Windows is like flying on a plane. It will get you to your destination in 2 hours safe and sound with very little effort on your part.
Linux is like riding a bicycle. It will get you to your detination in 2 weeks, with a gargantuan amount of effort on your part. But hey, at least you get to customize your bicycle, right?
Totally correct. Linuxbois are running away in fear,
Aaron Harris
The reason these sorts of trolls don't get the (You)s you crave is that freetards have some sort of pride in the fact that they waste time and effort getting to their destination the hard way. They actually believe that it makes them superior in some way to the "/v/toddlers running Wangblows". It's pure delusional bullshit, but that's no-life turboautists for you. See Theodore Kaczynski's "Industrial Society And It's Future" - specifically, the paragraphs on surrogate activities - for a fuller explanation.
This. If you haven't read ISaiF, you are a fucking unironic NPC. The guy may have been mad, but his analysis was so exactly spot-on, we could use it for inertial confinement fusion.
I don't know why people have to get angry over things like this. I use Linux on my laptop and PC and if someone asks about it, I tell them what it is and nothing more. If they continue asking, then I take them down the rabbit hole, but I emphasize that whatever works best for them (function and ideals) should be their first and only option.
What software does Microsoft produce for other platforms which don’t have suitable alternatives besides office dad suite?
Nathaniel King
I read it a while back and felt it was just an affirmation of what I already believed. I think Mr. Kaczynski took his realization a bit too far, but it is definitely a composition I will always remember.
>if only Microsoft produced software for Windows Not >if Microsoft only produced software for Windows.
Brody James
not even a freetard, but his whole surrogate activity part of his manifesto is the only bad part about it, if it wasn't for that silly idea the thing would've been solid
Angel Sullivan
Kaczynski's manifesto is shit and reads like every single rant by the 2deep4u guy that took intro to psychology and watched YouTube videos on phylosophy, only difference is it has better formatting. I actually had a low-key "respect" for the guy in his fight for his ideals before reading it. He might have been a genius in mathematics but he's a dumb sperg when it comes to studying/understanding human behavior
Jackson Lewis
On the contrary, I found the surrogate activity paragraphs insightful, and a highlight of his manifesto. A very logical extension of Marx's writings on fetishism (I hated the guy, but he's another one with an excellent understanding of the human condition). When these writings are internalised, a lot of people's more stupid behaviour - especially regarding what they do in their spare time - makes perfect sense.
Kayden Rogers
just use what works and what you're comfortable with I run Windows on my primary machine because it's zero effort, I run Linux on other machines because it just works there and I'm using them for different things than my main machine
most of my issues against Windows are how stupid Windows 10 is (windows update has been garbage for nearly 20 years now and it's got forced update, that's a real good mixture, windows 10's new "modern" application style fucking blows, things like that) all I want is something comfortable that works, and Linux distros largely provide more of that as time goes on while Windows provides less (see the whole GNOME 3 and systemd fiascos for major exceptions)
Elijah Baker
Except windows can't do proper file permissions so it's basically worthless.
Josiah Nelson
Well at least it isn't a food anaogy...
Ryder Diaz
while what he said about surrogate activities is true, it doesn't mean that they are bad what's wrong in trying to always do better? the only criticism I remember him making was that it can lead to a depressed state from failures he seems to want everyone to be content and comfortable there's a reason why we even came this far in the first place, because we don't want to be content
Austin Rogers
you retards have clearly never even used it. It is not difficult to use nor do you have to spend any time configuring it if you don't want to.
Brody Walker
Far too many sweeping generalizations for me to be able to take it seriously. It's been a few years since I read it, but one of the parts that irked me the most was his causation between leftist values and ego issues. He might even have had a point, but so little is devoted to presenting and developing the core concepts of the manifesto that they don't hold on their own, instead of reading like a critical analysis it reads as an opinion piece. What bugged me the most is that the guy was a PhD, there is no way in hell he would imply correlation = causation in any truly scientific text. I don't hate him too much though, ever since netflix did a series on him I'm finally able to explain my thesis (discourse analysis) to people with a cool example
Josiah Lee

Grayson Collins
Windows is a car, linux is a truck.
Sebastian Anderson
where did you learn to lie so well?
Ayden Thomas
>while what he said about surrogate activities is true, it doesn't mean that they are bad >what's wrong in trying to always do better? I didn't say they were ALWAYS bad - but like anything, unforeseen bad outcomes can arise. Without delving too much into philosophy: looking after your newborn child is good, yes? In fact, it's almost universally considered "bad" not to. But what if you're Alois or Klara Hitler, raising your new baby? I doubt we're actually arguing at cross-purposes here. I'm just acknowledging the stupidity of people; their remarkable ability to convert something fundamentally good into something fundamentally bad at the drop of a hat. OT (not that we already aren't): is anyone else getting lots of those fucking annoying "long slow fade-out" CAPTCHAs this evening?
Nicholas Carter
>irked me the most was his causation between leftist values and ego issues See, I don't see a problem with this. mode ON, no ban plz I long ago realised that leftism indicates a level of childishness/"feels-oriented" living - see constant demands of MOAR from the "authority" above (wants to be looked after by parents), socialised/communised property (what's yours is mine), free shit/gibmedats (selfishness), and a general lack of understanding (or even an aversion to finding out) where things actually come from, weird fixations on "rights" (without understanding that rights, for all intents and purposes, don't exist - they've all been fought for and earned, often with real bloodshed involved) without any responsibilities (which "rights" go hand-in-hand with). mode OFF Taking all this into account, I naturally saw the connection more to "weak willed/stupid/lazy/fearful" more than "leftist" - a connection Kaczynski himself makes in a roundabout way later in the text. Peruse the footnotes he makes about feminists, for example.
Cooper Baker
Windows is like flying on a plane. You're guaranteed to get anal cavity searched by the government when you use it.
Caleb Ward
>unabomber poster is fucking insane well that's no big surprise
Kayden Stewart
If you think installing or using ubuntu is hard you are a moron.
Jeremiah Lewis
Windows/Car >fast >efficient >safe >works for most domestic workloads Linux/Truck >slow >ugly >loud >stinks >requires special licencing to operate >but if you absolutely, positively have to move 40 tons of shit to the other side of the country, accept no fucking substitute +1
Sebastian Hughes
it's not the installation that's hard, it's figuring out how to get things done that on Windows are easy as fuck. unless you only use your computer as a facebook machine, then yeah
Angel Diaz
Is Windows 10 turning people into iToddlers?
Logan Howard
>requires special licencing to operate You're a fucking moron. I bet when you installed Windows you clicked through the 5,000 word EULA without reading it.
Jaxson Miller
I bet when you bought your car, you signed a whole bunch of papers without reading it.
>driver's license = software license >implying you can do anything with the windows license that you can't do with the GPL >>>/redmond/ >>>/oven/
Christopher Rogers
Like what? no one will fall for your shilling if you don't elaborate. >Windows/Car >>fast >>efficient >>safe you just posted the exact opposite of the truth. That garbage is slow it doesn't even run on my mom's old computer or my old laptop whereas linux runs perfectly.
Leo Lopez
like the setting on kde that says scroll x number of lines when flicking the scroll wheel doesn't do anything on either chromium or firefox gnome doesn't even have any settings related to that on windows it just werkz, and you can even adjust vertical and horizontal scrolling independently
Joshua Diaz
>old computer >old laptop Found your problem. And it's always this problem - for the last time, stop trying to run Windows 10 LTSC x64 on your dumpster-dived bentium !!!s.
Mason Jackson
I have 7Ult and I spit on you and everyone like you
No a non shit operating system runs just fine on it. Don't go around lying about that your slow bloated piece of shit is fast. That's so obscure and irrelevant don't know what you're talking about.
Julian Allen
>blah scream tantrum Give up, kid. You're just not emotionally developed enough for this.
David Clark
you are retarded, kill yourself.
Asher Cruz
>some tantrum throwing kid tells me to KMS Not bloody likely.
You suck at this. Whatever they're paying you, it's too much.
Isaiah Fisher
>the top500 carnard >the goto of the loser, trying to conflate his dumpster-dived shitbox with a supercomputer because they run a similar (not same, they're radically altered by teams of paid programmers for supercomputer operation) OS Into the trash you go.
Ryder Kelly
>setting ftp server >a website server >home network >remote sessions >script tasks >writing a fucking document >installing fucking software all of these are easier on Linux, what are you on about? Don't tell me, your idea of a "non-facebook" machine is a gaming machine? That is getting work done? Oh also there's the Photoshop tards, I bet you are one of those who can't produce multimedia with anything else, then you're either a photographer, musician, or a worthless YouTuber. In the first and last case you can do fine with free software, in music you're better with Mac or RHEL/CentOS, there's paid software for both of them in that case.
Joshua Bennett
I feel sorry for you. I've known some autistic kids, the real world is a hard place for them.
Noah Green
>That's so obscure and irrelevant don't know what you're talking about. irrelevant for a retard like you maybe. that's why loonix fags are annoying. they literally use their computers as facebook machines and then act all surprised when somebody has a requirement that isn't met by their OS you'd say the same if I told you about IDEs or audio/video production or office applications or active directory or fpga/embedded dev or any of the multitude of things windows is better at
Jaxon Ward
>setting ftp server Nobody cares. >a website server Nobody cares. >home network Nobody cares. >remote sessions Nobody cares. >script tasks Nobody cares. >writing a fucking document Use the Office that likely came with your computer. >installing fucking software Next->Next->Finish is hard.
Thats only because you know windows better. Once you get comfortable with linux it is faster and more straightforward than windows.
Ian Moore
>I bet you are one of those who can't produce multimedia with anything else if you spend enough time and energy on something you can do it with a fucking potato, sure. but that's not the point. besides, all the things you listed are ironically easier to do on windows. if you can't set up Apache on windows you're a retard. the only things loonix is better at is privacy, price, HPC, machine learning, research software and some aspects of embedded dev (when you're running linux on the device too). other than that windows is better at everything
Christian Gutierrez
This. This "success/failure by association" that freetards go on with is pathetic. They hate on macfags for wearing their labels on the outside, then hypocritically do the same thing.
Zachary Thompson
>scrolling in a browser is the canonical measure of computing speed
Joshua Cook
>nobody cares about getting work done
Jace Ward
that's a lie. I'm at about the same skill level in both systems. if you want to argue Linux is more straightforward answer how to do
Adam Cook
feel free to elaborate on this magical difference in the OS between supercomputers and PCs.
Jacob Walker
who the fuck said anything about speed? loonix is faster, sure. nobody except poojeets care what OS runs better on a pentium 4
Andrew Collins
>flicking the scroll wheel doesn't do anything on either chromium or firefox >ignore that this obviously a bug >no this is a computing speed thing
not him but it's like arguing an f1 car is better as a daily driver than any regular road car it's not. it might be faster but has none of the amenities that a road car has, and maintenance takes exponential more resources (in this case money and time, in loonix's case just time) than a road car
Ayden Gomez
>spews falsehoods >immediately gets shut down >y-you're autistic/having a tantrum!!! cringe. deflect harder.
From what I've heard, poojeets are up to Core 2 levels now.
Brayden Edwards
But you are having a tantrum, kid. This is an objective fact, obvious to anyone with eyes.
Austin Perry
>backpedalling this hard >"oh wait my bad linux actually is faster after all"
Wyatt Brown
I didn't say it doesn't do anything. I said you can't change the number of lines scrolled with each flick of the wheel.
Lucas Garcia
>oh wait my bad linux actually is faster after all Yes, on a pocket calculator. Since most of us aren't installing operating systems on pocket calculators though, it's a pretty academic point.
Zachary Gomez
>y-you're mad!!! you fucked up. best just delete the thread and try again.
Dominic Kelly
Ah, OK, I stand corrected. It's still obviously a bug though, if it shows UI to configure something, and it has no effect.
Isaac Thomas
I'm not that guy. I admit loonix is slightly faster than windows.
Zachary Long
All supercomputers are running Linux.
Angel Rogers
>backpedalling this hard I literally said I wasn't him you fucking retard.
Mason Richardson
>telling anybody what to do Cringe.
>cool by association Go be a Macfag elsewhere.
Zachary Garcia
>linux is only faster on slow computers >linux is actually faster on the fastest computers in the world as well >you're wrong because...um...you're an itodller or something, despite not using MacOS It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Noah Richardson
Never answer to me again big boi
Sebastian Jenkins
Why don't you go to the arch wiki and look it up? The mouse is highly configurable I've yet to find anything on linux i couldn't tweak to do what I need
Austin Cruz
that can be explained just by licensing costs alone also
Jack Anderson
Dude, don't worry about it. They're freetards, they truly believe only one of us, paid directly from M$s marketing budget. They're defective and insane children that can't handle people having different opinions to whatever RMS said that they're parroting.
What will you do? Caps Lock at me?
Mason Nelson
Linux runs on almost all computers. Windows only has the desktop PC market and some servers.
Dylan Cruz
on windows you just have to search 'mouse' in the start menu and the setting is right there. on linux you have to read the docs for half an hour and maybe find an answer to your issue, or maybe not. linux is clearly inferior in that regard
Connor Sanchez
>linux licensing is shit >no wait actually it's way cheaper and easier lol
Gavin Hall
Not to mention this is one of the few cases where open source actually works (when you have a paid programming staff) - see .
David Cox
>licence See , downie.
Gabriel Lewis
>using an OS that doesn't allow you to inspect how it even works, which hinders you from fixing bugs, comes with a load of spyware that you can't really disable and even costs a lot of money lmao
>hurr durr I din dun mean nuthin what the fuck? You said getting work done, what is that? watching porn? lmao those are less efficient on windows, it's literally like you are using 40% of your hardware on those, your system is gonna restart and update itself even if you don't want it to, and it would be insecure as fuck. Not only that but you lose your home files. Lmao, you are delusional.
