Buy a UPS during Black Friday. They're not too expensive (~$100) and can last over an hour if you have low-watt essentials plugged in (router and modem).
There is nothing more comfy than still being connected to the internet on your laptop when the power goes out. Yes, you could have had similar with just smartphone + tether, but this was better.

Living in a first world country with a proper power grid would be far comfier.

I'm in the Bay Area in CA. Shit happens. In this case, somebody drove into a telephone pole.

but doesnt the UPS start screaming because no power?
Andrew Russell
Nah, at least not my model. It starts beeping every minute when it's about to run out of juice, which for me was 1.5 hours later.

I work in a hospital lab and all our machines use UPS. When we get a new machine, the manufacturer gives us a new UPS for it. The older ones are free for anyone who wants them. Right now i have 2 APC SMT1000. Its great not having to worry for brown outs and black outs. Which aren’t usually issues because i don’t live in a shithole third world country but is useful because sometimes we lose power for a full second when the utility company shuts down a plant after peak hours
