You can download all the data they track. They track your location, operating system, and any games you open. Executables that don't match their games database are not tracked.

Riot is a client for Matrix. Matrix is an open chat protocol, and Riot is FOSS. You can self-host Matrix servers if you wish.

Discord lacks alternative clients, is not FOSS, and is not based on an open protocol. Everything that has ever happened on Discord lives on Discord's servers, and you can probably bet they are selling your data. Slack is similar in that every Slack instance in existence lives on Slack's servers.

The success of Matrix & Riot would be for the betterment of everyone.

I inquired about how Discord might be selling your data, not even told him just politely brought it up "you know I heard something a while back about discord selling information, you ever see that?" apparently it's the hottest platform for ERP, though I have yet to see this firsthand. I mainly use it much like how I used Steam, so just to talk with people I know irl, and I'm active in only one server (my old workmates' server) so I didn't end up getting in on all the ERP fun people are apparently having with this thing.

I'm surprised there aren't more stories of people getting v& on Discord, but that might be because said people are getting v& on Discord and not on Red 4channel. I think a lot of people jumped on it after Facebook became unpopular due to its botnet shenanigans finally catching up with the normans that used it the most, because I remember a lot of the people that used to coordinate stuff over Facebook fan pages do so over Discord servers now. Eventually, Discord will also fuck up with all the data it stores, and people will abandon it for whatever the next hot botnet thing will be.
