How come transferring files to and from a shared folder is slower than downloading stuff on the internet? It's really irritating.
Isaac Cooper
I don't like it. UI is ugly For some reason sometimes explorer.exe gets stuck when selecting image to upload Can't uninstall software I don't want (xbox live? the fuck?) Don't know how to hide my porn (it shows in task view and in explorer recent files) I had to go to different websites to install software. What the hell? Is this 2003? lol thunderbird notifications doesn't display message in notification (shows blank box where it suppose to be text) had to use script to make mpv.exe default player have to manually unpin ads from start menu search can't find some installed programs (godot, i.e.) can't use wildcards when searching for software or files in start menu
You can uninstall xbox live. Look up a powershell command to do it
Evan Campbell
I'd rather not if it wasn't meant to be. Don't want to break OS or make unstable.
Luke Foster
Nah, it's designed to be removed by sys admins for enterprise environments.
Owen Murphy
why the hell it even exists in enterprise version of windows? it's a rhetoric question, unless you're responsible for this, I meant no harm.
any idea how to hide certain folders/directories from windows explorer? was looking at properties on folder, but it's either cryptic to me, or there are not option for this there.
Luke Powell
First you go into file explorer and change the settings under view to not show hidden folders or files. Then go to the properties of the folder and check the hidden option under attributes.
Cooper Flores
I don't want to hide it visually, I don't want it to be indexed
Asher Reyes
about the shitty apps, you will be able to remove most of them using the store. in regard to removing them via powershell scripts, it shouldn't be a problem, except if it's something important like edge or ie (because windows might reuse functionality in other stuff)
>any idea how to hide certain folders/directories from windows explorer you can set it to hidden (and disable "show hidden files and folders"), and I'm pretty sure you can tell windows/explorer to not index the folder somehow
Xavier Fisher
>you will be able to remove most of them using the store. samefag here. forgot to mention that this is starting with 1809. saw this on a insider preview changelog
Charles Johnson
Open up control panel and go to indexing options. Click the modify button and in the indexed locations window, find to the folder you want to exclude. Uncheck and click ok. Go back to indexing options and click advanced. Go to index settings tab and click rebuild. When it's done log out and back in.
Justin Rodriguez
Heh, try backing up your stuff next time.
Liam Jones
/thread This sucks. If it weren't for the botnet shit, Windows would be such a great OS. It's comfy, easy to use, and compatible with almost all software.
Oliver Rodriguez
what? how does it even work? my whole drive isn't checked in, but files I open from it shows in used files and task view thought indexing and recent files are related
so, how to disable files from appearing in recent files or task view?
Ethan Johnson
I know how to hide it visually (I don't want this), just want to exclude directory from appearing in recent used files and when opening task view
Carter Gomez
Has anyone tried Fedora 29? It's pretty comfy.
Xavier Wilson
>gaming OS general
Ian Bell
Let the files appear in recent files. Then open file explorer and go to quick access. Right click the file or folder and click 'Remove from Quick Access'. That file/folder will never appear again.
Easton Turner
>all these linux faggots buttmad at the superior OS
Windows is the best OS, you can do literally everything in it, it haves all the software, unlike linux cucks who have to use crap freetard programs made by autists like GIMP
Adam Rodriguez
Yeah I like Windows. Linux taxes my brain with too many shell commands to remember. I like to work 80% GUI 20% shell
Dylan Ross
but quick access shows only files, not folders how do I do this to folder?
Kayden Barnes
The folders appear under 'frequent folders' when you click quick access from the left menu, repeat the same thing on them
This is why you always wait a period before installing a windows update. Let the over anxious find the faults first, then strut in afterwards and collect the benefits.
Ryder Scott
Also, this is a great advertisement for keeping your files on a seperate partition.
Jace Green
This is why you never use windows* FTFY
No wonder mission critical servers run Linux. Even MS Azure now hosts Linux.
Owen Campbell
Fuck, no one answers this on /sqt/. I'm gonna ask here anyway. Anyone know how to add "duplicate" on Windows' context menu? It's really convenient to duplicate files on Mac with that so I kinda want it on Windows. I only know how to do that for duplicating folder, but I don't know how for general files.
Gavin Murphy
I like windows, it works for me. You do what you like. I'm just saying waiting before installing updates is a common practice. Sys admins will install updates in a test environment before rolling it out on a live environment, so this would be a non-issue.
Joshua Thomas
In linux it's just echo deduplicate.sh ~/Templates
Joshua King
why are linux shills here well thanks for the bumps, I guess, but why do you care about what OS I use I used linux for a long time, and often I end up installing a distro again I come back to windows every time because of distro hopping and several inconsistencies that bother me

Reminder: >This is NOT Windows vs any other OS thread.
Noah Hughes
I'm not sure what you mean. You could click a file, then ctrl+c ctrl+v it. That would duplicate it.
Samuel Wood
>No more hotfixes goy
Wtf are these moneylenders doing
Jaxson Cook
Can't always wait on update when being used by Losedows. Some persons get forced into updating as soon as available. The only way to fix that is by shredding Downdows partition and installing an OS that's modern and usable, like Mint or Manjaro.
What I heard is that M$ puts useds in various groups, so that they can test their behavior and reactions: some get an OS that is evil(can't delete preinstalled adware, update settings get changed randomly, user is forced into installing updates no matter what), while others have a slightly less insane system.
Of course, because it's proprietary shitware, we might never find out what the dichheads in M$ actually do, though this hypothesis seems plausible: my friends are similarly computer-savvy to me, and they have absurd problems on Downdows 10: system suddenly screams to update, or they wake up to the computer being locked by Losedows Update. Whereas I never encountered that: for me, M$ Downdows only updated when I don't use it(and I didn't set active hours, kept them on default setting). Oftentimes, it actually didn't let me update, which was weird: after starting the system it showed that updates are available, yet after a few minutes of usage when I want to shutdown and let this piece of shit do it's updates - the option no longer exists.
Grayson Campbell
I'm sorry you're so angry. Just going to remind you this isn't 'Windows vs. The World' and ignore you.
Ryder Rogers
You need to do that twice, whereas what I want is just right click > duplicate. I'm not trying to push the OS wars because I really like this feature on MacOS and I kinda want it on windows.
Jason James
as long as the update catalog continues to work
Luke Brooks
>sometimes explorer.exe gets stuck when selecting image to upload At my workplace it gets stuck during deleting files (more precisely while calculating how much time the whole deleting action will take)
Evan Wright
Might be less of a Windows question and more of Network question but >have fucking old 2002 Dell desktop PC >no wireless card >want to use it as server with a couple of "portable" HDDs attached so family members (who all use laptops) can use it was wireless backup >hook it up to router via Ethernet cable >go through process of setting its C:// drive up as network share >can see it on Dell >hop on laptop connected via wifi >fucking windows share is nowhere to be found Do I need to get some sort of wireless adapter so that a laptop can see it over network with having to physicallly connect an Ethernet cable to the router?
Aiden Reed
folder doesn't appear there should I open folder multiple times to appear on frequent folders so I then can disable it from frequent folders? this is dumbest shit I've heard yet
maybe, if I can't tell windows which folders must be excluded from history, I can tell explorer.exe to include only specific folders/directories or file formats?
Asher Miller
Just disable recent files then. It's the simplest solution.
Owen Murphy
this is weird, right? I mean, I would understand if I had old PC, but windows is on NVME drive, with 2666MHz 16GB RAM and 8 core ryzen CPU feels like explorer's code is just boilerplate (probably it is, when you remember THAT story about implementing dropdown menu (or was it some other trivial thing))
Justin Martinez
but I don't want to disable recent files, sometimes it's handy
Henry Perez
Are you using tablet or something You can hold ctrl and drag the file a bit to make a copy. If you want a context menu option, you need a .vba script and registry key. That needs googling, someone has probably done it already.
David Brown
Hoo boy, better switch to Linux then I guess
Jacob Green
well, fine, I disabled recent files, but this doesn't solve task view it still shows whatever I've opened
Easton Taylor
can't, currently, not until I get new CPU
Gabriel Jones
If shows up in task view, close that file explorer window.
Brody Stewart
looking how to hide folders/directory from history came up pic related the hell this is? does it process every page I open and censor it? by default it was set in the middle
loved it. used DOS, 3.11. 95 saved up as a kid for this, with that happy days cover musicvideo.
having video play on your computerscreen was pretty new as consumer.
98 was more stable. ME was crap 2000 was fantastic. xp was an improvement vista was not windows 7 is where it's at.
Carter Green
did it, tested it, files still shows up in task view
Ryder Moore
No you don't need to add a wireless card but you do need to ensure Windows will share folders on a private network in Network and Sharing Center.
Joshua Peterson
Tired of helping you, good luck
Ayden Phillips
thanks, I guess
Dylan Brooks
No, just someone who prefers to use the mouse over keyboard. >If you want a context menu option, you need a .vba script and registry key. That needs googling, someone has probably done it already. I know that, that's why I asked here. I got one with registry, basically calling cmd then copy "%1" "%1 copy" but the result is the duplicated file name is "old name.txt-copy" instead of "old name-copy.txt." I don't know shit about cmd command line too so I don't know what to replace this "%1" thing.
Jason Foster
you could do that easily with Powershell scripting (not sure about batch tho). You can split the filename and the extension, and copy the original to "$filename copy.$extension", basically.
Blake Lewis
I only ever use windows to download and make a live linux usb and then nuke windows, it's the only thing it's good for.
Grayson Cook
How do you like the popping CMD window? There's VBA for customizing explorer. But if you want to use CMD anyway superuser.com/questions/615639/ If the command you provided is valid, then it would be something like this copy "%1" "%~n1-copy%~x1"
Robert Morris
I don't know how to do that either? >There's VBA for customizing explorer. Care to tell me how? >copy "%1" "%~n1-copy%~x1" Woah thanks, lad.
Bentley Butler
Well I don't really feel like spending time to google it for you. Should be pretty much same as CMD but with .vbs files.
Samuel Howard
Cringing so hard at all the idiots using Linux distros on their computers
Ethan Morales
They literally just disabled hotfixes and fixit's altogether and aren't even subtle about the fact that they're doing this out of desperation to try and herd the sheeple into using botnet10
Shit's getting real now bois
Is the simplix update pack as good as wsus? It seems a lot more hassle-free, i think i'll give this a try with a fresh w7 install if i go thru with the other build
>compatible with almost all software. that's not windows capability retard
Ryder Martinez
...this just still pisses me off to no end. There was no need for it other than greed. So all future Windows versions (all Windows 10 milestones, apparently) will essentially stay tablet-OS's, eternal betas, stepping stones back towards a world where your machine at home is a useless terminal for which you'll have to basically buy mainframe time for ridiculous amounts of money. Thank you no thank you, MS. Windows and Office might be web services to you now, they will never be for me. An offline installation of Win7 next to a Linux Mint main system will do fine for me when 2020 hits. I've stayed with these guys long enough, I still think Win7 was a masterpiece. But apparently...MS cares little about the users, which they've now essentially degraded to unpaid beta testers. See ya, suckers.
And I hope - however dim a hope that might be - that many others will do the same.
Chase Fisher
Does anyone have the link to the site with all the windows isos? I'm pretty sure it had river in the url. Also can anyone point me to somewhere I might find a windows server 2008 download?
