Sadly this is the case. Need server stuff? JavaScript can do that. Need to target all devices? A web browser will handle all that low level stuff for you, so use JavaScript. Need to make a desktop app? You can use JavaScript. Need to be low level? JavaScript wont work here. Everything else? Yeah. Use JavaScript.
What do users want? They want it to work on their device and work fast. What does JavaScript offer? Exactly that.
