Coulda saved 8 bucks user
I love you, motherfucker. Had to learn all this without it!
Would LOVE some Windows management as well, though. Not really for me, for work.
>everyone uses windows
>companies make software for windows because everyone uses windows
>everyone uses windows because companies make software for windows
Glad to help user
Can't really help with the Windows thing, as I don't really use it much anymore besides the bare minimum :/
Myanonamouse has an interview going on the day after tomorrow, user.
Play it smart.
What a dumb site.
>not using just cd
*BUYS* a book based on a free to use operating system full of free to use applications and free to read documentation/tutorials
0/10
But I wouldn't learn good info like this
Just use cd retard
Looks like it was written for toddlers
It was but hot damn it was only $7.98!
>mobileposting
neat
>track down a dozen manuals to get started
or
>buy one book
hmmmmm real difficult
OP is gonna be a motherfucking genius after reading this book
Just look at that hot tip I found just flipping around the book, if I weren't a cis white male I think Google would hire me when I'm done here.
Gay. Even the best forks of Ubuntu like Debian and Red Hat can't match Windows in the datacenter.
>being this stupid
d'aw, did you buy some of these to go with it?
just read the man pages dumbass
thanks my fren this will be very useful
>d'aw, did you buy some
good link, thank meine neger.
Teach Yourself Unix in 24 Hours is really good, basically do one "hour" a day and you'll be smarter than 90% of Jow Forums
Nigger what the fuck are you doing? It's not like Linux is something you have to pay for; just learn the same way most of us did - By actually using the system and learning as you go.
The only time I'd "pay" (more like pirate) for some knowledge book on Linux is if say I wanted to learn how Linux works; how does the kernel work, ect.
That $8 could've been used on a really cheap dumpster hooker. What a dummy.
linux is already easy.
You know there are many free as in freedom books out there, but I never heard somebody actually print them for free of charge.
Don't know anything about this book, but generally some good introductory book will help you at beginning if you really want to learn how to properly use OS tools. Just go throught it to have some foundation, after that you can start reading man pages and other documentation, but without some foundation you won't be able to read documentation, or at least it'll be much harder task.
Nowhere does it say "/home/pete" is your (the user's you are currently logged in as) home directory.
its `cd ..` you mong
It's implied.
No shit, dumbass.
give him a break, it's not that easy
cd ~
If the content isn't about kernel development, throw it into the trash.
>without some foundation you won't be able to read documentation, or at least it'll be much harder task
Very true. I nearly never learnt Unix, as I was about to give up until I found the FreeBSD Handbook.
Not the same user but I congratulate you user.
I learned Linux using a 24hours kind of book. It proved extremely helpful at the time. But I was humble and I recognised my own noobness and I was willing to get help from anyone who cared enough to provide some. And in time that made me money, more money than the stuff I learned at university. Go figure.
It's not implied, what the fuck are you talking about?
I am this user and I approve. That's a very good starting point. Took me a month's free time to master the content of that book and replace all the tools I used in windows with shell scripts I wrote.
>~ (home directory). This directory defaults to your “home directory”. Such as /home/pete.
How can I download the entirety of this site for offline viewing?
