Why can't I change my default video player to MPC? It was my default video player for the longest time on this windows 10 computer, but then all of a sudden it switched over to windows media player and I can't change it back again. In fact, I can't change any of the default apps. What the fuck is this shit?

You shouldn't do it through settings.
Right click on file > open with > choose a different app if the player you want isn't listed and tick the box "set as default".
The instructions may not be exactly as they appear because I'm phone posting in the toilet but basically you have to do it from the right click context not settings directly.

I'm truly sorry you are having this problem.
In order to help could you please tell me what version of windows are you using and have you checked if it is a genuine Microsoft product? Can I also please know what PC/Laptop you are using?
Do you have any antivirus/firewall installed? If so please disable those.
And lastly I need to ask you to restart your computer.
Let me know if the problem still persists.
