Linux magix

>wifi disconnects
>restart NetworkManager
>nothing
>suspend
>wake up
>wifi works again

Question:
can this be done without suspension/reload?

what more can you do than restart NetworkManager????

reload the wlan card's module. use modprobe.

restart wpa_supplicant

ok thanks

use wpa_cli like any white man

>suspend
>wake up
that's funny because the fan on this laptop gets ''stuck'' on loud rpm after some 3D (wine wow.exe with no vsync)
suspend fixes it

systemctl disable NetworkManager
then use your package manager to install a good, non-broken network manager. You can also skip that and just run wpa_supplicant manually in a variety of flavors.

sudo rm -rf /*

And what network manager would that be?

np

Under Xubuntu I sometimes disconnected from LAN randomly.
Installed Arch and it hasn't happened yet.
Shit is weird mang.

Yeah every *buntu does that

Unfortunately I have no idea how to report this bug because it's not like something crashes and gives you that option

i am a linux noob and i installed mint on my laptop. Sometimes it disconnects randomly or the speed is really shitty, what can I do?

>install new distro
>separate / and /home
>delete most old ~/dotfiles and dotfolders.
>leave .mozilla and .thunderbird dirs.
>notice bold font in terminal isn't very bold.
>just slightly brighter and bolder.
>oh well, I guess this is just like that.
>use as is for couple months
>one day tweak firefox fonts for a while.
>results aren't great, so reset firefox fonts to default.
>terminal bold font is suddenly bold as it should be.
>¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mint is also Ubuntu based

service restart network-manager
service restart networking

Works for me on Gentoo, even without restarting any service, though NetworkManager's scan interval is absurdly high

>shut lid of laptop
>open lid back up
>login always fails

>connect to wifi
>stay connected for hours
>suspend
>resume after some hours
>wifi is still connected, works just fine
how does this shit work? what the fuck is going on?

You use Windows or MacOS

>"I guess this is just like that"
Not,
>"Maybe some of the shit I deleted changed this"

HURRRRRRRRRRRRR

>use wpa_cli like any white man
Did you mean iwctl?

Also, iwd is pretty neat, except for its need to have dbus running.

I like connman.

? I use ubuntu

anyone knows why this happens? it's not a DHCP thing, I'm sure.

>just run wpa_supplicant manually
fucking archfaggots, i swear

I wish I knew what the fuck you fags are talking about

>I wish I knew what the fuck you fags are talking about
Network manager and all others work "on top" of wpa_supplicant. You can use the latter directly (as I do), but connecting to new networks is a pain in the ass and you need extensions.

(((Intel))) is writing a replacement for wpa_supplicant, called iwd. It's a lot more convenient and is supposed to be cleaner and better, utilizing kernel more.

Problem is 1. It's by Intel and we know how good they are with security 2. It requires dbus which I don't need otherwise.

Different user but thanks for explaining!

Yeah, thanks

no i meant wpa_cli
