real arcade let me play most of the classic SEGA games on my shitty windows 2000 compaq. Also captain claw.
I forgot how but the time limit thing they had was really easy to abuse. They gave you the full fucking game and let you play it for 90 whole minutes.

People only installed this shit because every fucking video back in 2001 was in .mov format.

What was Real Player's business model? Why did anybody use them?

>implying

Until they made it a paid "pro" feature, Quicktime player could be used as a barebones video editor.

Nobody truly likes it. People only tolerate it.

This gave me fond memories of downloading 50mb rmvb Dragonball Z episodes from shitty Lycos sites.

Attached: UTorrent_(logo).png (200x200, 43K)

fuck, you just reminded me i bought a dragonball z burned cd set of episodes off ebay in the mid 2000s, to say i was disappointed when they in fact turned out to be 50meg rm files was an understatement. i think it was like 25 bucks.

Including all the best porn clips. thanks for the nostalgia my dude

...

That's the only torrent client anyone actually likes.

What did he mean by this?

I bet the Adobe shills will still try to defend this

i unironically like the ui/theme. everything else can fuck off though

This thread just made me remember msn explorer :(

Adobe shill here. Get that piece of shit out of here.

100%
it's prevalent only because it was forced on an early PC community via malicious (anti)market practices. When someone doesn't take seriously the idea that Microsoft is evil, laughs it off and thinks it's all ironic clearly doesn't remember what they did in the 90s and 00s - they are the pure abominable evil. Apple didn't come close.

Grandpa here.

Everyone liked ICQ.

realtek audio control panels, plaguing computers since 2001
quicktime, mercifully killed by HTML5 compliance
sadly not flash but I wish it was
adobe air, why the fuck to people still develop for that?
itunes if you are not an applefag, remember when it came bundled with quicktime?
internet explorer, except companies with old computers, for some bizarre reason
windows ME

Wrong. Transmission is the only torrent client anyone actually likes.

Holy shit, nothing but someone bringing it up directly would have ever reminded me of that. Why did they even bother trying to pass that pile of shit off on anyone?

As for Real Player, it was once the best player anyone offered for GNU/Linux. I was at least grateful they went to the trouble of creating something for us.

> can still remember my ICQ number
> fucked if I can remember my mobile number
It was only 5 digits though

>liking any anti-virus at all

Deluge.

It fucking blew my mind when it) the computer gave me an audio greeting and said my name

I forgot all about .mov lol. The latest version of quicktime is fune but mpv is still better

Remember when you used to be able to download YouTube videos with realplayer

don't you mean software no one uses?

??? Winrar is fucking based

Quiet down, Luke

The UI is/was always better than Unity. Even in 8 and 10.

Seriously, Microsoft had to fuck up more massively than usual, so even regular people got fed up with it, and then Canonical had to fuck up even harder than that, so you couldn't really recommend Ubuntu to those people.
2012 could have been the Year of the Linux Desktop, and the only reason it wasn't that is Canonical. Fuck those retards.

>Not using glorious Russian 7Zip
ISHYGDDT

But I do like Real.

At least up until their last 2 versions which had malware.

You still can but I gave up on Real when a recent version had malware.

Oh God, yes!
I used a DBZ sure from the Netherlands, though
They had some other good anime uploads there

NOD32 v2.x was pretty based.

I used that for a bit, fun times

post good software no one uses anymore

Attached: winamp.jpg (317x500, 72K)

Honestly, it was shit at first, but Unity unironically shaped up to be one of the best put together, coherent, polished DEs in the Linux ecosystem. In its final years, I don't really recall having any moments that made me think "wow this sure is janky!" like I've had with every other DE since using Unity. I think it really held its own spot and served well as the "face" of the Linux desktop, it was distinctive. My only real complaint about the UI was the "dash" menu, which was just an unorganized clusterfuck, but other than that I thought it was pretty good. It also wasn't very tweakable, but hey, it "werked".

Now Canonical has totally given up on the desktop and replaced Unity with GNOME, which is an absolute abomination and 50 steps back. It makes me sick to my stomach when I look back on news articles and threads from the release of 18.04, and everyone is saying "Ubuntu is better than ever now that it's made the switch to GNOME!!" Other than that, the only other "modern" DE is KDE, which has some nice things going for it, but is still plagued by an absolute lack of polish in my experience. Everything else is pretty much a WinXP knockoff, with varying degrees of success.

>captain claw
noice

I really miss the menu search you could do with the the Alt key.

Attached: 300px-NewTux.svg.png (300x360, 39K)

The HUD was fantastic. A lot of the Unity replacements have yet to really implement it perfectly/at all, and I still don't feel like any DE out there really comes close to being the complete, overall polished product that Unity was. GNOME *sort of*, but it's a piece of shit for a million other reasons.

Plus a global menu implementation that made sense.

kek, such bullshit. Porn was mpeg1/2 99% of the time.

The one that sent all input to Amazon?

Took literally one toggle switch to turn off.

This thing is a piece of shit, mpv is THE GOAT. VLC can only ever be tolerated, mpv just fucking werks.

You know, back in the days you could actually trust your software to not stab you in the back without asking.
Now it will keep stabbing you until you find the off switch.

Worst example: Firefox.

Never understood why people used this garbage back in the day. The original mpc and ffdshow were around at the exact same time and performed much better overall.

works perfectly in wine too

the latest KDE version is actually quite good. far more polished that older versions. I haven't been using it for an extended period of time but so far it has been fantastic.
inb4 >t. KDE dev

It was well received at the time until everyone first moved to MSN Messenger and then Facebook. Countless hours playing pool against friends.

>7-Zip is 4 free (read: four free)
>people still willingly install WinRAR and close the ad window in the beginning every time

I always wanted to use icq to be a cool 12 year old hipster but everyone had normalfag AIM

>trust
you're just a little baby

based

I just paid for it. The developer seems like a good lad

I still use winamp. Shit just werks, why would I switch?

Attached: win10_05.png (941x585, 224K)

Sure, and you look at the source code yourself before compiling it with a compiler you have made yourself, running on a machine you have entirely built yourself, right?

You are implicitly trusting dozens, hundreds, thousands of people whenever you are using software or hardware.

no but idgaf

ANYTHING Adobe.

Hey I like photoshop
I even paid for it
Still use it,As soon as something comes out that's a direct upgrade and not pointless gimmicks then I'll stick with it.

I wish ICQ was popular instead of MSN where I lived, MSN gave me the first experience of an application with ads built into it. I've dreaded ads in applications ever since and refuse to use anything that has it.

get one glimpse of old software and you have to reminisce about your shit life, fucking kill yourself you retarded sad boomer

Based and redpilled.

I like the pre-10 interface and general brand image of Windows from when Microsoft was just a soulless corporation that didn't try to pretend to be otherwise. NT's history and VMS-isms are also pretty cool.

Attached: Gnomelogo.svg.png (440x534, 16K)

VLC's purpose in life is really to just be able to play fucking anything, including raw RTMP and DVB streams. No other software can do this.

Hey I like VLC. How else am I supposed to watch .mkv?

it just werks

Bazinga

Everything on Palm was cosy.

Sent from my Traffic Light Bounding-Box Input device.

At least the javascript is Free software.

VLC is what put an end to all the codec bullshit. I remember the fucking kazaa codec pack full of malware.

mpv

My brother still uses Adobe PDF.
I suggested him to try out Sumatra and he called me autist.

I'm amazed people still use this.

Show him Luke's video about adobe reader
