No, chances of actually damaging anything is to small when just occasionally working on a single PC. I do use one in a production environment, though. Plus EMC compatible shoes and jacket.

This, but only EMC shoes and not the jacket.

No I'm too lazy

If I'm working on someone else's stuff then I might make one out of speaker wire

I do it at work so my boss doesn't yell at me.

no lol

Worm.

No, I leave it plugged in and earth myself by biting on the frame while I work.

just hold the frame lol

I always stick my finger on the ground tab of the socket (glorious schucko) before poking inside my pc
should be good enough

How long do you hold it though? Also is it just like, hold it barely or more like caressing?

You don't even have to hold it just touching it periodically discharges any static electricity your body might have.

whats the emc value on those shoes?

8,192 EMC

No, these are like pocket protectors. They make you look like a huge fag.

How about anti-static socks

I touch a radiator pipe before working inside a pc case.

Nope.
The first thing I always do when building a new PC is place the power supply in to the case and plug it in and whamo zamo its fucking grounded. So every time you touch anything on the case afterwords you're already regounding yourself and the other devices you're placing in it.

I can just tap on schuko to ground myself
Based eu plugs

Most of the time it's too humid here to accumulate static. I remember taking a vacation to the rocky mountains and getting shocked for the first time. It was bizarre. If I lived somewhere like there, I would wear one.

It has an impedance low enough to discharge your body but high enough to not make a shock from mains more dangerous. It's probably somewhere between 10K and 100KOhms

being naked is important

> using bloat that reduces range of motion
use a anti-static buttplug grandpa

When working on my own machines, no. However, I'm required to wear one at work.

I should but I don't cos I'm retarded.

What was the sin of your retardation?

This is the correct answer.

>He wears it on his wrist like a good boy

You can stick em on your ankle, same almost nonexistant effect.

>today
>replacing cpu cooler
>sitting on the carpet
>had to unplug everything and remove motherboard to remove the old cooler bracket from the back of the mobo
>use magnetized tip screwdriver
>place graphics card and other components on the carpet
>twist and slightly bend mobo to get it out of old crusty case
>place it on the floor (with the cpu and everything facing carpet) while i force the old bracket off
>smear the thermal paste from the new cooler on different parts, and on carpet
>remove dust bunnies by hand from the back of the board where they were stuck
>plug everything back in, put it all back in the case
>it just werks
;^)

don't go off on a tangent now

i wear a calculator watch with the metal backing making skin contact, does that count?

Only when working on someone else's equipment, ie back on my support job that would be a customer's computer.
