Its like theres this chain of blocks. Everybody has the exact same one. So there are multiple copies of the chain.
Each block on the chain has a math number attached to it. If you change what the block has inside it, you change the number for that block. This will break the whole block chain because the number of the next block is calculated using the number of the previous block.
This combination of everyone having the same chain, and all the blocks having to verify each other through math, makes it highly secure.
Thats why people care about blockchain.
