I'm a simple man. I see the vim logo, I post the kakoune logo in order to replace one mental illness with a slightly better one.

Is there actually any reason to take the vimpill in 2018?

I've been thinking lately about the deficiencies of the Vim design. When I look at vi and its featureset, I can't help but feel that Vim went in the wrong direction in some places (macros that record keypresses, ad-hoc scripting language with a messy interface). Has anything done it better yet? I don't want to use Neovim, it just adopts the same problems.

Vis

If you SSH into a Linux box, the only editor it is pretty much guaranteed to have is VI or Vim. If you are in any ops related position, or even just consider yourself a *n[i,u]x guy, Vim knowledge is essential.

Meanwhile Gentoo Minimal CD has nano but does not have vi or anything similar to it. Seriously.

Nano.
Also, even if you have Vi-compatible, it's likely to be useless bullshit like nVi.

I use vim

Yeah, I couldn't believe that either. What were they thinking?

You know that joke that Vi has only two modes: in one it beeps and in another it fucks everything up?
You would get it if you try Vi/nVi instead of Vim/NeoVim/Kakoune/Vis.

Fedora doesn't come with nano anymore. I had to edit some repos but didn't have nano. So I had to update slow repos then dl nano THEN edit the repos.

No, I mean: is nvi worse than vi?
Also yes vi is pretty stupid, I was confused by how the backspace worked for example.

>No, I mean: is nvi worse than vi?
It IS Vi rewritten by OpenBSD guys due to licensing bullshit.
Default editor in Void Linux.

Yes you need to know how to use vi. I was just making fun of Gentoo.
Nano is just complete shit, like most of GNU
