Self hosting isn't really an option given the time required for maintenance. I will consider the points you have made (and incredibly hard to read picture), but for someone escaping from google it's probably not a bad start as a step from normie-mail.

Tutanota is better. Protonmail doesn't have an open source email app and doesn't work with 3rd party mail apps. It's basically a walled garden.

good, all encryption is done on the sender's computer and all decryption is done on the reciever's computer. Only issues with is this is no imap without paying for a premium protonmail account.

I will look at the source code and security/encryption system this week, I have little prior knowledge to this comment:

- no independent client, hopefully the protocol has open specs and it's possible
- when opened in web browser, the whole fresh program is loaded to you, you have no control over that being the - version you have always used nor when update comes. could contain spyware
- which also mean that properly configured TLS (and TLS working but assume it does) is also a requirement
- web client made in Node.js. depends on dependencies and how much protonmail devs audit them, but even dependencies can steal keys
- my bigger question is how the login works, hopefully some client-side PAKE, otherwise you are sending them your privkey
- if you don't use their encryption method, you don't really need to care much about it, PGP is solid workaround for any email provider

but from technological standpoint - email is poorly designed anyway

lots of sites don't accept emails from emails that don't also have your phone number.

if you made google years ago and never used it on a android you might be good or linked it to a facebook that had ya number..

but otherwise you are fucked I think. its prob a NSA rule desu. you might be able to buy a old gmail account with no phone linked from someone but they all force it now and the ones that don't are not accepted on like 99% of sites.

Fastmail is the greatest one around. Mailbox.org is pretty cheap too and has built-in mail encryption as well.
