Is 8gb of RAM enough in 2018?

Is 8gb of RAM enough in 2018?

get 32, thank me later

for what? I'm just gaming

You know that the 2600 doesn't have integrated graphics right?

Yeah I have an r390 from my current pc, so I'm going to sit on that then buy a 2080 later

also is it worth spending an extra hundred kangaroo funbux for the 2600x?

>buying a 20xx
Lmao.

Ehh, it's enough to get by, but really 16GB should be standard, and even then, i can readily use that much RAM without much difficulty.

so between a 2600x and 8gb more ram(roughly same cost) go with the ram? I have 16gb right now but it's 1600mhz, this is 3000.
Ok. What would you buy then?

>He fell for the X GB meme!
Just get 32+ GB and be somewhat future proof.

From what I've seen you're only getting an average of 3-5 frames more at 1080p so you're better off saving it for a new GPU down the line

some games have that as minimal requirement

>so between a 2600x and 8gb more ram(roughly same cost) go with the ram
for me personally, i'd go with the RAM.

Both the 2600 and 2600x can overclock, so if you're going to OC, no point really spending more on the 2600x since with decent cooling, both CPUs will cap around the same place.

8, not 32 I mean.
Of course, that only works if you don't start any other software.

nigga noone needs 32gb of ram if you're not doing photo/bideo editing

It depends on what the fuck you do on your PC. Just browsing Jow Forums and youtube you can do that with only 2GB of ram. Playing MHW will use up 6GB easily. Using shader cache with CEMU can take up 9GB alone easily.

Just get 16 GB and you won't have to think about free RAM too much.
32+ is for developing Java microservices.

Fuck me, do you know how expensive 32gb of RAM is here? When I built my last pc in 2011 RAM was cheap as chips, wtf happened..

Will there be much difference between 16GB of 2400 and 8GB of 3000?

Wait until early-mid 2019, AMD should be launching Navi-based consumer GPUs and Ryzen 2 around then.

Thanks, the 390 isn't that bad so I guess I can wait for now.

You'll see a performance drop but how much depends on the application, check benchmarks.

wtf that's a ridiculous price for 8gb

What is this priced in, leaves? If you want to set yourself up for better later you can get a single 8GB stick at a little cost to performance than drop another in when you can afford it.
You lose out on dual channel and might run into compat issues, but you won't be stuck with useless 4GB sticks.

>Wait 6 to 9 months
>Technology will be better than it is now

Thanks for not predicting nuclear Armageddon, predictionfag.

That's DDR4 ram for you. That's why I still stick with DDR3.

that's australia for you, cheapest i could find
ausland funbux, i'm just gonna bite it and get 16gb

even more of an assfucking

Attached: ddr3.png (999x610, 134K)

which fucking game requires 32gb of RAM?

COD 9 : The list of American War Crimes

Attached: American slide.jpg (1877x867, 680K)

multiboxing a small raid team in WoW

The only thing that's made me consider getting more ram is modded minecraft, that shit'll make a computer cry. Seriously some modpacks stress out my 8.

Ignore the Samshit, Crucial and GSkill shills recommending 16GB or more for future proofing when you can just add more ram in the future when it is way cheaper.
No need for more than 8GB right now if you play games with chrome and shit closed.

Yikes, what a ripoff.

no. 8gb is not enough. only chinkpad users who can only afford a $80 laptop from 2008 will tell you 8gb of ram is enough. my buddy with 8gb of ram has been having an extremely hard time playing any game since 2016. constantly running out of ram and getting crashes and such. my gf too has 8gb of ram in her computer and she always has issues and all she plays is WoW.

do yourself a favor and get 16gb. 32gb if you can afford it. having a ~reasonable~ more amount of ram is NEVER a meme.

>2011
Heh that's when I got my system I still use today, still with the same 8 gig ram, only thing that ever changed was a couple years after I went to a 770 gtx after the 560ti died . Ram price I think got affected in recent years from shortages from shit like smartphone production.

Tell your buddy and gf to stop having 100 BBC porn and facebook tabs open in chrome

You can get 8GB 3000MHz+ RAM for way less than $115 unless those are australian or canadian dollars or some shit

Nice try shill. In my 2nd PC I have 8GB and I have had no problems in any games so far.

yeah, it's ausland funbux

my main reason for the upgrade is aesthetics, 2011 me picked the most disgusting combination of components possible and i hate looking at my case (which is wayyyyy oversized for whats in it)

>windows 7 & 10 uses roughly 2gb of ram
>modern games are now using roughly 4gb of ram
>that's 6gb of 8gb
>2gb for everything else in the background
>yfw firefox will use 2gb of ram
>windows is also retarded and will start swapping to virtual file heavily after 40% of ram usage
yeah you will be running at BARE minimum with 8gb of ram. it won't be a pleasant experience. it also ruins the great multitasking that the 2600 offers.

get 2933mhz minimum along with a 16gb kit. just spend the damn money instead of being retardly autistic.

only shills promoting autism recommend 8gb of ram.

What about 12GB of RAM

lmao at 32. for me, its 64.

>stop using your computer for multitasking
>like steve jobs said about people holding their phones wrong, you're using your computer wrong. use it like how I use it!

stop using your computer for porn and petty social media

>spending more on a case than your power supply
LOL

according to the calculators i looked at i don't need more than 550w, but i'm going with 700w to be safe, what benefit is there in splurging on a psu?

>what benefit is there in splurging on a psu?
Not having it damage other parts of your system when it inevitably shits the bed?

>8
>enough
for a phone, maybe
RAM is never enough, even when not "needed" its still used to cache stuff and this speed ur shit up

you don't need a $150 case find something on sale for $50

I would rather a cheap case and 8 GB more ram personally but you can always buy a second kit later while you're stuck with a case.

best looking cheapest case i could find, as long as my build stays under my 1k budget im ok
my antec 650 has been running nonstop for 7 years with no issues lol

For me, it's 2048

I run my box with 10GB.

He's right though because graphics cards have stagnated the past two years. Nvidia is obviously trying to sell more 10 series cards with the expensive 20 series that don't perform much better. 2019 will be when we see better cards, not right now. If OP really wants to upgrade from 390, which he already said he didn't, probably get a cheap 1060 or 70
But I'd definitely wait for the next nvidia or amd cards

>Ok. What would you buy then?
1700 or better yet, just wait till zen2

Why would you buy so much DDR4 ram when DDR5 is coming soon

4GB is enough if you don't bloat your system, brainlet.

>I need 200 tabs open in the background and photoshop opened while i render and play video games
I have 12gb and have never utilized more than 6. Disable unneeded startup programs, do only one task at the time and that's it. No need for background triple digit mozilla tabs

Factory fires and racketeering.

it never was

If you do pretty much anything on your computer, you need 16GB. Web browsers take up so much that it doesn't take much else being open to send you into swap file hell.

87 chrome tabs open uses up this much RAM

Attached: chrome.jpg (593x36, 5K)

My ancient ass computer has 8gb DDR3, is it worth upgrading to 16gb DDR4 or just grabbing another 8 of DDR3?

Modded minecraft

you can't use DDR4 unless your motherboard supports it.

better off getting DDR3 while they're still cheap

thanks champ

>87 tabs
Seek help for your mental condition.

fapping is healthy

>87 yabs
>4.4 gb

What the fuck. I only open like 5 tabs and Chrome takes 5 gigs of ram

Only mentally ill people who hoard tabs recommend more than 8GB for the average user.

idk why

Attached: 1.jpg (602x836, 114K)

It obviously depends on what's on the websites.

what?? user's 80 empty tabs uses less memory than 10 active youtube videos?? say it aint so!

Do you ever max out your RAM currently? If not there's no point in getting more.

This. Even 16GB aren't enough since literally every web browser has memory leaks by now. Fuck me.

cant wait broswe 300 tabs of Jow Forums in HD

Attached: Untitled.png (704x842, 144K)

>Nvidia
>ASUS
>Intel
How's it being gay?

it's aight senpai

>Is 8gb of RAM enough in 2018?
4gb is enough

Good goy

If your mobo has space for 4 sticks just get a 2x4 kit now and another later if you need it, or even a 2x4 + 2x8 will run fine.

Why does every Australian use PCCG? They have a 5% idiot tax for not shopping around. MSY are cheaper on almost every product unless PCCG have a quick sale.
