You mean 8:5

I mean it's better than the faggy 16:9, but I would prefer 3:2.

1280x1024 5:4, perfection.

>not 1600x1200
imagine being so poor

>not using 32:9
hello grandpa

you mean 13/8

you mean 21/13

16:10 was the PC standard long before 16:9 got popular.

16:9 only got popular around 2009 or some thing.

monitors where 16:10 for half the time they have been LCD.

4:3 is better thou. only games that don't support it that ive run into is bo4 and overwatch I think blizzard has some thing against it prob because they know the pros will use it which will make esports broadcasting harder and streamers make their game look dog shit or some thing.

that's only good for sim racing and even then its shit and doesn't actually help and just adds to "immersive speed"

I'm jelly of the curve, but that is too wide.

>tfw 16:9 is standard and it's motherfucking retarded

>that is too wide.
that's what she said.
Ok, I'm out...

tfw 21:9 is all that is used for movies
glad I have 1 monitor that can play the shit without black bars..

most movies are 2.39:1
that's not exactly 21:9

>not exactly 21:9
oh noo how will I ever live
far better than 16:9 or anything else for movies..

Because it's the same aspect ratio as 256 colour VGA, which the last generation of computer (as opposed to appliance) users grew up on.

Ebil. 1280x960 (the 4:3 variant) was perfect for 15" CRTs.

>tfw you have to choose 16:9 big screen or 21:9 desk-sized monitor
Where is my 75" 21:9 film machine?

I have 4 monitors, pussy.

I have 9 but that's not the point. I want screens with specific purposes, and a true cinematic display would be valuable. Sure you can just use 2 or 3 big TVs and combine the image but you'll have bezels and color matching issues.

on 1 computer? no you don't

Not as good as 3:2, the only good thing Microsoft has ever done.
>1920x1280: fits without scaling 1080p HD in landscape and 720p HD in portrait

7 on one plus Synergy into two more.

How do I get shit to scale to 16:10. Video-wise, every fucking thing is in 16:9 now. It's aggravating to have black bars all the time.

Ignore the black bars. You don't actually watch 21:9 movies on a 21:9 monitor right?

>not having a designated 16:9 monitor for videos
I bet you don't have a vertical monitor for cell phone videos either.

16:10, 4:5, 4:3... Love them all. 16:9 not allowed in this house.

fuck you

Can someone explain why different resolutions are used, for example cinema, and how is it that 16:9 became a standard. I understand that resolutions got bigger as screen technology became cheaper, and 4:3 dominated crts, I just don't understand why there are so many choices but not 1 gold standard. Is it because companies don't want to spend the extra nickel or because consumers and normies don't know or care?

Wrong, the pixels weren't square.

Televisions started coming in 16:9 because films and other related media work well in widescreen formats.

Then the display companies realized it was easier to make more 16:9 panels than to have a bunch of different aspect ratios.

16:9 became a standard because of HDTV OTA bandwidth concerns.

It was close enough to 16:10 while retaining OTA bandwidth within public radio spectrum.

Major HDTV manufacturers also made computer monitors so it made scene to reuse the same tools and panels on both markets.

That's pretty much how 16:9 became so ubiquitous.

This guy fucks.

plz help I am unable to overclock my HP 22xw monitor to 76hz with my RX 580 which can only do it at 68hz. I was able to get 76hz with both a GTX 760ti and a 750ti so i know my monitor can do 76 hz. How do i make my RX 580 do 76hz??? Please note i am using HDMI and did so with my nvidia cards.

Because it combines the best of 16:9 and 4:3, you have both horizontal and vertical space.

What's the best 16:10 monitor to buy? Dell U2415? This is an honest question, I'm in the market.

Ask Fibonacci

Dell has great stall, but it doesn't have HDR and 10 bit colors,
You can find some LG / BenQ 27" with HDR

T. 16:10 pleb

cinema always was widescreen because the human field of vision is much wider than it is tall and the cinema has almost no limitations on screen size.
monitors started out rather squarish because CRT tubes are easier to make squarish than wide.
when LCD screens took over CRTs the technical limitations of the tube no longer had any influence on screen ratio so the industry decided that widescreen is the new normal and settled on 16:9 for whatever reason.

Because it makes you feel special, never mind that you still view content in

>Being able to see mirrors, opponents and corner apexes more reliably
>Not helping
Kindly pick one

>random machines
I have like 30 then...

monitors are listed as 21:9, but if you look at the resolution for example 3440x1440 comes out to 2.3889. Manufacturers decided that 21:9 would sound better than 21.5/9.

widescreen is a meme, 4:3 is the perfect computer aspect ratio

seeing how every fucking website now looks like it's supposed to be viewed on a smartphone, I am hoping to see a return of more square-y proportions, like the good old 4:3

it's 2.39:1
it's not THAT hard to understand
oh wait, it's for american customers...
alrighty then

Has pretty good info on what you need to do: lostallhope.com/suicide-methods/firearms

It's the irrational quantity one half plus the square root of five divided by two to one, stupid.

TRIGGERED! lol

16:10 is great because I can do stuff in actual 16:9 despite status bar

2:39:1 Would just be a yardstick.

it's 2.39:1
not 2:39:1
are you blind?

monitors have depth too retard

27" 16:10 monitor? Typically 2560x1440 monitors are the 27" ones.

I used a 600 dollar dell one for a week and i broke and we had to send it back. I would never buy one of these things

Buypig

>settled on 16:9 for whatever reason.
tv's. plain and simple. majority of tv display manufactures make computer displays as well. its easier to mass produce 1920x1080 displays that you can swap back and forth between tv and monitor displays.

less production lines, less QC mechanisms, extra.

the fuck

Just picked up the only 16:10 monitor with certified HDR support, and I couldn't be happier.
