How close are we to singularity?

Pretty close

how close senpai

Yes

We can't see the singularity because we're right in the fucking middle of it

Fermi paradox
We will nuke ourselves to death before the singularity.

Nothing in nature is truly exponential.
The singularity is a scam.

Close enough that God decided to intervene, slowly but surely he's making his presence known.

>How close are we to singularity?

Your mum still hasn't reached critical mass yet but she sure is damn well trying :^)

No, 50 years ago people say in 2001 we will had spaceships like '2001:a space odyssey', nothing happens.

Singularity is autism cope "but Technology will fix it".

about tree fiddy

we could have big spaceships, there's just no point, it's incredibly expensive and you gain nothing from it

Not even close. Kurzweil has a crippling fear of death, which is why his predictions are so optimistic. It's a religion for him. His whole basis is "if this exponential trend continues...". Pic related.

Close enough to see this type of music poping up. youtube.com/watch?v=gYG_4vJ4qNA

2.5 years
JK never going to happen, another pseudo-academic buzzword
it's impossible to fully emulate even a cerebral ganglion of a worm on a computer, let alone the brain of a mammal, let alone homo sapiens. You grossly underestimate the operative complexity of an ultra-large nonlinear system that is our brain.

shitty Rammstein rip off

Singularity isn't even the correct term.

Convergence is the more accurate term. It is the point where you cannot make a distinction between technology and the human element.

The whole geometry growth you see in singularity charts is actually energy consumption from computing.

In any event, we are still a long way from hitting it. We are already hitting the practical limits of digital computers on the hardware side. The software side will come shortly after.

We barely scratch the surface on alternative computing models.

we'll see.

This is him now, feel old yet?

I like the guy and was reading up a lot about the singularity in ~2007, but 10+ years later i've only become more jaded about it. While his "predictions" come true, they're usually about 5-7 years off and a lot more unimpressive compared to the embellished way he describes them.

>1999: By 2009 every musician will frequently jam with virtual AI musicians and it will be the most normal thing!
>Actual 2009: Lol we named our TTS engine Hatsune Miku

He’s full of shit

Grimes has always made shitty music

further away than we ware. Once this generation dies out, muslims and niggers will inherit the world.. and they will digress us back into Middle Ages..

We don't gain from millions of little niggerrefugees, bit still they did let that happen. Really makes you think. Is it god that wants us to suffer? Or that small elite group we've been hearing about?

...

There won’t be one, and that’s probably a good thing

Fuck off with this singularity garbage.
Accept that you will die and there will be no AI god to save you.

This, A researched literally found that all these famous futurologists, both alive and dead, always predict that "muh singularity" will occur a very convenient number of years before they die.

Like, non of these charlatans ever says "this huge advancement in science that among other things will make humanity immortal" will occur some years after I die.

stop putting faith in materialistic determinism and surrender yourself to Christ

fucking this. It's become so obvious after the last 7 years too and it will happen to GPUs too.
Also quantum computing is fake and gay. You're all getting pranked H.G. Wells style

well, this is not a future depicted in this post, but the fucking PRESENT (at least from my own point of view)

>and it will happen to GPUs
Not really, in fact they will see a big boost once they start using chiplets like in epyc. Moar cores unironically works for GPUs.
>Also quantum computing is fake and gay
It's not, but it won't replace traditional computers either. It will only boost a specific subset of algorithms that are already parallel.

Good thing my subjective experience will only continue in the Everett branches where this doesn't happen.

>tfw immortal

Stop using that word like you know what it means. There is no singularity. There are monumental technological points that are going to happen. Like post-scarcity, post-aging, and post-human. But we're at the very least centuries away from any of those. Probably millennia.
