Because of young kids and old people

lmao what kinda kid is gonna own an iPad Pro, maybe a regular iPad but an iPad Pro is overkill

>Why does the iPad Pro exist

One of the best on-screen drawing tablets for artists. A lot of professional artists (concept artists, illustrators, etc) do most of their art with the iPad pro and procreate now. It's cheaper than a cintiq but you can take it anywhere with you.

I wouldn't buy an iPad over a cheaper tablet for anything else though.

Attached: ipad_pro_2018_unboxing_4.jpg (1600x900, 274K)

missed out the part where they optimized their processor for Geekbench results and not real tasks

This and
ipad pro would benefit from running macOS and being a competitor to the surface line
it would instantly BTFO the surface lineup

>it would instantly get BTFO the surface lineup
fixed

Ive got a $60, decade old laptop that has a wacom digitalizer.

nu-artists use the ipad pro. Everyone else just carries around a intuos medium.

>Why does the iPad Pro exist
why does Android and iOS exist

We in mids of the biggest delusion tech freaks have been, those OS are a downgrade and wont ever deliver the capabilities a full fledged OS bring to the table

> i just want a simple tablet for simple tasks, nothing special said grandpa
> grandpa encounters user cases that the table is not capable to deliver in the first month of use
total trash devices

Probably to pander to pseudo intellectuals and hipsters who think "computers" are a thing of the past.

Goes for show how fucking pathetic anti-apple fags really are

>Shows a last gen benchmark score about pixel grey scale response time and doesn't bother to compare display tech

A tabletified macOS would be a much larger compromise than iPad-sized iOS has ever been. Similarly, an iOS-macOS hybrid would be a disaster on a touch device and would only have a bat's chance of hell of working well is with a proper laptop form factor.

What we really need is iOS with mouse support and a "developer mode" that comes with deeper (but still sandboxed/secure) filesystem and command line access. Keep touch the fuck out of macOS, I don't want it to become the sort of chimeric abomination that Windows has been since 8.

>Shows a last gen benchmark score
2018 iPad pro uses the same screen.

>about pixel grey scale response time
Gray to Gray pixel response time is the most important metric when purchasing a desktop monitor.

>and doesn't bother to compare display tech
True, amoled displays like 100,000 better contrast ratio, can display the color black, and consumes less power compared to IPS. Good catch.

What's a computer?

Attached: whatcomputer.png (1056x792, 688K)

>2018 iPad pro uses the same screen.
Proof?

>Gray to Gray pixel response time is the most important metric when purchasing a desktop monitor.
Since when does a consumer actually care about grey to grey response time expect for maybe the most hardcore professionals who need extremely low response time for whatever job they need it for. I know you are going to say
"Well apple marketing it as a "pro" product aiming at professionals, so they need the absolute lowest response time". Keep in mind that you're compare two completely different display technologies with various pros and cons.

>True, amoled displays like 100,000 better contrast ratio, can display the color black, and consumes less power compared to IPS. Good catch.
You didn't mention the burn in effect thats permanently shows a ghost image that can inhibit productivity, especially for those who do photo editing, and colours weakening over a long period of time or 60hz refresh rate instead of the 120hz that the iPad pro has

>Ive got a $60, decade old laptop that has a wacom digitalizer.
It's not remotely comparable, because the iPad Pro reads pen input at 120hz, has a much higher resolution display capable of far more accurate colors, and has better battery life than that ThinkPad of yours while weighing less than a third as much and taking a fraction of the bag space.

iOS is based on macOS you absolute fucking zoomer retard.

pic related, same res and same IPS tech

While you are correct about amoled burn in, it takes a very long time now due to built in hardware mitigations since the Note 5. So long that nobody using a tab S3 normally (ie not as a picture frame) has experience any kind of burn in.

Also while the iPad has 120Hz screen the response time severely hinders it's ability to display 120 images per second.

Best response time: 17.6ms
120Hz frame time: 8.3ms

What will happen is pixels will get smeared everywhere and severe ghosting, lag, and other negative visual artifacts will populate the screen

no buttons

Don't forget: low contrast ratio and very slow screen response time.

What's their excuse for not using oled on the new ipad pro

Samsung's been making oled tablets for years now

isn't 120hz oled expensive

Attached: 1445483431484.jpg (970x880, 114K)

And so is the iPad Pro

This, it's already insane how a 4ms response time oled screen was crammed on a tablet already. I was expecting around 10ms response time desu.

Then it's not worth the price if it uses inferior components. How soon will apple be switching to oled on their tablets?

no one makes oleds that size

that benchmark was apple-biased

I always wondered why my sister's ipad pro screen looked blurry when you scrolled a web page or text. Thought it was the browser/ready but after installing like 5 different ones they all had the same problem.

Attached: 1537851546430.jpg (480x580, 26K)

nigga there are oled tvs

and there are several oled laptops in that size range

Now do SW 10-bit X265 video encoding with the slow preset.

But not tablet sized 120Hz displays, yet. That'd be fucking bananas is samsung put one on the Tab S5.

Nah, 9/10 it was a gookbench/specint2006 benchmark which aren't very good at guaging AVX SIMD/SSE FP loads which is the whole point of x86.

They need to bring the response time down though, maybe 2ms for 8.3ms frame times at 120 Hz.

>tfw getting excited over a product that doesn't even exist yet

Attached: 1435602292160.png (270x394, 108K)

And there are no 120hz 12 inch LCDs either, apple just contracted a manufacturer to make them, which they shoulda done but with oled.

If this thing ran MacOS I would actually replace my laptop with it but Apple is never going to do that. It sucks because this thing is amazing but I know if I bought it I'd be back to my laptop in less than a week.

macos will eventually just be IOS, they will converge and BTFO all macfags for eternity

my dad gave up his work laptop for one and he regrets the shit out of it
touch screen input is just too terrible for any kind of prolonged or involved activity

MACTODDLERS BTFO

Attached: 1536779853766.jpg (1280x720, 129K)

No they won't, you either get a phone OS or a desktop OS, you can't mix them.

Can he notice the screen ghosting? That tablet has about twice as long response time as the average laptop screen.

I like you but it's starting to wear us out m8.

Attached: 1542000012809.webm (1920x1080, 2.82M)

I wish I could say that you're wrong but that's obviously their end game. It's a damn shame too because MacOS really is good.

don't think he's looked too deep into it since he's usually done with it after a couple minutes of holding his arm up just to perform basic tasks a mouse does better

Shame apple is late to the party as always. Oled screens might come for their tablets next year and when they do they'll call them "revolutionary" like the poor s-pen mimicry thing with the apple pencil.

DELET

Attached: 1531749038077.jpg (620x1080, 146K)

I still don;t understand the market for a high-end tablet. The iPad Pro and the Pixel Slate, these are tablets, that you almost have to buy a detachable keyboard for to make it even moderately useful. No one but a total sperg is going to sit there and on-screen type on a 12" screen. So that being the case why wouldn't you just buy a high-end laptop with a bigger, better screen and better internals. Who the fuck would spend $1500 on one of these things?

"artists"

That is one ugly wanker...

Attached: 1497956584275.png (600x448, 159K)

Speaking for myself, the wacom-or-better pen is definitely a factor but otherwise, it's just nice for normal tablet stuff to be as snappy and silky as possible. The difference between my new 11" Pro and the last generation iPad Air (which was high end in 2015/2016) is staggering. The Air never felt particularly slow at anything, but dropped frames momentary lag, etc would show up sometimes even with the version of iOS it shipped with – in other words, it was easy to tell that it was still "just a tablet" despite being powerful for a tablet.

I never encounter these things on my 11". It never gets janky and everything is instant or faster, even relatively heavy apps. Its performance really does feel more like that of a mid-high end laptop, except without the fan noise and heat.

How bad is the screen ghosting? Go to this website and tell me if the ufo's look blurry when you follow them.

testufo.com/ghosting

this

It's a bit worse than on my two 27" ASUS IPS monitors, but I have to look closely to see it. If it hadn't been mentioned I wouldn't have noticed it at all. Could see it maybe being a problem if you were playing Counterstrike on it maybe, but otherwise not an issue. Scrolling long pages and such looks fine.

Thanks, was considering getting one but I'll pass for now. Hopefully we see oled on ipads next year.

schools

its also the reason why they got rid of the 64gb iPad, as schools required at least 64gb storage, so now people are forced to pay extra for the 128

Seriously Apple, just put OSX in the fucking iPad.

>faster than an i7-7700
and you really believe that you faggot?

We're discussing what/who the iPad Pro is for.
My "argument" is that no use-case can justify its cost. Its not even a good investment for artists.
And students are better off with a fucking $60 dollar laptop than something thats going to get stolen by jamal or break from a droplet of water.

Cintiqs are overpriced garbage (because of Wacom's monopoly) but the fruity pro cannot function as a replacement- only as an intermediary because its got a fucking useless mobile OS.
Even the cintiq itself is rated as unnecessary by the vast majority of artists.

literally all of those exist in procreate

Not using OLED doesn’t mean its inferior.

DCI/P3 color gamut, HDR, IPS, and fast refresh rate are more important than million-to-one contrast ratios. Content delivery also requires having a screen similar to consumption and iPads have the most marketshare in tablet for consuming content.

But you’re not an artist so what do you know?

You’re projecting and havent a clue of what you’re talking about from an outsider looking in perspective. Dozens of my art major friends have tried and liked the pencil iPad combo, and these are students who shelled out their own personal cash for Cintiqs.

It hits the perfect middle ground for price to performance, and nothing you say about performance is true. The OS may be limiting, but the apps are nearly full featured, and better optimized than vanilla Photoshop is on a normal desktop.

Artists that make money eventually buy a Surface or an iPad Pro.
Poorfags that spend their free time with decensoring hentai pussies use an old Thinkpad.
Yeah you totally need at least 8 cores and 32 GB of Ram to draw lines. There is no way people already made art with old Samsung Note tablets and iPads without digitizer years ago.
These tablets are just sketch pads, no professional uses them to do all the work.
I personally use one of these Wacom notepads, but they're enough arists who make enough money not to think abou the price of the ipad pro that woul just laugh at you for your x220 tablet.
No offense man.

Attached: 1541055524865.png (948x928, 724K)

>Why does the iPad Pro exist
So Apple enthusiasts can make a point of conspicuously carrying, displaying, and using it in the most public manner possible so they can Think Different.

>he has DOZENS of art major friends that can afford spending 3 thousand then nearly another 2 thousand on crap not neccesary for their degree.
I wish I had a trust fund.

>Artists that make money eventually buy a Surface or an iPad Pro.
>These tablets are just sketch pads, no professional uses them to do all the work.

You said it yourself. Its more of an expensive toy than a necessary tool.
Lots of people like having expensive toys, gadgets, cars, etc. I'm just defeating the argument that its good for Artists.

Its a very powerful toy but that's all it is. My x60 tablet is *just* a toy, I don't use it for anything but shitposting or annotating pdfs so its $60 well spent.

schizophrenia makes some job possible it seems
why are you even replying to paid apple marketers ? just do your stuff, and leave these faggots eat their frozen turd ice creams

Seriously that second guy with the "art major friends" has to be a shill.
I can't believe a shred of his story when it starts with such an obvious lie.

You cannot run MacOS on these chips

Just look at this UI.

Attached: 2018-10-30-16-06-16.jpg (4032x3024, 2.41M)

YES IT DOES. HDR, fast refreah rate, DCI/P3 color gamut are all meaningless labels when the screen has INFERIOR contrast ratio, color reproduction, very slow response time, and poor sunlight readability.

You think people that do color grading for example would ever get near an iPad pro?

So this is supposed to appeal to professionals and not tranny children?

Attached: the_future_that_apple_wants.webm (1200x675, 2.29M)

that's exactly op's point, you inbred

>gookbench

First step towards DeX station.

Attached: canvas.png (640x360, 521K)

But what if iOS allowed you to run MacOS applications?

Please don't compare a toddler mobile OS to a fully fledged dex station that runs linux. Hopefully debian and ubuntu will be available soon.

Attached: Samsung-Linux-on-Dex.jpg (1031x516, 66K)

All I want is mouse support. I'd ditch my Chromebook completely as my travel / shit post machine and get all the benefits of better apps and hardware.

guy that draws loli porn for a living here, haven't ever seen a person use an ipad pro to do serious art, fuck dobson uses an ipad pro.
You either use something with wacom tech or not.

>iPad SoC can do a few more specialized tasks in hardware
Great, but not really relevant to performance of the actual system overall

That would be just as bad as trying to shoehorn macOS into touch. macOS UI elements are designed exclusively for mouse+keyboard and any attempt at making them touch friendly will end in disaster. Allowing mac apps to run on iOS is no different in that regard.

>mac apps to run on iOS is no different in that regard
How so?
I mean, While the UI won't be optimized for touch screen but the functionality shouldn't be affected much.

What is picrelated I am dumb and illiterate

It's not possible atm.
But it would be fucking goat tho

Did we ever find out?
