Why has tech stagnated?

Are boomers really that incompetent on future innovations?

Are humans really all just dumb dumbs?

>don’t come at me with “it hasn’t” because you know damn well the last decade has been completely stagnant in progression

Prove it

How can you be so hateful yet unaware of yourself and everything around you?

Progress always follows an S curve, user. Sorry if you got duped by the seemingly exponential first half.

When you step outside of the “play zone” of society and see it for what it really is, everything is still primitive as shit.
I work in the hollyjew industry and we have the latest and greatest, and its garbage.

>Are humans really all just dumb dumbs?
and what have you done to advance innovation?
oh right. you didn't do shit, kindly stfu

Maybe from a consumer standpoint but hardly a scientific one.

Lets take CPUs as an example of an area that appears to be stagnating performance wise, but actually are not innovation wise.

With typical modern CPUs we're getting so accurrate with our circuitry that we can make transistors incredibly small(I think the current min length is 50 atoms long right now).

We're at the point where we've descovered that if you make the circuitry of a typical CPU too small it's possible for the electrons to phase through the isulator.
Which as you can guess totally ruins the computation of the CPU.

Hence scientists to my understanding have generally concluded that there is a size minimum to typical CPUs and have been focuisng their efforts on quantum CPU architechture.

On another note here are some innovations in recent history I am fond of:

-Flexible and transparent OLED screens.

-Flexible mechatronics design developments, look at groups like Boston Dynamics.

-m.2 storage array prototypes for servers i.e. mass fast NVMe storage(if you've have enough pcie lanes)
Which will probably incetivise more CPU models with high numbers of PCIe lanes.

-graphite sheet replacement for thermal paste(I think this is new, but not sure, at least in the consumer market it is).

Oh if only you knew.. maybe one day youll find me.

because processors arent getting faster because of the limits of silicon or whatever

my wife is so cute!

Hate to break it to you.. shes laying in my bed with me right now.

if there was some reason to purposefully hold back progress in computing power then why aren't we all using 286s
why do we even have computers at all

>Are humans really all just dumb dumbs?
yes but i'm the dumbestest

>puts on bogdanoff mask

The people who run the planet decide when to advance society.
Haven’t you noticed a complete lateral shift?
Humans (the majority) today are getting dumber, not smarter.
The current powers are regressing us, not progressing us.

>Haven’t you noticed a complete lateral shift?
>Humans (the majority) today are getting dumber, not smarter.
People aren't getting dumber or smarter
People just have access to more information and most people don't have the maturity to be able to tell what's true and what isn't
that's how retards like you can believe shit like "in the past everything was better" despite the fact you probably weren't even alive before the internet

Is anything true?

Can you claim absolutes?

the truth is usually true

I know what you mean but the things we do have now are not bad either, just a few years ago the most I did with my phone was play snake but nowadays I can plop it into a VR set and have a cute nekomimi anime give me a simulated ear cleaning asmr, and I think that is pretty cool too. Also robots soon hopefully

But it hasn't stagnated at all?

>We now have 64core processors
>tens of terabytes of ram
>languages like Java are concerned about cpu cache misses
>We have CoW filesystems
>terabit fiber
We are advancing at a huge pace

Its unironically all your fault. While the secret technologies may one day be released, it will be only after a global cataclysm the likes of which has never been seen. Only the plebs can bring innovation to the world that we know and hate.
>muh scam

All just excuses to remain in your safe little consumer tech fantasy cuck bubble masturbating with the occasional petulant whning cry.

Okay do you have any of those features you listed?
The point here is that its “cool” that its out there.. but to only the smallest of small minorities.

We should be all shitposting on our 10GHz 64core computers with terabytes of ram & high speed networking.
The stagnation is that this stuff isn’t rolling out to us fast enough.

Tell that to my xbox one x faggot

T...terry?

Well, at least you'll be able to look back and learn from your edgy philosophy when you're older

I’m unironically jelly. I made real friends on XBL and even moved out to Los Angeles to go live with one.
Plenty friends still play on Xbox but I swore off video games, as it turns out the social aspect pretty much goes with it.

I’ll tell you my real edgy philosophy:

>be selfless
>no absolutes
>question everything

/end blog

>technology had stagnated because I'm too poor to buy cutting-edge products

No, not “im”
But goy”im”

Yep. That's how it is. There appears to be a limit on raw processing power (unless we have a breakthrough roughly as incredible as the invention of the IC). Transistors these days are brilliantly small.
You were lucky enough to live through the explosion, but here on out, the focus will be on three things:
- Gimmicks. See the MCP touchbar and foldable screens.
- Form. As with cars, we can permute fashion endlessly (curvy! square! curvy! square!)
- Software. Software is going to get smarter. This is what I'm excited about.

MBP* touchbar

I just wanna overclock my brain

>Are boomers really that incompetent on future innovations?
Boomers created effective and efficient code.
Your zoomer generation is so dumb at coding that the same quantity of UI elements coded by boomers for 2008 ends up requiring 10 times the CPU and RAM in the hands of your dumbshit generation with your poocode OP, so I don't know what you are on about when you are the problem.
Studies are also coming out that generations which grew up with computers in hands know less about using them, and use them worse, than boomers, again your brainlet generation OP.

No, Boomers are retired. It's not their problem that you children are too dumb to do the work that they did.

>Lets take CPUs as an example of an area that appears to be stagnating performance wise
>But it hasn't stagnated at all?
Compare early CPUs to what we have today in terms of progress and you'll see that it's been nothing for 10 years. The difference between the 16-bit 80286 and the 32-bit 80386 was something like 2.5x the performance from one generation to the next while also going from 16-bit to 32-bit. AMD brought some progress recently with Ryzen and EPIC but that was after 10 years of nothing. Intel's been doing barely 1% improvements from one generation to the next. They are trying again due to competition from AMD but it's not very impressive.

It's obvious that increasing performance by 2-2.5x per generation couldn't go on forever. I'm just saying that the later generations "improvements" pale in comparison.

I'm not sure if tech is stagnating but I feel people are starting to care less.
Computers and internet were definitely big stuff, smartphones maybe even bigger.
But tablets never garnered that much hype, smartwatches even less, and Google Glass was dead from the start.
Even VR isn't picked up by usually mindless consuming drones as fast as manufacturers had hoped.
Maybe, with the exception of the real gadget freaks, people are getting tired of all this stuff they don't really need.

- Retarded srum agile sofzware development
- Startups too risky
- Jow Forums has figured out that clients are r etarded and that you can sell them trash if it has M A T E R I A L "design"

Short answer: Because capitalism.

Long answer: capitalism doesn't value innovation or progress, it values efficiency and profit. As long as the phone manufacturers can keep selling the same phone with minor improvements for hundreds of dollars, they have no incentive to spend money on R&D. Spending money on R&D is a cost that will impact profits. Why do laptops in 2018 still come with 768p screens? Because people keep buying them. Why add a better screen and hurt you margins, when it doesn't affect sales?

Yes, there are people inventing and innovating on their own, but often their inventions don't gain traction because of a lack of funding or manufacturing techniques that make the product 'viable' (read: profitable) or the inventing company gets consumed by one of the tech giants so they repackage the innovation or literally hide it because again, changing manufacturing costs money.

It is in corporations' interest to keep churning out the same tech, the same shit because as long as its 'new', as in factory-new, they can justify the high prices. It's become something like diamonds. If you buy a $600 phone from a telecom company, you can probably sell it back to them for $100. Cause they know that once the phone is 'used' its value will drop, regardless of how much it was used.

And that's another thing. People have come to look at phones as something with 'mileage' or something that gets worse over time (regardless of cosmetic issues, like scratches and dinks). People will complain the battery doesn't last as long, the phone is 'slow', etc. Why do you think that in pretty much all phones batteries are non-replaceable? Because that would increase the longetivity of the phone, and therefore profits. I was watching a Shark Tank episode (because I have a sick fascination with capitalism and those who live in it) and in it the Fubu guy says "I hate denim, cause people will buy a pair of denim pants and not buy a new pair for three years."

You sound like a colossal faggot

Based and redpilled. Only right answer in the thread.

imo it's that people who don't understand the fundamentals of the technology they own and use are the people making decisions and legislation on that technology there is advancement but it's lateral instead of going forward for example instead of using IOT and such to create new "things" we haven't imagined yet were putting computers in light switches and going "wow thats fuckin cool bro" instead of asking the basic questions: why the fuck do i want a computer in my light switch? or how can i eliminate the light switch?

its because everybody figured out you can sell the same shit over and over again and STILL RAISE THE PRICES every 2 years or so.

simple magic money making machine nothing personnel kid who expects tech to level up finally.

>doesn't contribute anything

yep, people on certain demographic group are not fucking retarded at all

>Are boomers really that incompetent on future innovations?
Nah. It's just that like 98% of people are generally idiots and >99% of people are idiots except in their area of expertise.

If you think your generation is excluded, you're wrong.

we've gone from 14nm to 7nm in 2 yeas user, youre not just wrong, youre the exact opposite of correct.

Cuz everyone has become consumerist whores like you.
Don't try to blame it on boomers, they are retired and waiting to buy the farm.

Consumerist whores like you are the current economic buying power, but all you do is buy chinkshit, consume instagram and twitter shit and cry about Social Justice and Political correctness with a dab of Faggotry and Diversity. There is no incentive to innovate when they can just feed some shit about feminists and racial minorities and garner all the support and money they need pandering consumerist shit to them.

Because Idiocracy

Cringe

To use a /v/ comparison try comparing a game made by ID Software in terms of how it performs to something like Assasins Creed Origins/Odyssey and see why things stagnate.
When something is made out of love like Doom 2016 etc and something that is made purely as a cash grab like Diablo Immortal and you will see the same issue in every other tech company (EA, Activision, Blizzard, Ubisoft etc). Now look at companies like Google, Intel, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter and so on.

Why innovate when you can sell people the same old shit based on how 'shiny' a thing is instead.

It's all about the money, money, money...

VR is stillborn. The software is there but the hardware lags far behind in its usefullness. Until they can solve the problems of screendoor effect, Field of view, focal distance, being able to run it at high resolutions and high framerates without having a quad RTX 2080 Ti system or better plus having wires all around and a heavy headset shoved onto the front of your face it will never go anywhere.

Technologies are restricted by the shit they are built on like processors etc. Moore's law hit a hard brick wall reality. AMD is making small steps but really they are just workarounds.
Like someone already said the invention of the integrated circuit was a game changer. We need another game changer to pgress further.

>progress further

What do you mean? You can have a 16-core water-cooled monster with dual GPUs with accelerated raytracing and general computing capabilities that allow you to practically construct and simulate a decent passenger airplane, with production plans exported to common formats. The tech has arrived. It hasn't stagnated.
And other things you can buy? It is insane if you're curious and rich. There are 6 GHz radios with Linux, AI subprocessors and 4k HDMI outputs.

>Only the rich benefit
Sounds about right

Find 10 friends and chip in 200 bucks each, commie. Sharing tech is very cheap if you find the right people. I swear there's a group of 15 Indian guys somewhere who share one apple watch and use it for dating.

Thanks to markteting+finance+bussiness department.
These guys are not in for the progresssion of tech, but using tech for money milking.
If you want tech to actually progress, a technocracy regime should be established.

Because unlike what lolbertarians tell you, major innovations are extremely high risk and expensive, meaning private businesses are unwilling to pay for them. Every significant technological leap only happens because of government involvement to a large extent. GPS, 3G, Broadband and later Fiber, high speed trains etc. there's always taxpayer-funded infrastructure behind those or the very concept was initially developed for government/military use. And it just so happens in 2008 governments around the world depleted their reserves and investment capacity in order to bail out banks.

I wouldn’t go as far as collasal but god damn im trying

Jews ruin everything

>implying

Arm processors, gpus, ssds, and ram all improved a lot. Blame intel and amd for making no progress in the cpu market

So what you’re saying is I have to blame the Jews?

Real advancements can't be foreseen

>Are humans really all just dumb dumbs?

Basically yes.

This image is triggering me. Dogs put their paws low around the area they're humping. He would be holding her hips, not her shoulder.

Attached: 1501184975235.png (629x1173, 143K)

That's consumerism and corporatism, not capitalism itself.

maybe he's just hugging her you lewd beast

I'm not going to read the article, just because I don't want to be disappointed by finding some reason why millions of obsessive weebs WOULDN'T be ass-blasted from a reminder that a corporate mascot they wanted to think was "theirs" in fact isn't.
God, imaging that fucker from the robotics competition sobbing hysterically, after all the money he spent on the Miku merch he was wearing, just puts a big old smile on my face.

I mean, the OPs original premise was wrong
But your argument is utterly invalidated by the level of money companies do spend on R&D
>If I don't see obvious improvements personally in what I purchase capitalism is to blame and nothing is improving
>It's capitalism's fault people make poor decisions with their money
The absolute state of socialist thought

Everyone just makes node.js apps that run on x86 windows 10 and MacOS.

No-one wants to make low-level systems and so there's no longer any divergence.

Consumer tech has started stagnating a few years ago.
Only interesting things in technology are: Robotics, medical technology and military tech.
Can't wait for further advancements in those fields

All the good shit is locked inside Area 51. There's a reason they shoot to kill anyone who tries to get inside, and it's not because of a few high tech planes.

Screw your optics, I’m going in.
