

now for my question: Did I do good? Bad? Just alright?

Attached: qtprogramminggf.jpg (1080x1630, 422K)

Well I guess I'll just use the hdd for a few weeks before getting the budget for ssd then

*macbooks

not this again. I don't get this whole "huhu i'm a girl and I know a thing about compooterz X3" thing that I see all the time. These types are near impossible to work with, obnoxious to talk to, and generally know less than they'd like to think in regards to their area of "expertise." You can be female, a software engineer, knowledgeable, and not have your entire life and personality revolve around those first two. A vagina does not make you special. A penis doesn't either. Quit being stuck up pricks.

This good?

It might be fine. The low quality of the images used worries me a bit. It also fails to mention what condition the keyboard is in, which means it could be used to all hell as far as you know.

I know this sounds dumb, but go for listings that say "genuine" or "original" and dion't say "compatible". That way, even if the keyboard they send you is a counterfeit, you can very easily get your money back from ebay. You'll be able to tell very easily if the keyboard is a fake. Either the printing will be of a noticeably lower quality than the X230 keyboard or the typing will feel substantially worse. Also, be sure to verify the FRU numbers and labels with official Lenovo ones. Con artists rely on people being stupid. Fight it with information. When it comes down to it, if it's your words vs the seller's, ebay will always side with you.

incel

Im in a similar boat Hoping mine doesn't arrive in a shiet condition compared to the listing pictures.
Void is my goto too. Im just hoping I won't fuck up something simple like the RAM, SSD or BIOS.

thanks you too

Attached: kingsviking_goodtaste.jpg (612x263, 104K)

Thanks for the advise. X220 replacement parts are marred with low quality chinese counterfeits. I have replaced the ips screen 2 times over the past 4 years of use, all of them due to bad soldering of the controller.

Constant fixing and replacing random parts for my x220 makes me feel really tired. It's not to the point of totally unusable, but with fewer and fewer genuine replacement parts, I could feel the constriction coming over the year. Maybe it's time to move up to something like t450s

I have a T-420 dualbooting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 16.04 with xfce. I notice sometimes my cpu temp will reach 80 c at 30% usage on ubuntu. Sometimes it might happen after moving/extracting files. My average temps on idle and browser is usually 46 c. Any idea why this could be happening?

>gorgeous
>that nose

^ did i do gud goys? :o

Need help identifying this thinkpad, Its lenovo, early 2010s, and has some sort of fingerprint scanner on it. If you are able to identify it, what upgrades would be recommended.

???

Looks like a T420/T430.

Yep, that's the one. Shit plastic and all.

It's a chuck in the bin immediately type Thinkpad. Seriously though, it's an E420.

Where's T440s guy? haven't been on g for a while
