What is a good 2d game development IDE(s), Language(s), and Librar(y/ies)?

Looking for something with 2D graphics capabilities, multiplayer capabilities that aren't a pain, and excellent performance.

Only the big engines like Unity and Unreal have any sort of polished multiplayer functionality, they can do 2D but they're primarily 3D engines

What language is unreal in?

C++ or blueprints visual programming

honestly python.
multiplayer in C++ is a pain in the ass.

nobody uses python to make games
if you want to use a high level language use Lua with Love2D

will multiplayer be a pain in my ass?

put it this way, it's easier than it would be in any other engine, multiplayer is never easy

>slowthon for gaym maeking
no

what's wrong with using python?

ok
C++, Unreal, Any libraries reccommended?
Tutorials/documentaiton, guides?

it's slow I'd assume

all graphics are hardware-rendered nowadays. and physics can just be embedded in C.

Every time the gc kicks in your fps kicks the bucket.

that's not really the issue, gameplay logic is what needs to be run
I'm not trying to attack Python, but nobody uses it for gamedev

This. If you're asking this question I assume you're not a very experienced programmer. And I will further assume you will be working on it by yourself. Lua + LOVE is the best option for you.

Lua is different than the typical conventional C/C++, Java, or Python, but it's not hard to learn and performs better than just about any other scripting language.

LOVE has good documentation and self explanatory methods which makes it extremely simple to use.

and multiplayer?

it has multiplayer support but it looks a little undeveloped

by multiplayer you mean realtime? if so, UDP is your protocol

Godot. MIT game engine. Can do 2d and 3d games. Open souce/no cost.

Uses Gdscript, which is syntactically similar to Python.

meme

>it's popular so it's a meme

multiplayer?

Why UDP?

It's a meme because everyone was shilling it despite the fact that it was new and unproven
If you're recommending a tool and the first quality you attribute to it is "it's open source", that's a red flag

It's NOT because it's popular, retard. It's because it's popular AND not AAA industry standard.

Then that means when someone recommends an "unproven" thing, it's automatically a meme. So unless it has had previous commercial success with another product, literally everything that was unproven and recommended is a meme. Which means like 90% of all products available to people was, at one point in time, a meme by your definition. Fuck I hate you epic memesters.

It's a meme when the enthusiasm is disproportional to the value, which is definitely the case with godot

You fag are just mentally ill

This thread has actually been filled with very respectful and helpful comments thus far, especially for the topic being discussed. Good job Jow Forums keep it up.

Clearly you have terrible reading comprehension. Attend English 2 and reread my previous post to see what you might have misread there. I'll still be here, trust me.
