Finder is still the most convenient, consistent GUI file manager out there

Finder is still the most convenient, consistent GUI file manager out there.

The one that overwrites folders with the same name?

true, but just shows how much gui sux
if you want it to

No one cares.

MOOOOOODDDDDSSS !!!!111!1!'1

true

shows how much non-apple fm developers suck

so it manages files or it finds files?
because on other os these are two functions

File managers on Android are unironically superior to anything I've seen on desktop.

Did they fix the refresh issue it has with Majave? Shit sucks.

I wouldn't know, I stopped using it years ago

imo file management is at least the following set of operations:
- finding
- opening
- copying
- moving
- renaming
- deleting

Have you used/tried ForkLift?

jeez why does macos look so gay

You're just super jelly, look at those sexy little bars full of crisp buttons, and the parts of the UI that let the desktop bleed through. Nothing else comes close in terms of visual design.

Windows file manager is by far the most powerful default file manager

Does Windows provide decent thumbnails/previews for basic file types now?

>Nothing else comes close in terms of visual design.

Attached: 634231.png (154x155, 50K)

Haha no.

Can you mass rename files in File Explorer?

Yes.

It does since Windows 98?

The children are right old man.

So can I see a thumbnail and a full preview of:

- PDF, Postscript, SVG, PSD
- Animated GIFs
- Video files, with some way to do inline playback
- Source code with syntax highlighting
- Text files like markdown, but rendered
- Word/Excel/PowerPoint (Pages/Numbers/Keynote)

Gifs and video have thumbnails, documents can be read in the preview pane, the rest is not basic at all.

Finder either does this by default, or supports it through plugins, and has done for years now. It's basic when you've got it.

>or supports it through plugins,
So does Explorer.

of course. you faggot just can't stop drinking semen, that's all

That would be dolphin.

>Year of the Lord 2018
>Still fails to merge folders
convenience my ass

Yeah but can Explorer create a file named con?
Ha gotem *dabs*

Not sure why people react to this now. I've had a computer with OS X around since 2006, and never had an issue with this, and I merge folders all the time. Have not seen anyone complain about this until recently.

Whats a good linuggs gewey file manager with thumbnails?

I'm switching to Linux for my main PC this week and I'm not sure what to use

Explorer's bluk rename is junk compared to Finder

Attached: rename.png (1280x828, 341K)

for homosexuals, you mean?
>remove folder from left sidebar, expect it to be unpinned
>folder is actually deleted from from disk

Explorer's plugin architecture isn't designed for this, Finder has a dedicated plugin type for previews. It allows devs to add support for previewing any filetype.

Take USDZ, support was added in Mojave, that allows not only a preview of the 3D object but you can rotate the object right in the preview pane in Finder/Quicklook.

mac trash is junk compared to fisher price toys if you go this way

Great (you)ing skills, have you ever considered a career in technical writing?

Since we are here, any recomendations for a file manager for windows? And a image viewer? explorer just sucks.

Did they fix the Cut function ?

I think so, it's now 'copy' -> 'move item here' and you don't even touch the cut menu item.

Hydrus and ahoviewer, one commander for everything else..

>finder
>consistent
Nigger fucking what?
Even Explorer is more useful than that shit.
Dolphin is the best.

Try making that post using only the command line.

With a pass it could be done easily

Then why aren't you doing it?

Because I'm not going to give hiroshimoot $20

elaborate on how finder is bad or worse

So you need a GUI.
Another question, do you have autism, aspergers, or in general are you the kind of person who has issues admitting when they're wrong?

>managing files through a UI
Can you be any less productive?

>tfw Finder has the only decent Miller columns implementation
I want to switch to a better OS but I don't want a worse file manager

It was broken?

When was I wrong? You said try posting without a GUI and I pointed out how it was possible.

how do you manage pictures or videos with terminal

>view files with QuickLook
>manage them with cli commands

Since when can Explorer.exe show the contents of a file without opening it (without installing QuickLook)? Since when can Explorer.exe rename multiple files at once? Since when did Explorer.exe have a column view? And the list goes on.

What do you mean manage? It's the same as any other kind. Moving, copying, renaming, deleting etc. is all faster. If you just need to view a file then you can call simple viewer. Honestly I encourage you to try it--learn the terminal commands and tricks to reduce the amount of typing you need to do and you'll be flying through stuff faster than in any visual file explorer.

you use qlmanage?
still using terminal for pictures seems inefficient, unless pictures are tidily named or all of them have useful metadata

Or you can use a good visual file explorer like Finder, which has great shortcut and keyboard support so that you can manage files as quick if not quicker with the keyboard and with the added bonus of QuickLook and a GUI when needed.

>you use qlmanage?
Yeah, I aliased it to ql
>still using terminal for pictures seems inefficient
It depends on what exactly it is I'm doing. If I'm moving various file types and just need to see what a few images are I'll use qlmanage. If I'm explicitly working with photos, say organizing vacation photos, then I'll use Finder

yea let's have the 500st thread about how amd instead

Ranger is infinitely better.

I like spacefm, up to 4 panels with tabs and thumbnails, it can be as simple or as autistic as you need.

>Rename Finder Items
>Finder Items
Did they mean "files"?

why is Apple copying the Gnome look?

>GUI file manager
>Ranger
Wrong thread mate.

try making this post only using Finder

Files, folders, archives, you know, Finder Items™

Not difficult.
>record actions to create a post using automator prior to this
>double click the workflow in finder
>post gets posted

An archive is just a file.
A folder is a special file.
Files.

so many apple threads. this board is literally starting to stink

>Konqueror
Even in KDE3 get highlights code in preview

>starting

Wow, I remember forklift being kind of shit but it looks like it's come a long way and might be better than Path Finder
Especially considering the live full rewrite Cocoatech's doing with PF 8 right now

it used to smell like cum and piss but now it's starting to have a shitty smell

More like fuck lift sucks dog snot dick. I need a fuckin ham sandwich with mayonnaise on white bread

The best feature is the space preview. Much better than that of other DEs.

Nah, I like Windows Explorer better. It's a lot cleaner and less tedious/frustrating to use than Finder. Everything in MacOS is messy and unintuitive as fuck, even for someone like me who was literally raised as a Mac user.

Agreed

you misspelled Dolphin

I don't think a folder is a file.

KYS MACLETS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe

Attached: 1522354533551.jpg (400x416, 63K)

It's alright. The file transfer window needs to improved upon, though.

this

Thunar is the only good Linux fm

so it finally got a parent directory shortcut and apple started shipping two button mice?

Attached: 1541549420011.jpg (1100x619, 106K)

Attached: midnight-commander-nocolor.png (700x447, 54K)

is this kanye west

>parent directory shortcut
There was never a Finder without a parent directory shortcut

Command + Up Arrow has done this for at least 16 years, try harder.

how do i amd tho?

>hourly shill posts for Lenovo, xiaomeme, huawei, Samsung
>sees 1 (one) apple thread and spergs out

why do apple users tolerate this

Total Commander. You mongolites.

I've been working professionally with Macs for over a decade and I can safely say I've never run into this issue. The mental model I have for this task is to take the contents of folder A and drop it inside folder B, which works fine when there are duplicates.

>Total Commander
Fucking disgusting.

Hold the option key to merge folders.

Only a point and click person could say that. Total Commander is the fastest way to browse and manage files

No, it's literally an ugly piece of software. Even a terminal emulator is more attractive.

I only discovered this yesterday what the fuck I've always just right-clicked on the folder title at the top of the menu bar.

It's supposed to do the job, ugly goes well with that

Command + Down takes you into a folder, you can also use Command + Left/Right Square bracket to move back and forwards. So for example if you've gone up a level and changed your selection you can't quickly go back with Cmd + Down, then you can go back with Cmd + [

If folder A and B both have an identical folder name with different contents within them you're going to nuke the differences in folder B

You're right, but that's not what I was getting at, its just in my experience a fairly rare thing to need to merge complex directory structures like this, but as pointed out, the option key gives the correct merging behaviour.
