I used to have that book of hers. It was old, like from the mid-90s and had a large collection of transcribed calls from listeners. One thing I could never get over (and I say this as a frequent contributer to /retro/ threads on Jow Forums) was the contempt she had for anything old, like that 5.25 disks were "as ugly and outdated as a leisure suit" and telling some guy with an old Wang 286 that he should just buy a new machine.

I don't run windows at all but steve's got experience in all of them I'm sure. Not necessarily desktop-linux which is pretty niche but back in the 90s everyone had some unix machine somewhere they had to work on occasionally.

Multiplayer games are a rarity on Linux. You have an excellent exception which on the surface might be a HotS replacement, DotA 2, but I hate that game. You have shittier graphics, one map, WAY harder (and less fun, IMO) gameplay where you're buying items every 4 milliseconds or sucking ass, less endearing characters, etc. :C It's just not the same.
And it's not like HotS is AMAZING. There are four ludological dimensions to consider here:

1. Spectacle - how pleasing or impressive the game is in a raw, immediate sense (graphics, music, sheer scale)
2. Narrative - how much immersive worldbuilding and storytelling it has
3. Gameplay - how deep the gameplay is
4. Social - how much social interaction there is

No game can score highly on all four of these dimensions. I think it's impossible. If one did, it'd be amazing. A high score on all four is the closest thing to an optimal game profile.
IMO, HotS scores thusly:

Spectacle: 8/10
Narrative: 0/10
Gameplay: 5/10
Social: 8/10
