CPU >CPUs less threads usually suffer lower 0.1% minimums >Athlon 200GE - Bare minimal desktop/gaming >R3 2200G - Light gaming(dGPU optional) >R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale >R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs >i7-9700k/8700k/8700 - If you have a $2000+ budget and pairing with a 2080 or better >R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform >Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT
RAM >Always choose at least a 2 stick kit >8GB - Bare minimum/Light desktop use. >16GB - Standard amount >32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal. Check "more" for true latency formula
Graphics cards >RTX 2000 cards; cheap models usually low yield processor. Aim for factory OC versions for best performance >use your due diligence with cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans. They may be cheap, but won't get high boost clocks like better models 1080p >RX 570/580/1060 6GB - standard 1080p 60fps+ options 1080p@144hz >Vega 56/1070ti best value, Free/G-sync monitor highly recommended 1440p@60-75hz >Vega/1070ti/1080/2070 1440p@100+hz >1080ti/2080 4K >Upscale from 1620-1800p. Or 2080Ti, but awful value OpenCL use >Vega 64
Storage >Backup before using StoreMi >Consider a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & HDD >2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB >M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard
Display >Always consider FreeSync w/ AMD cards >START YOUR BUILD WITH A MONITOR FIRST, then make a build to drive it appropriately
- how do VA monitors compare to TN? is that one picture that gets posted in every thread a meme, or does it accurately represent the color differences?
- my goal is just to game at 144 FPS @1080p as cheaply as possible, on actually decent (high) settings, what's the go-to build for this? I know 2600X/RX580 is the go-to for midrange, but what for this? Based on benchmarks, it looks like the 2080 Ti is the only card that consistently gets 144 FPS in the latest titles, is that wrong? Is there an alternative that isn't literally $1500?
Some VA actually have better color than a bad IPS. Like the Samsung QLED. LGs new ones are really nice as well. And they have more contrast. But a good IPS has, noticeably, the most accurate color still.
> it looks like the 2080 Ti is the only card that consistently gets 144 FPS in the latest titles At 1080p? Idk I'm sure there's plenty of games that run too shitty to get 144fps even on a 2080Ti. There are also many games locked to 60-120 fps.
Poor workers.
Carter Cruz
what can I get for 400-500$ that will be a good workhorse like this has been? i only do shitposting, video watching (which the gpu can handle well enough), and compiling firefox and such.
i would only need a (big) case, cpu, ram, and motherboard, everything else is fairly recent and working well. help me out Jow Forumsentoomen

>this other guy will be able to see me 0.008 seconds sooner than I see him, so he'll beat me!
What gamers actually believe.
Oliver Garcia
Do you have a discrete GPU already?
Aaron Gomez
traps > women
Jacob Green
I don't care about that or see what it has to do with my post
Brody Ross
>my goal is just to game at 144 FPS >on actually decent (high) settings I hope you've got a damn good CPU or a really OC'd one
>artic freezer 33 >deepcool gamaxx 400 >be quiet pure rock slim which one to use if I want to overclock a 2600? any other recommendations? I just want a cheap nice cooler for my poozen
Why the fuck didn't you told me that resolution scaling is absolutely retarded? I was using 1440p with the same effective space as 1080p.
Cooper Butler
Did /hsg/ die? Anyway my file server/ media center is kinda loud. Should I move it to a larger case, or should I buy a NAS to stick in a closet and remove all the fans.
Ryan Reed
>Why the fuck didn't you told me
Thomas Jenkins
>Anyway my file server/ media center is kinda loud. Should I move it to a larger case, or should I buy a NAS to stick in a closet and remove all the fans. step 1 don't keep it in your living room like a pleb, no harm in keeping it in the closet
Luke Sanchez
Because you didn't ask, brainlet
Cameron Gutierrez
Right now it's also a media center, it's what I use to play video on my TV.
Blake Clark
Someone repost
Dylan Rogers
Does anyone have an recommendations for a 1440p monitor 144hz with gsync
Wyatt Peterson
I do the same but it's pretty quiet, what is loud about yours? I don't think my fan even runs in mine. I actually ran out of space so I started adding USB 3 HDDs lol
I want to replace the fan on a CPU cooler, but other 120mm fans have the standard three plug while it looks like my motherboard has a 4-pin plug. Guessing the 4th pin is for speed control or something? Do I need to be searching for a specific kind of fan?
Anthony King
it was a boipucci
Zachary Garcia
>with gsync Good goy
Christian Jackson
It's a Node 304 and I have all six bays occupied, plus all the power cables. There's no CPU fan so I have to keep the three case fans on constantly. Also Node 304 doesn't have automatic fan control, you have to choose one of 3 settings manually.
Cooper Bennett
I had a 290x until 6 months ago, was gifted a 1080. I'd get free sync and do the hack but I don't trust Nvidia to fuck that up.
>Use case Normal gaming and general use. Looking to try out PUBG.
>Monitor Currently using a 60" LG UHD TV until we get a monitor
Building for a relative on a small-medium budget. There are no case fans, but that will be dealt with. Mainly concerned with the motherboard, memory, and power supply >Mobo Terribly not convinced this is adequate for future expansions / future-proofing
>Memory Is using CL16 "okay" with Ryzen? No CL14 here except for 2666 or 2133 speeds.
>PSU Fuck, this is the most difficult bit. I trust and have an EVGA G2 850W in my own PC, but the cabling is like a nigger's dick and the connectors get stuck in the horrible sockets. I don't trust Corsair PSUs, but there are no other alternatives in this country except Thermaltake and chinkshit.
>There's no CPU fan so I have to keep the three case fans on constantly why dont you just tone down your autism? I don't understand this shit. You know what I use? An older Atom board, J1900, with a passive CPU heatsink, in a fairly tiny case, and then I run the SINGLE 140mm fan or whatever it is at a very low RPM. no heat issues.
Eli Clark
>(We are not US-based) do you have multiple personality disorder?
better off getting a RTX 2080 and pair it with a 9700k
in terms of mobo Gigabyte make the best Z390 boards
Easton Gray
You didn't even say what you are going to play, but games like Overcuck and CS:GO are optimized for Intel CPU's.
Ayden Kelly
>better off getting a RTX 2080 might as well just get a single 1080 Ti at that rate, right? meh
I'm going to play Battlefield V exclusively, I've put 40 hours in since launch! it's awesome.
Carter Harris
1080 ti's cost the same or more than RTX 2080 and Battlefield V runs better on the RTX cards
Tyler Brown
honestly I feel like a dumb goyim considering going above like 2600X / RX 580, the diminishing returns are intense. I have to spend at minimum 300% the cost of the simple 2600X build just to get like 50% more frames, yikes
is core i5 good enough for gayiming? im not talking mlg
Dylan Diaz
That happened to me yesterday. Scheduled delivery was for yesterday, no update for 12+ hours, rescheduled to today, then rescheduled again to tomorrow.
Dylan Nguyen
Yes, but intel cpu prices are pretty high right now, so if you're not trying to get into high refresh rate gaming, get a Ryzen 5 2600/X instead.
Charles Rivera
I can get at least 56 fps on my 2400G? I actually feel pretty good about that, that's playable. Noice.
im buying it becuase right now i can get it for 150 bucks, also it comes with 200 hdd and 4gb ram can i change the ram to 6? i know i can change the hdd (or at least look for youtube tutorials)
Which i5? What monitor do you have and what GPU are you pairing it with? >6GB ram Get at least 2 sticks of the same capacity and frequency RAM to utilize dual channel for better performance.
Owen Price
>closed loop pulling air in from front why?
Camden Morales
why not?
Elijah Scott
What's the non-retarded version of this? I actually want to get into high refresh gaming.
Got any tips?
Blake Evans
What's wrong with that?
Juan Gray
Pulls hot air into your pc?
Cameron Bailey
>what GPU are you pairing it with? i honestly dont know im buying it from a store and the monitor is and with a lcd 19'
Jose Ortiz
This is bait
Carson Perry
why would there magically be hot air in front of my case lol
Colton Garcia
How much hotter do you actually think that air is?
Hudson Sanders
>120mm AIO >4x as many exhaust fans as there is intake
Adrian Hughes
How do you tighten timings on memory? Is there a tutorial anyone can recommend?
Charles Moore
x as many exhaust fans as there is intake it's called negative pressure dumbass
Ayden Hall
It's not about refresh time but more about the smoothness it delivers
John Kelly
If they didn't mention a GPU with the PC, then it's probably running on integrated graphics. Is it an old prebuilt PC? Ask for the full spec sheet then come back, 150 dollars might be a little too much for all of that. >19" monitor It's probably 1600x900 or 1366x768, upgrade to a decent 1920x1080 monitor soon if you want gaming features like Freesync and high refresh rate. Check the OP. 8700K if you can find it near or below SRP, 1070Ti or Vega 56 if 1080p 144Hz. 16GB is plenty.
Ayden Mitchell
>Check the OP. 8700K if you can find it near or below SRP, 1070Ti or Vega 56 if 1080p 144Hz. 16GB is plenty. is B-die important with the 8700k? Any reason not to go Vega 64?
Christopher Gutierrez
No fucking shit Sherlock. Why would anyone do that to themselves?
Isaac Thompson
indeed its an old prebuilt pc, i live in a 3 world shit hole so thats good as it gets
Hunter Fisher
Out of the loop here, is freesync just vsync but without input lag? Can someone tl;dr it for me? Thanks bros!
