what should I look for in a DAC?
everyone on here says they all sound the same and i see a bunch of Fiios reccomended all the time
I stumbled upon a booth in one mall having pretty much everything high end audeze, beyer, grado, fecal and a bunch of other ones, I would've been in absolute awe to see just one of these headphones, what about like 20 of them, they also obviously had some amps and dacs and now that I can actually try a few of them I'd get one
before you say it, I know I probably don't need one but I have a few bucks to spare and i think they're pretty cool so I want one

Basically with dac you don't want extra hisses and other noises in the line-level audio output. If you just want all-in-one solution you plug your headphones into check out SMSL M3, should run most headphones fine. If you want stand-alone dac you'll be plugging something else, then perhaps Topping D10 or D30

Honestly I love my Sennheisers HD558, even though they have no bass, they are 5 years old and still work like a charm (Pic related). Unfortunately some things changed in my life, I moved to VERY noisy place (I'm literally a couple of feet from a train track).
So I need a really good noise cancelling/isolating headphones. Sound quality is important, but right now not going crazy from the outside sounds is even more important.

Looking for headphones I can wear outdoors while on day hikes.
Would like closed back so i don't project my audio everyone around me but also want to be able to be aware of my surroundings.
Since I'm wearing them in public I would like to avoid the bulky headphones that has tension bars sticking out and shit like that.

Velour earpads are open and neutral while leather is closed and bassy, right? How does microseude affect sound signature?
I want to get replacement pads for SHP9500 and to add depth/distance but that alone will make them slightly more bassy. I don't want to add even more bass but leather seems more comfortable (I live in cold climate and blast AC all summer)

what about some that go down to 5Hz?
or something from fiio, they look pretty aesthetic

To get closed headphones that are as good as open backs you have to spend way more.
Closed back version of HD600 is $1k, focal elegia

who here stopped chasing the dragon and just got whatever makes your headphones "loud enough"?

Sure, knock yourself out, FiiO E10k is also popular dac/amp combo, can't really say anything about it myself since I don't own it other than people like it.

Any recommendations for something around $100 with good build quality? Prefer over-ear. In the US.

Loved my CB-1s but I guess the build quality meme was true. I only had these I think for a year.

Attached: rip status audio cb-1.jpg (526x702, 38K)

Did you buy from amazon? I got a 4-year protection plan with full replacement for something like LITERALLY $3 on my $200 headphones. I normally don't buy that kind of stuff, but headphones are probably the most likely peripheral I own to break.

I did but no warranty. Obviously I should have, in retrospect.

The good news is these actually fit on my head fine when fully retracted. But I can tell they won't stay that way for long.

I'm not even there yet.
My motherboard audio has more emi noise than music while usb audio interface that I got for recording has really fucking bad headphone output and very weak line out.
I'm waiting for that new Topping but will maybe get some amp instead.

Topping Dx3pro should be out any day now and is a better amp/dac than the schiit stack

topping has a good history of releasing quality products

meanwhile over at schiit they send you $1700 products that don't even arrive in working condition

Attached: amir.jpg (900x900, 94K)

>proof that anime-posters are cancer

It doesn't.
The HD569 is closed. Just because of that, it's going to be garbage against anyhing half decent and open.
The HD58x is open, and on top of that uses a driver that's somewhat like that of HD700 and HD660S, but smaller, which should be at least a cut above HD5xx stuff except HD580, no promises there as that's also a special case.
if you learn to use a search engine, you'll easily find that there's a lot of angry people re: topping QC (lots of DoA and units dying early). And the shit you're recommending isn't even released. At least I do recommend released schiit. Sensible models, too.

who told you to buy m40x? where did you get the idea that m40x/m50x were good? we have atleast one person per day coming in asking about the m40x, I'd like to know why.

the answer to your question is no they are shit get takstar pro 82s

they were just came up by filters on PCPP
those you recommended do seem to have all I need though

>they were just came up by filters on PCPP
so it's those fucking niggers, I need to send a strongly worded letter with a lot of profanity

There's no shame in modi/magni. At $99 both, they're very competitive. There's just no sense in paying more to get something else that's almost definitely unnecessary and probably worse.
Hating or Loving schiit is not even a factor here. Let's try and be rational.

I'ma console kid, so I suppose I have to fall for the "gamer headset" shit. Is surround sound or stereo better in a headset? my budget is $80 and I play on ps4

Attached: 56784.png (298x199, 40K)

>There's just no sense in paying more to get something else that's almost definitely unnecessary and probably worse
you are a dumb nigger
>As it is, the cheaper Topping D10 gets 103 dB SINAD over USB versus just 96 for Schiit Modi 3. That aside, Schiit's statement is correct that it is the best measuring DAC they have ever produced, easily beating even their $2,400 Schiit Yggdrasil. It also beats the Modi 2 Uber even though it is cheaper.

d10 is cheaper and better performing. I brought up the $1700 yggy because they don't even do QC on their most expensive products

what is a 'buypig'?

It's definitely worth it to get something not associated with a company that has a proven track record of bad QC and CS.

The internet is full of happy Magni3 and Modi3 owners.
And people who got a Topping, it was DoA and they're having trouble dealing with the chink source.

>d10 is cheaper and better performing.
Check out the (revised) Amir review of Modi 3 for the actual USB results after he took care of his testing problem.
And a reminder the D10 (and the toppings in general) are garbage in intermodulation test.

Based Amir.

and only one of the two companies tells their customers to fuck off
it's not audible. how about you fuck off and kill yourself 4SCHILL. you are the only one here who checks the schiit headfi thread daily. you are approaching audiophool/sbaf tier levels of faggotry right now you should be mindful. keep defending schiit, whether you are right or wrong /hpg/ will come to hate you regardless.

I'm not even a schill. It's just sensible to recommend the Magni and Modi on their third iteration, because they really are awesome value for the money.

I haven't personally dealt with topping, but here is what I have dealt with.

Schiit products I have personally owned:
Fulla 2 - Scratchy knob
Magni 2 - Scratchy knob
Valhalla 2 - Burns through tubes super fast, creates channel imbalances
Wyrd - Didn't even fix ground loop
Modi MB - Occasionally would freak out and disconnect, only a couple power cycles would fix (USB)
Magni 3 - Scratchy knob

The stuff I didn't buy used started showing issues outside of the 30 day return period (excluding Wyrd, which I returned), sent messages to schiit support, no response.
Before the usual "hurr the scratchy knob isn't a big deal" I get it, it isn't a big deal. But you know how many other products I've owned developed scratchy knobs in under 1 year or even at all? Zero. At some point, you have to start using your brain.

In contrast:
STAX - roughly 20 year old SRM-313 & 717 - no static, work fine, 1 year old SRM-252S - no static, works fine
JDSLabs Element - No static after 2 years
JDSLabs EL DAC - No problems after 1.5 years
Bunch of chinkshit - No problems after X months (Emotiva, nobsound, little bear, Fiio)
Moral of the story: buy JDSLabs. It's worth paying a couple extra bucks to avoid the Schiit lottery.

>I'm not even a schill
then explain why you check the headfi thread daily like a fanboy

>Fulla 2 - Scratchy knob
>Magni 2 - Scratchy knob
>Magni 3 - Scratchy knob
It's a feature. The pot is a good one, but it acts directly on the signal, so it's always gonna be a little scratchy, as pots always are. You could get rid of scratchiness by not acting on the signal directly, but the indirection would also hurt the signal, even when you're not adjusting the volume
>funky boutique other hw
Come on, nobody here is recommending these. That's not where the value is

>then explain why you check the headfi thread daily like a fanboy
But I do not? We at the schills maillist get notifications on updates.

>Scratchy pots are a feature!
You can't seriously believe this, can you? This is honestly a level of delusion I can't even comprehend. There are plenty of amplifiers out there that measure as well or better than Schiit's products that don't develop that problem (including 20 year old stax).

>Come on, nobody here is recommending these. That's not where the value is
I'm making a point about Schiit as a comany having poor QC and CS, so their higher end products having issues is very relevant.

suck my fick fags I just got bew headphones kys

you think jdslabs and emotiva/fiio are funky boutique? scratchy pot is a feature?

boy you've sure been exposed for the shill that you are.
oh I'm sorry that makes a huge difference. you still read through every schiit post and suckle at the teat for any little detail jason jizzes your way

>you think jdslabs and emotiva/fiio are funky boutique?
It was about the other schiit products you listed.
>scratchy pot is a feature?
I explained what that is about. I'd rather have pot on the signal and a little scratchiness on movement than degraded signal all the time. Of course there's methods to not have to suffer either, but they're costly.
>you still read through every schiit post
I actually don't. The post you replied to was a joke, you autist.

Very funny when actual faggots hate anime.
Faggot.

>Buying schiit products also does that
What?

Will a ground loop isolator dongle remove EMI static from inside my computer case?

Attached: 41blWtrwlYL._SR600,315_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg (600x315, 19K)

>It was about the other schiit products you listed.
not me who listed. again there are multiple people criticizing you
>I actually don't. The post you replied to was a joke, you autist.
yes you do, don't pretend you aren't 4SCHILL HAHA
>I'd rather have pot on the signal and a little scratchiness on movement than degraded signal all the time
that's actually funny to me because a scratchy pot is audible but a degraded signal isn't

>degraded signal
Might as well buy some $2000 cables to not "degrade" the signal you dumb cunt. It's an excuse Schiit made up to justify using bottom of the barrel parts and you bought it, hook line and sinker.

>yes you do, don't pretend you aren't 4SCHILL HAHA
Do you UNIRONICALLY believe there's schiit shills in Jow Forums? Honest.
>that's actually funny to me because a scratchy pot is audible but a degraded signal isn't
It's only audible when moving the knob, and barely.

>Do you UNIRONICALLY believe there's schiit shills in Jow Forums? Honest.
hahahaha so you don't even recognize that you're the schiit shill and think you are being ironic about it

my sides

>Might as well buy some $2000 cables to not "degrade" the signal
I'd suggest a Schiit Wyrd instead. An actual usb decrappifier. The purity you can achieve!

>barely
Not "barely" in my units. With low impedance headphones it was moderately loud.

I have never had my pot scratch on my O2. And I built that thing

You mean the device that can't even fix a ground loop that a ifi USB stick a tenth the size could?
Really gets the noggin joggin my dude.

>buying ifi
>ever
I recommend schiit instead. Quality products, designed and built in the USA.

I recommend products that work, i. e. not Schiit.

E X P O S E D hahahaha I'm dying

This. Schiit embodies the enterpreneual spirit of America, creating all-American products designed and built in good old USA (god bless), fuelled by the passion and hard work of two good, hard-willed men. God bless Schiit, God bless America.

That's basically slander at this point.
You have a personal vendetta against Schiit, and you should be aware you're not acting in good faith.

You forgot Amir. He came around at some point.
Based Amir.

"One cannot defend himself against the Jew. He attacks with lightning speed from his position of safety and uses his abilities to crush any attempt at defense.

Quickly he turns the attacker’s charges back on him and the attacker becomes the liar, the troublemaker, the terrorist. Nothing could be more mistaken than to defend oneself. That is just what the Jew wants. He can invent a new lie every day for the enemy to respond to, and the result is that the enemy spends so much time defending himself that he has no time to do what the Jew really fears: to attack. The accused has become the accuser, and loudly he shoves the accuser into the dock. So it always was in the past when a person or a movement fought the Jew."

Attached: 1f914.png (512x512, 19K)

You might as well stop posting this they are sold out

But we're totally not jews. At the very least, I'm not.
A jew would recommend some made in Israel product instead.
It'd use Palestinian blood to enhance the sound.

it's simple. you name the jew. if you act with honor and don't stoop to their level, a jew trickery will have no effect

>But we're totally not jews. At the very least, I'm not.
yeah sure but these lines:
>That's basically slander at this point.
>you should be aware you're not acting in good faith.
I'm not even sure I could larp as a jew that convincingly. the jew cries as he strikes back at you.

But how could I do that? For instance, the Modi 3 is hard to argue against at its price, with the glowing reviews it has, such as the one by the reputable reviewer Amir.
I have to shitpost instead. I've got nothing left.

"One cannot allow the Jew the same means one would give an honest opponent, for he is no honorable opponent. He will use generosity and nobility only to trap his enemy."
