I just snagged sn asus fx705gm for $999 (i7-8750H, 16GB DDR4 2666MHz, 3GB 1060, 512GB SSD, 17.3" 1080p IPS @144Hz and full size keyboard with numpad while still only 1.1" thicc) so I'm probably not touching the 2xxx line any time soon.
