What's a good graphics card to throw in to a retro gaming machine?

The one and only

Attached: 035_matrox_08d_mystique.jpg (1600x1103, 495K)

What era of games are we talking? If you're into windows XP games I'd recommend a Radeon HD7900 series because it's the fastest that has XP driver support.

Even the HD7750 cards I have will max out games that came out during XP.

Yeah I think looking at xp games. I got a free old computer from work with a fresh xp install, motherboard is D815EGEW.
I have another computer for anything post 2000

As an owner of a S3 Virge videocard, i believed that pretty graphics had a cost. If i wanted bilinear filtering, 16 bit colors and transparency, the price to pay was to set the games to 320x240 instead of the 640x480x8 my CPU could do.
Then i got a monster 3D and it completely ravaged that.
It just worked, delivered better than software mode frame rates and all the bells and whistles.
And only STARTED to show signs of age with Unreal, but with unreal it was quite clear why the card was struggling a bit.

See if you can find a radeon HD5450 with a regular pci connector for that system, can't go much faster than that

>nostalgia

The 560ti was the best value for money card of the decade.

Thanks.

what?
it's 6 months old.
For me it's has been tech.

>the moment XFX severed ties with Nvidia
HD 4000 series with the timeless X58 platform was a great time to be alive.

ATI 5750, the first card I bought ever.
pls no bully

In 2002 there was nothing the came close to this.

Attached: r9700pro2.jpg (512x350, 59K)

brings me back... I played HL2 with this when it first came out

Attached: 6800gt.jpg (317x159, 10K)

Not asking my mother to let me build an X58 rig with a 920 is one of my biggest regrets in life, that P6T or whatever the fuck board would've lasted me through high school and into my 20s where I would then get an X5675 to keep it relevant.

also this was a classic... kept my room nice and toasty

Attached: 2900xt.jpg (800x600, 138K)

I had one of thems. It served me well.

Really brings me back to the teen years.

Man I am gonna look so boomer when I post pics of GCN 1.0 cards and 32nm chips in the future.

hd7970

By the time I thought HIS was a good manufacturer.

Attached: 4870_iceq4pg_3_1600.jpg (1600x1202, 162K)

The FX5800 just blew it away.
As in if you had a FX5800 operating next to a 9700, the wind would physically push the 9700 away.
In actual graphics the 9700 was much better.

The Kyro 2. It really was shit, but for a moment there it was fun the be on the side of the rebel up and comer. Other than that my Voodoo 3000 and original STB Riva TNT, it was just so far ahead of the software rendered shit at the time. After the early years they all kind of blend together, incremental improvements but nothing amazing or new feeling.

Really started it all for me. Upgraded from some Matrox shit I had that came with my PC. 1000X improvement at the time. Amazing it was only $189 or something like that.

Still have the card and the original box with the price tag on the sticker, i remember in 2007 when i first installed it and got 300 fps minimum in CSSource.

Good times.

That exact card, actually. It's what I had in the first PC that I built myself back in 2009, along with a Phenom II X3 720 (with the fourth core unlocked and a mild overclock).

those VHS nVidia cards

Card made by a defunct company bought from a now defunct store (CompUsa). It played crysis really well at 1680x1050.

R9 290 is supported and likely the 390 as well

Atı Radeon 128, not the positive nostalgia

Attached: download.jpg (255x198, 7K)

Are you sure it's not an ATI RAGE 128?

Looking back how did anyone think these were good aesthetics for a gpu

The Asus Nvidia GT210. It was the first ever graphics card I ever got.

3dfx Voodoo 3 2000 - Got two of them, and yes both still work perfect. Got original install CD to. Legends never die! Another I still got is my 6800GT.

Attached: Voodoo3-2000PCI.jpg (1022x772, 247K)

oh, and also have an original first gen Radeon card, Radeon 32mb SDR pci. Not to be confused with the later VE version (which was crippled). This baby has a fully functional Radeon core.

Amiga videocard?

The one that started it all.

Wolfenstein et never looked so good until this card arrived baby

Bitching fast 3d.

this card was huge for its time in terms of price/performance

boy what a scam that was, the fucken intel IGPs of that time were stronger

First GPU i bought for my own money, was pretty shit

Attached: msi_7600gs_agp[1].jpg (500x381, 42K)

this bad boy could hanlde HL2, GTAVC and C&C Generals and that was all I needed

Attached: serveimage (1).jpg (1000x752, 80K)

With this baby, I could finally play Half-Life 2 with no lag. 14-year-old me was so fucking happy

watching 1080p was at the same level as 4k a couple years back then

EVGA 560Ti 448 core. It was my first ever GPU I bought and I came from using integrated graphics off an Athlon X3 based build with ASRock motherboard. Ran all my games at 60fps at 1680x1050 real nice.

Attached: 560ti-448-cores.jpg (600x342, 71K)

gtx 670 was my first gpu

I bought a dozen of those off eBay about 10 years ago. Paid like $3 a piece for them, with like $40 shipping. Threw 10 of them away a couple months ago when I was cleaning out my garage. The other two are in old P3 machines I got from work.

I had this sumbitch OC'ed up to almost 4870 levels.

Attached: PowerColor-HD4830.jpg (1200x701, 235K)

For me, it's the HD5970.
I had a full coverage danger den water block on that bitch.
OC to 1,000mhz, sucked like 600W from the wall.
Ran sub 40C with a custom loop.
Too bad AMD GIMPED it hard to get ppl to buy the 7000 series.

what a gpu that was

R9 295X2
A friend of mine and I bought one on launch each, my daughter is autistic and in a fit, she shoved my computer off the desk, snapping the PCIe pins off, alongside a bunch of other damage.
I've upgraded since then, but thankfully the same friend of mine is upgrading his computer too, and would be willing to let me buy his 295X2 for about $220 (USD) - not even sure if it's a good price though haha

None. The first gpu i owned was a 560ti

3DFX Blaster Banshee

Daughter is defective, contact manufacturer for warranty replacement

I'd trade her for the card 2bh

Oh come on dont say that about your daughter.

One of my favorites in my collection of GPUs

Attached: IMG_2918.jpg (4032x3024, 2.33M)

reee why won't amd get their shit together
i wanna buy an xfx card that shits on nvidia

Is it just me or did the 560ti have a lot of really iconic cooler designs?
There were a lot of really interesting ones like the MSI Twin Frozr, Zotacs OC Editions, those amazing color striped EVGA models, etc

Life with autistic kids truly sucks, despite everything.

Voodoo2 checking in.

Shazbot!

Gefore 3, first GPU I had in my Windows 98 build.

Attached: geforce_3_ti200_nude.jpg (4264x2716, 1.75M)

8800GT really was the Q6600 of GPU's. That incredible bang/buck.

Hercules 3d prophet kyro 2 64mb Master race. The original budget "just wait for good drivers" graphics card. Seriously the prettiest pcb I've ever seen for a GPU.

I posted that on v like an house ago.

I only remember the ad in PC gamer.
Had one of those.

Had one. Most beautiful reference card in my opinion. That gorgeous black and red brick was a monster

Gonna show my age here. Absolutely ate everything I threw at it. I was outrunning mate's Pentiums with my 486DX4/100 and this bad-boy. Only lost my bragging rights when Quake and its FPU dependence came along.

Definitely showing my age(and dementia) now - forgot pic. :D

Attached: DStealth32-VLB.jpg (640x317, 50K)

It weighed so much it broke my PCI-e slot.
5lb with block.
Had to make a 3/8 rod to keep it level.
Now Danger Den, that was a company.

Attached: Screenshot_2018-11-14-22-14-14-1.png (664x516, 610K)

>danger den
Forgot about them. Back in the time when they were front runners along with Koolance and Swiftec, and when one of the smaller companies, EK Waterblocks was starting to gather momentum.

ATi Rage Fury Maxx
Have yet to encounter a card with an awesomer name.

evga 9600gso 512mb
I chose it partially because it was longer than the other option I was considering.
Which I later found out was a little faster.
Forget what the other option was tho

Attached: s-l1600.jpg (1600x860, 207K)

anything voodoo related. thats what I really started getting into pc gaming.

Another GeForce 3 checking in. That was one badass of a card. It even had hardware shader support. Sigh

Attached: gf3ti200creativef.jpg (3399x1614, 1.07M)

My first card, 4mb monster voodoo 3dfx.

It was fucking glorious moving from software mode.

Attached: monster3D_fhq.jpg (1600x949, 297K)

My niggah.

I miss my firepro v4800
My father took it out of a computer from his work and put it in my first PC
