The VGA Font
Name?
terminus
Tamzen
Oh look it's another episode of Jow Forums doesn't know the difference in a font and a typeface
Arial Black
these names are interchangeable
docs.microsoft.com
whats the difference
Not the guy above but the link you listed calls Times New Roman a font family, not a font. Just thought I'd leave you with that thought.
Anyone have some good fonts that are bitmappy?
font family is:
1. either related to fonts
or
2. consists of fonts
Mononoki
Poppl Laudatio Condensed

SONY FIXED JSIX
i wish there was a button that would kill all people using and promoting serif fonts instantly
The only answer that show an actual proportional font. Even OP got it wrong.
YIKES
by the way it''s the font of Debian logo
A serif typeface is nice/comfy for physical print, especially if u are using a Gutenberg style printing press. Sometimes the ink doesn't get on the letters perfectly and the serif can make it possible to tell what the letter is supposed to be. But ye anyone using serifs in their UI is just freakin retarded
I like the new plex font by ibm
github.com
It's also available as a package for LaTeX on ctan which is nice
ctan.org
I used LaTeX quite a while ago, but there was a way to use any font from your system if I remember things right. XeLaTeX and polyglossia. So even it does not have a package there no problem.
it's such a happy font
That's true, but the plex package has some neat fine tuning that would take a while to do manually.

What's latex? Is it like ms word?
This, or Terminus for the bitmap meme
Roboto is goat.
Wing Dings or GTFO.
Please enlighten me
Ubuntu Mono
Very nice font this is. Somewhat underrated font imho.
unironically tewi.
Monaco hands down
I cant find this. Google keeps giving me shitty beach font results.
Also Terminus
Inconsolata sucks dicks because of a slanted `t`.
I gave up on that shit and switched to terminus permanently.
how to get rid of font clipping
You're thinking monospaced. Proportional os something like Tines New Roman.
Best proportional: Open Sans
Best Monospaced: Fantasque Mono
Thanks for this, this one is the best for me.
You know I've always liked the look of the Japanese font, Meiryo UI. The roman characters are probably based on another font, but hell if I know which one. All I know is I like it.
i like some of the ones in this bitmap font pack
int10h.org
honorable mentions for liberation mono, hack, go mono, and ibm plex mono
it's ridiculously thin
search xfonts sony or xorg fonts sony or sony misc or shinonome mincho
on gentoo it's font-sony-misc
Is there an equivalent on Debian I could pull from the repo?
probably, I dunno how it's called though I never used debian
alternatively you can get them directly from xorg
x.org
xfonts-base
looks like castlevania desu
Lucida console, because i poo in a loo
> anything other than DejaVu Sans Mono
Come home white man
Gentium
Monofur. Easy to read, no ambiguous glyphs, monospace, works at small sizes and large.
> I can make a font too !
> pulls out MS Paint
Pic for large viewport games
VT220 for 80x25 viewport games
Terminus for terminal
Inconsolata italic for browser
Droid 8 for system UI
>proportional
kys commie
>OP asks for proportional fonts
>people almost only post monospace singers
>a bunch of autists post monospace bitmap fonts
As expected of Jow Forums
Best proportional is Computer Modern.
Best monospace is Tamzen.
>CM
It's so good almost nobody uses it outside of academic science shit!
OP asks for favourite fonts. I don't have a favourite proportional font, all my favourites are monospace.
>As expected of Jow Forums
Why would anyone expect any different?
It's just the way it is.
They want it one way...
It's not proportional, but I like Fantasque.
im ok with terminus and liberation mono desu
By this, you mean that it's not fully monospaced?
Name pls
this.
It looks great on low resolutions
It's "monospaced" in the CJK sense, i.e. latin/halfwidth kana are all the same width, wide characters like ideograms are all the same width, and wide characters are double the width of a latin character.
This means you keep alignment even when you've got mixed latin and wide characters.
Helvetica Neue and San Francisco.
>looks beautiful
>looks beautiful
I have literally never understood the hate for that font. Sure, it looks goofy but that's the fucking point.
hermit
zero idea why but it reminds me of anime
It looks like shit, but that's one thing, the problem is normalfags abusing it and using it any fucking where, even where its goofiness is inappropriate and out of place.
I've seen it used for medical purposes and at a funeral service shop. Though, to be frank, its use has gradually diminished in favor of calibri because people are getting less and less computer literate and won't even bother changing the font.
i didnt know you can do "pub type" in rust. thx user
I like Raleway, probably not fit for programing, but good for websites.
>bold as default font
>Best proportional is Computer Modern.
This is the correct answer.
A man of refined taste, I salute you.
you don't say, satan
your font is fat
ive been using deja vu sans for a couple of years now but might switch to this, looks nice
