Help me understand AOSP, Jow Forums. From what I know, the source tree only has branches for Google devices like Pixels. But what if I buy a non Google device and want to run AOSP? If the firmware and drivers are available, can I just compile the master branch or something and flash it, with everything working? AOSP instructions from Sony say for their devices I need to target a Pixel branch, but I still have my doubts.

have we reached "peak smartphone" no matter if you use a $200, 400, 600 or $1500 phone, they all perform very similar. even the cameras are getting closer with each generation. the only improvements we get are very small performance increases, the biggest "innovations" are getting rid of bezels no matter the cost. The best examples are the Vivo Nex or Oppo Find X or even the iPhone X/S/R, they all try to find a solution to a problem that never really existed and that with big compromises. And people don't buy as many phones anymore, back in the early 2010s when your phone was 2 years old it was unusable crap, today even something like an iPhone 6 or a Galaxy S7 can still run everything as fluid as modern devices. I think we won't see any significant changes to smartphones anymore and everyone is rather waiting for "the next big thing"

It's not a coin flip, the results will depend on what version of GCam you're using, the comparison is useless if it doesn't specify that. I'd bet it'll look better if it was using the latest Pixel 3 GCam port with Night Sight.

I've used the normal AOSPExtended build for the Moto G5 Plus. I wasn't trying to find a solution here on spg thats why I didn't mention it It's just that people everywhere are suggesting to inexperienced people to install custom roms, if stuff like big bugs happen then people like you and me try to report it. But try to explain to someone else who might not want to deal with this that a feature doesn't work anymore. I actually love custom roms, but many people especially here claiming that this is a valid solution for anyone is just wrong
